Watching turtle hatchlings emerge from the sand and making their way to the sea is one of the most magical experiences a family can share in iSimangaliso Wetland Park. A UNESCO World Heritage, iSimangaliso is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, including hippos, leopard and rhinos as well as marine life along its coast.
The park, which protects over 200 kilometres of coastline, is renowned for its turtle nesting beaches, particularly in the summer months when species like the endangered leatherback and loggerhead turtles lay their eggs. The turtles usually lay their eggs around November and December and then the baby turtles hatch in January and February.
Teach your children about conservation, the fragility of marine life, and the importance of protecting incredible ecosystems while connecting with nature on a meaningful level.
