White water rafting down the Umzimkhulu River will certainly get your blood pumping and will make for a fun afternoon, filled with adventure. Starting at the Oribi Hotel you will be given a briefing on safety rules and regulations while participating.

Get your life jackets on and hit the water where you will brave rapids of different grades depending on the conditions at the time. Experienced guides will accompany you on your trip.

After getting your oars wet, you will stop for a quick refreshment along the way. You are estimated to be in the water for roughly four to six hours in total after which you will be taken back to the hotel where you can grab some lunch and reminisce the afternoon’s excitement. Sea-Spray consists of 6 quality self-catering units located in the Margate area that can sleep from 2 to 10 people.
All the units are self-catering and are very comfortable and fully equipped, including free Wi-Fi, a DSTV connection (Just bring your own decoder), private braai facilities, swimming pool, and adequate security.

With it being the ‘silly season’, we still need to practice beach safety. Especially now when the beaches are packed with holiday makers all hoping to make the best of their summer vacation.
The NSRI has compiled a list of beach safety tips to follow.
BEACH SAFETY TIPS
Swim at beaches where and when lifeguards are on duty
Listen to the lifeguards’ advice and talk to them about safety on the beach that you are visiting. If lifeguards are not on duty, do not swim.
Swim between the lifeguard flags
If you swim between the lifeguard flags, the lifeguards will be watching you very carefully and can help if there is a problem. Just wave your arm if you need help.
Don’t drink alcohol and then swim
Being physically impaired in water is very dangerous, as you’ll be more inclined to take risks you normally wouldn’t; you could pass out or injure yourself and drown.
Don’t swim alone. Always swim with a buddy
If you are with a buddy while swimming, there is someone who can call for help if you need it and are unable to wave to the lifeguards or call for help yourself.
Avoid attempting a rescue yourself
If you see someone in difficulty, call a lifeguard at once or dial the nearest NSRI station. If there is a Pink Rescue Buoy in close proximity, this can be used as flotation until help arrives. If you do ever attempt a bystander rescue, do so only if you can swim AND are able to take flotation with you. Tell someone on the beach to call 112 before you go in.
Beware of inflatable tubes, boats and toys
Lightweight inflatables should not be used at the beach or on dams where currents and wind can blow them – and the person on them – offshore. They are extremely dangerous, and should only be used where intended i.e. a swimming pool, and only under adult supervision.
Do not be distracted by your cellphone or social media
While you are looking after children in or near water, you need to focus on them and nothing else. Adults who are supervising children should not be distracted or use their cellphone. It is not possible to concentrate on children in the water and be on your phone at the same time. Remember – drowning is silent.
Adult supervision and barriers to water are vital
Adults who are supervising children in or near water must be able to swim. Children should not be able to get through or over barriers such as pool fences to water. Only use child-safe pool fences and child-safe pool covers or nets.

We love a good pet friendly holiday home, and Seagulls Beach House is just that. A stylish, pet friendly, 4-bedroom, self-catering holiday home in Southport that sleeps up to 9 guests. This beautiful home has direct beach access to the local blue flag beach and has a lovely swimming pool on the deck.

The home is well equipped with all the modern appliances needed for a self-catering holiday and the property is serviced Mondays to Fridays. The open-plan living area opens onto an undercover veranda which boasts its own lounge area and built-in braai and overlooks the deck with a natural saltwater swimming pool (with safety net if required).

This breathtaking beach house is situated right on the beach and has a 180-degree, uninterrupted view of the ocean.

Galene Beach House sleeps 14 and has 7 bedrooms seven bathrooms, two lounges (TV lounge has small flat screen TV with Open View (no DSTV). An open plan dining area as well as a covered veranda from which you can enjoy magnificent sea views and the sound of the ocean.

There is a dip swimming pool on the deck with optional pool net if there are small children around. The house is serviced daily excepting Sundays and public holidays. There is an external alarm system for your security which you will need to arm when you retire.

Bath towels are provided but please bring your own beach towels. Two lamps are also provided for loadshedding.
