No person was injured. The once wonderful, rustic relaxing camp, is now a sad picture. It is very devestating! Gary and Fred Scherf, Godfrey and Ruth came up to the camp on Thursday (19th), and another Group of 5 people came up on Friday (20th) to try retrieve, wash and sort equipment. Steven Davies and his Dad, Clive, came up on Monday (23rd) to assist and bring additional food. Access to the cam
p is very difficult as the main low water bridge in the reserve has washed away. A seriously damaged road to the Klaserie western gate is the only way to the camp, but a 4x4 is needed. We have had to wade through the river to access the Southern area of the reserve. The mood of the team is mostly very positive. Every now and again the destruction around one gets you. Gary is a star as always, and has been working hard to clear the area. The flood was apparently due to many dams breaking after the very heavy rainfall experienced over the 17/18th of January. The Klaserie area recieved more than 450ml of rain over an 18 hour period and resulted in the river rising above the roof of the camp's kitchen, completely submerging the camp's raised platform. We have put up a large Army tent as a temporary storage facility to hold the items we have been able to recover and are waiting for the insurance assessors to visit the camp site. Thank you to all the people who care so much about Gary. Thank you so much for your messages of support and concern. It is apprecaited more that you realise. We do apologise for not getting back to all of you but communication has not been easy from Klaserie over this period. We will continue to read your comments, reply and keep you up to date
