BARRY DID IT!
Joint winners of this year's Mongol Derby: Barry Armitage of South Africa and Ed Fernon of Australia!
Riding in blazing hot conditions it appears that both riders agreed not to race to the finish and crossed the line together. The horses passed their vet checks with ease... a fitting end to 1000km's of gruelling racing? What are your thoughts?
We'll share links to photo's of the finish as soon as they come out of Mongolia, but for now here's some general Mongolian beauty for you...

MONGOL DERBY UPDATE
Lead riders are approaching the finish line and should finish today. Barry is right there. He's been about one stage behind the leaders for the entire race and has now all but closed the gap in these final stages. It may well be a sprint finish yet again!

Rockethorse Racing asked Cape Town musician Joshua K Grierson to put a gritty little ditty together for the race promo after a chance meeting in a coffee shop (of course!). He twanged a bit, added some moody electrical stuff and it was done! Does 10 days riding along an idyllic subtropical coastline sound appealing? Perfect, because we are finally able to announce on our first Wild Coast trail date for 2017 having wrestled the necessary tide tables out of a murky office deep in the bowels of the South African Navy! If you’re imagining yourself on a plucky mount belting down yet another endless stretch of beach, punctuated by a challenging river swim across a pristine Indian Ocean lagoon and a jaunt into the lush coastal forest beyond, then join us from the 4th to the 15th of May next year.

We have shortened the riding days to 10 making for some long days in the saddle and we have banished rest days. This no doubt makes the trail a little tougher but definitely a little more compelling and allows us to visit only our favourite overnight stops.
