It was COLD in the lowveld last week! One morning the temperature had dropped to 4 degrees ❄️ and if you consider the windchill factor on the back of the game viewer - I think it's safe to say we were freezing 😜. It was so worth it though because we had the most incredible sightings...I will give you more details in the weeks to come but remember that it is always worth it to get up early for a game drive!

| World Turtle Day |

I have many favourites...but maybe turtles are my favourite, favourite! My obsession with these fascinating animals lead me to spending months at a time on a remote paradise along the coast of South Arica studying the ecology of leatherbacks and loggerheads. This ongoing research is vitally important to assist us in our conservation efforts to ensure that these beautiful creatures remain protected.

PS: An adult female leatherback can weigh around 800kg while a hatchling weights about 80g...incredibly it only takes about 15 years for leatherbacks to reach sexual maturity (and that size) on a diet that largely consists of jellyfish! If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is!

The Klein (little) Karoo is a spectacular valley hugged by the Groot-Swart Mountains (north), the Lange Mountains (southwest), and the Outeniqua Mountains (southeast) in the Western Cape. It’s the ‘’fruit basket’’ of the country and excellent wines are produced in this region. The famous Route 62, the longest wine route in the world, connects the charming towns of the little Karoo. There are many gems to be discovered here and to give you a taste I suggest making Oudtshoorn your base. This itinerary is actually based on the very first Soul Safari I hosted!

I have been slowly going through all the video footage of our incredible Namibia tour last year and I am SMITTEN with this beautiful country.

I'm in need of some vitamin sea! Do ypu also get cravings like this? We live so close to the beach but we don't go too often - how ridiculous. But sometimes all your soul needs to reboot is some salt, sand and seaviews! This is one of our favourite little pocket beaches - Kini Bay.

Traveling anywhere in Africa with someone who knows the place like the back of their hand, is an entirely different experience to traveling solo. Trying to navigate public transport clutching a guidebook (or your smart phone that has no signal), isn’t going to get you very far. Wouldn’t you rather go with someone who knows the local lingo, culture and best kept secrets?

| Local is Lekker |

Did you know the King Protea has been South Africa's national flower since 1976? These striking flowers are part of the Proteaceae family - there are about 1500 different species. I love their beautiful, vibrant colours and their intricate design. They are so tough that they can survive wild fires. In fact, fire plays a crucial role in seed germination. It is one of my favourite flowers to have in the garden or in a vase and it even found a spot on my logo!

Well spotted!

Seeing a leopard in the wild is something you will never forget. They are incredibly graceful with their elongated bodies and long tails and their spots or "rosettes" are simply beautiful. The best place to find them is in the Kruger Park area. If you are a keen photographer, I am sure this species is on your list!

The African black oystercatcher is a black bird with pink legs and an orange beak which is found along rocky and sandy shores of Southern Africa. The species is considered as 'near threatened' due to habitat loss as a consequence of increasing development along coastal areas. They are often seen in pairs and make for beautiful photos!
