HAVE YOU BEEN TO NOSY BE, MADAGASCAR?

Nosy Be is an island off the north-west coast of Madagascar and is Madagascar’s largest tourist hub. Nosy Be is easily accessible from all parts of the world.

Nosy Komba is a big island not too far a boat ride from Nosy Be, maybe about 20 minutes from the main beach. The views and the lagoon are amazing! The island is best known for the animals: specifically lemurs, Aldabra turtles and chameleons.

ZANZIBAR (TANZANIA) 🌊🌴

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.

Zanzibar’s main industries are spices, raffia, and tourism. In particular, the islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. For this reason, the islands, together with Tanzania’s Mafia Island, are sometimes called the Spice Islands (a term also associated with the Maluku Islands in Indonesia). Zanzibar is the home of the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, the Zanzibar servaline genet, and the (possibly extinct) Zanzibar leopard.

TOLIARA (MADAGASCAR)

The Southwestern coast of Madagascar supports the third largest coral reef system in the world. Known as the Toliara reef system near the largest city in the Southwest, it extends from the North of the Mangoky river (Belo sur Mer) southwards to the village of Androka, a distance of more than 300 km. The wide variety of marine habitats includes barrier and fringing reefs, shallow lagoons and abyssal slopes that fall to a depth of more than a kilometre. These different environments are home to more than 6,000 recorded species.

Apart from the plethora of reef- and lagoon-dwelling fish and invertebrates, the region attracts sea turtles from all over the Western Indian Ocean. It is also one of the very few places on Earth where the fabled coelacanth, a prehistoric fish close to the ancestors of terrestrial vertebrates, still finds refuge among the caves far below the ocean’s surface.

QUIRIMBA ARCHIPELAGO🌊🌴

The Quirimbas stretches for 110 kilometres (68 mi) along the northeast coast of Mozambique and contains the southernmost 11 of the Quirimbas islands. The park has a tropical climate with a rainy season from December to April and a drier but cooler season from May to September.
The region was isolated for decades during the Mozambican Civil War. On land, there are sparse populations of elephants, lions, leopards, crocodiles and even wild dog. Habitats include mountains, forests, woodland, savannah, mangroves, beaches, coral reefs and seagrass beds. The park contains a rich variety of marine life including sea turtles, dolphins and many species of fish. Three hundred and seventy-five species of fish have been identified, including threatened pipefish and seahorses.

DESTINATIONS WITH Blue Water Expeditions 🌴

Nosy Be (also Nossi-bé and Nosse Be) is an island off the north-west coast of Madagascar and is Madagascar’s largest tourist hub. Nosy Be is easily accessible from all parts of the world.

Nosy Komba is a big island not too far a boat ride from Nosy Be, maybe about 20 minutes from the main beach. It’s very lush and pretty island. The beaches are not spectacular but the view and the lagoon are very nice. However, you go to Nosy Komba for animals: specifically lemurs, Aldabra turtles and chameleons.

Nosy Tanikely is a national marine park in Madagascar and is a great place to snorkel, dive, swim or just chill out after visiting Nosy Komba. The day trips from Nosy Be always include both Komba and Tanikely on the same trip, they are only 15 minutes by boat from each other but offer vastly different experiences.

MAFIA ISLAND (TANZANIA)🌴⛵

Blue Water Expeditions offers expeditions to Mafia Island in Tanzania. Mafia is a beach and ocean wonderland. In many ways you are stepping back in time to a place unspoilt by tourism.There is excellent snorkeling and diving within the Bay, especially at the outer islets near Kinasi Pass – the entrance to Chole Bay.
It is a short boat ride to reach the coral gardens. All snorkeling and diving activities inside Chole Bay are tide-dependent to avoid strong currents to obtain the best visibility.
Mafia island is one of those rare places that you have the privilege of swimming with the whale sharks. As many as 15 can be seen in an area of only a few square miles off the main town of Kilindoni.

Pemba is a port city in Mozambique. It is the capital of the province of Cabo Delgado and lies on a peninsula in Pemba Bay.
Pemba is renowned for being a prime destination for water sport and diving enthusiasts as a coral reef lies close to the shore. Pemba has increasingly become a tourist destination, particularly for upper-middle class Mozambicans and South Africans. There is now a weekly flight from Johannesburg to Pemba, a hotel, the Pemba Beach Hotel, restaurants, and other forms of entertainment. Pemba is the closest major city and airport for those who wish to visit the Quirimbas Islands and Quirimbas National Park.
