's summer exhibition has ended, leaving in its wake, memories of dramatic artworks crafted by the skillful hands or various artists.

Rising at the start of the festive season and soaring well into the new year, this exhibition called for pause during a time of busyness.

Within the various genres and mediums on display, I found facets of life, self, and being. A gentle reminder that pause and reflection transition us through each season.

Pinch punch, it's the first of the month ✨️

This is what we'd say back in my school days as we chased each other up and down the courtyards in celebration of the new month.

You were lucky if you managed to escape being pinched or punched, but what remained was that we were inadvertently ushering in a new season.

Today, as we breathe in the first winds of Spring/Summer 23, my wish for you is that love, light and all things pure and beautiful may follow you always.

And, if you feel the need to escape the city for a moment or 2, just know that Mpumalanga awaits with open arms.

Growing Pains

I can't believe how hard I, a proud Lowvelder, am falling for the Highveld.

It's an interesting journey, in that I've never truly allowed myself to look at Mpumalanga's as a working economy, the backbone of South Africa's energy sector.

It's confused me and messed with my content's flow. It's made me rage a little because it's catapulted me out of my comfort zone. But, it's been a necessary pain. A growing pain.

Mpumalanga is a destination that is as rough as it is beautiful, a perfect synergy of Beauty and the Beast.

But what remains undeniable is that a Mpumalanga that works is a South African that works.

A look at Eurowings Discover’s Inaugural flight to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport

Late last year, the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport welcomed Eurowings Discover to its runway, marking a critical point in the province’s post-pandemic tourism recovery.

With up to three weekly direct flights from Frankfurt to Mbombela, Eurowings Discover, the Lufthansa Group’s quality-leisure-carrier, is the first intercontinental airline to ever introduce scheduled air services to the greater Kruger National Park region.

Speaking at the welcoming event, Helmut Woelfel, Chief Commercial Officer at Eurowings Discover said he was both thrilled and proud to start flight operations between Frankfurt and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. “It is a truly unique addition not only to our own leisure portfolio but also to the whole Lufthansa Group network,” he said.

Eurowings Discover has a strong commercial focus on leisure destinations on the African continent. The launch of this route makes Mpumalanga the seventh destination offered by the airline on the African continent after already starting services from Frankfurt to Mombasa, Zanzibar, Mauritius, Windhoek, Victoria Falls and Kilimanjaro.

Through the integration into the Lufthansa network, passengers benefit from the direct connection to all German and European Lufthansa departure points as well as a continuous booking process and seamless transfer traffic. This is also an open invitation for tour operators to really elevate their tourism offering and create travel packages and services that appeal to a global market.

It's undeniable that Mpumalanga is home to some of the most beautiful and dramatic landscapes in South Africa.

The summer rains give way to peak waterfall season, making a hike to any one of Mpumalanga's iconic waterfalls even more spectacular.

Hidden in plain sight, Kaapsehoop's Battery Creek Waterfall remains a firm favourite and always worth a visit.

MPUMALANGA’S PROVINCIAL NATURE RESERVES ANNUAL TARIFFS REVIEW COMES INTO EFFECT IN DECEMBER 2022

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will with effect from 1 December 2022 implement the tariffs for the 2022/2023 financial year at its various nature reserves around the province.

The tariffs will remain largely unchanged in order to cater for the domestic market and to respond to the economic challenges that continue to be faced by the tourism industry due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the tariffs will remain largely unchanged, we have made some adjustments in the following areas:

New pricing will apply on game viewing at Manyeleti Nature Reserve. Patrons using the MTPA OSV will be charged R450.00 per person as opposed to the R350.00 per person that was charged before. Those using their own vehicle (self-drive) will be charged R350.

The tariffs for the conference centre hire at Mahushe Shongwe Nature Reserve will increase from R600.00 to R700.00 per day (terms and conditions will apply)

Boat Launching Entrance to increase from R170.00 to R180.00 per person (this is applicable for our own boat launching at Loskop Dam and Nooitgedacht Dam)

There will be no increase on the pricing of the current accommodation.

The upgraded camping site at Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, which will be introduced during the course of the Financial Year, will have a luxury tent. The market-related rate of R2,500.00 per person per night will be charged;
Entrance fees at Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve will increase to R55 for adults and R30 for children.

Filming rates will increase by 10%.
All the other tariffs for the various nature reserves will remain unchanged.

As part of enhancing the product portfolio, the MTPA will continue to introduce new tourism activities for specific nature reserves. This will go a long way to attract the domestic market as well as providing more choices to enhance visitor experience.

The MTPA is governed by the MTPA Act of 2005, which obliges the Agency to progressively generate its own revenue collection. It is therefore important to note that the income in general will be used for continuous upgrading of infrastructure at our nature reserves and to further provide visitors with the best possible experience and value for money.

We came, we saw and we conquered Makhonjwa!

This past weekend, Bella's Athletics Club hosted the inaugural Makhonjwa Mountain 4 in 1 Marathon.

The grueling race saw runners take off at the Bulembu Border, taking on Makhonjwa's steep inclines and sharp descents, all the way down to the town of Barberton.

Athletes came from as far as Kenya to conquer the 3.6 billion year old World Heritage Site.

Although challenging, this race more than made up for it by offering breathtaking views of the mountain set against a misty backdrop at every turn.
