Hluhluwe Game Reserve Hluhluwe Game Reserve is the oldest game park in Africa and the second oldest in the world to the Yellow Stone of America.

From Durban up the N2

take the Imfolozi game reserve turnoff (R618) 3km north of the Mtubatuba turnoff. From the north take Nongoma Mtubatuba turnoff (R619) follow the (R618) for about 25km this road has lots of speed humps and once you go over the cattle grid you are in the park and approximately 2km you will see the signpost to Nyalazi gate (turn left)
To Memorial gate it is a lot simpler, coming from the north or south along the N2 look out for the Hluhluwe turn off then follow the signposts to the gate it is about 5km to the gate from the N2

1hr 30min from St Lucia and Richards Bay
Nyalazi gate
If one is coming from Johannesburg or Swaziland it is better to enter through the Memorial gate.
3hrs from Durban and less 30 minutes from King Shaka airport.

Due to the presence of dangerous animals, visitors may only leave their vehicles at designated spots. Credit cards and debit cards are accepted. Speed limit is 40km/h
No pets are allowed
Most of the time there is fuel available at Hill Top and Mpila.
15 amp plug point are available in your accommodation (Mpila runs of a generator from 07:00- 22:00)
There is a restaurant, normal restaurant Hrs at Hill Top (Hluhluwe side of the park) and a take aways 08:00 - 16:00 at Centenary Center situated near Nyalazi gate (Imfolozi side of the park)

The annual Heritage Day Sea Rescue FunRun will be on Saturday 24 September, 2022.
The event will be in St Lucia at the Sea Rescue station 40 base on Pelikaan Street.
This event is NOT a race and is open to all shapes amd sizes.
We encourage walkers, runners and cyclists to participate, there's a distance for everyone.
Dogs and prams are welcome.
Since it is Heritage Day weekend we do encourage 'dressing for the occasion', wear something to represent your Heritage!
There are 4 distances to choose from 3km, 6km, 10km and 20km distance events to suit all levels of activity. The routes are all on the road and wind in and around the lovely Coastal town of St Lucia.

Registration is from 6am to 6:45am.
Event starts at 7am
NO ENTRANCE FEE
* donations of coffee, milk, tea, hot chocolate, rusks, biscuits and cleaning supplies are very much appreciated.
Sea Rescue is a volunteer based organisation, all members are volunteers and all operational costs are donated.
If you would like to donate to the organisation you can bring us some goodies or donate on our zapper / snapscan QR code.
After the fun run, the station will be open for tours and volunteers will be hosting an Open Day for all who are interested in volunteering with Station 40.
The St Lucia market fair will be located next to station 40 and there will be many stalls with goodies to purchase.
So grab your family, dog and friends and join us on Saturday Sept 24 for a fun time.

Today's highlight had to be the two wild dog sightings only 1km apart. The first was below masinda and the other was at umbondwe. Luckily the two packs never meet. Then there was a cheetah seen early morning at 17. The bull elephants were the only elephants seen the buffalo were also hard to find. There were vultures and hyena at the giraffe kill. No reports came out of Hluhluwe

It was a slow start, possibly because it was the coldest morning of the year. There were plenty elephants again around bhejane hide. The lions came out at the bridge later in the morning. Mating elephants was a rare sighting (see video). Rhino, buffalo and general game weren't plentiful. Late afternoon lion were seen at 17i. Up in Hluhluwe plenty elephants at mansiya loop. General game was good up there.

After the weather of yesterday today was amazing. Even the birds were having a swim(see video) There was lots to see, up in Hluhluwe there was plenty elephants seen from the main road to seme. The lions were also seen in this area. The bull elephants were scattered. Buffalo and general game were good at setezi. In iMfolozi elephants herds were at nyalazi gate, bhejane hide and at 27i. The lions were seen at the bridge early morning and at the pans btwn 12/28 this afternoon. Wild dogs seen early btwn 12/13i. General game not plentiful. There were black rhino also seen. Herd of buffalo spent the day at 28i.

The big five two days in a row "unheard of" but it is true the big5 were seen again today in iMfolozi. Lion and leopard were at 27i late morning. The elephants were again at ensolweni turn off and bhejane hide. The wild dogs spent the day lazing on the river bed on sontuli loop. Only dagga boys were reported. General game were hard to find. One rhino was so close you an hear it eating. No reports out of Hluhluwe.

Up in Hluhluwe the place to be is definitely at sitezi, with lions, buffalo and elephants seen. In iMfolozi the wild dogs were seen early morning at centenary center. The lions were seen at 27i, main bridge, at the pans btwn 12/28i and btwn 17/18. The elephants were at bhejane hide. Herds of buffalo at 17i and at 12i. General game was good today.

Only elephants reported in iMfolozi today and up in Hluhluwe there was a leopard seen at 7h.
