North Korea will open to tourism from December this year.
Chinese tour operators, KTG Tours and Koryo Tours, who specialise in tours to North Korea, confirmed that the country would open the city of Samjiyon to tourists in December 2024.
“So far, just Samjiyon has been officially confirmed, but we think that Pyongyang and other places will open too,” KTG Tours said on a social media post.
Koryo Tours shared this optimism, saying it hoped the rest of the country would be open to tourism by December as well.
The opening of the borders comes after four years, when the country was closed to tourists in January 2020 to limit the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to bbc.com, North Korea has only allowed Russian visitors to enter the country since the closure, as the two nations forge closer ties.
According to Koryo Tours, North Korea has been working for years on the tourism development of Samjiyon, which is the most significant and sacred place in the whole Korean Peninsula, and is said to be the birthplace of Kim Jong II, the father of the present ruler Kim Jong Un

In an ever-changing world it is necessary to know the ins and outs of what is happening in travel today. The UK visa process which used to take 15 working days to process, now takes up to 40 working days to be processed. Schengen visas are quite on time within 15 working days, some even quicker, however, getting an appointment is a problem! Some countries have no availability till next year March. The same is true for the US. At present the explosion in the travel industry has created chaos at visa centres and embassies that are, either understaffed or don't have the capacity to deal with the influx of applications. SO the best thing to do is to plan your travel way in advance! Don't book and pay for anything until you have a visa appointment and know how long it will be to get the visa! Bon voyage!!

UKVI is under great strain at the moment and instead of processing visas in 3 weeks, the time is now closer to 7 weeks. This has placed a strain on holiday makers and other visa applicants as their holiday plans have to postponed or cancelled. This comes at a time when travelers have had to contend with two years of little or no travel!

Portugal became the latest European nation to rescind all entry requirements for international arrivals related to COVID-19.

Visiting mainland Portugal, Madeira and Porto Santo is now the same as during pre-pandemic times, for all tourists.

So far, the southern European country has administered 24,6 million vaccine doses, with 86,2% of eligible people in the region now fully vaccinated.

The Australian Government has announced that travellers will no longer have to complete the Digital Passenger Declaration giving their COVID-19 vaccination status. This follows changes to the Biosecurity Act which comes into force from midnight on Wednesday, July 6.

The changes mean that all visa holders can travel to Australia without needing a travel exemption and that vaccination status is no longer a criterion determining entry to the country.

When travelling around Australia, visitors should be aware that there are also state-specific regulations concerning mask-wearing and vaccination requirements for specific industries/situations.

Most state-level governments continue to require facemasks on public transport and in high-risk settings, such as medical facilities.

Why are visa applications denied?
There are many reasons why Visa applications fail. Most applications fail due to bank statements that do not reflect a regular income, which means that most countries may feel that you will be coming to their shores to look for work and then stay in their country illegally. It is therefore important to show that you do get money into the account on a regular basis and that there are sufficient funds to travel. The embassies consider whether you have pre-booked accommodation, flights and excursions. On average one should have at least R1000.00 per day if you have pre-booked all these. Also bank statements should be dated within a couple of days from the day that application is submitted.

Meanwhile back in the good old RS of A, we peaked a while ago and yet we are still stuck with restrictions.
