Their can-do attitude is always appreciated as well as their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure all locations are properly managed and used to their full potential. Their desire to come on board a project as early as possible, just to make sure they can get a head-start on their work and build a strong foundation is also always appreciated and we look forward to working with ULL in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Unit and location logistics are critical components of any film or television production. These departments are responsible for managing the movement of cast, crew, and equipment to and from various locations, ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. In South Africa, the film and television industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, and unit and location logistics have become increasingly important.

Unit Management:

Unit management is responsible for coordinating the logistics of a production. This includes managing transport, accommodation, and catering for cast and crew. They also ensure that all equipment and supplies are delivered to set on time and in good condition.

In South Africa, unit management is particularly important due to the country's vast and diverse geography. Productions may film in remote locations, such as nature reserves or game parks, where access to resources and facilities may be limited. Unit managers must be skilled at working within these constraints and finding creative solutions to ensure that the production can run smoothly.

Locations:

Location scouting is a crucial part of the pre-production process. Locations scouts search for suitable locations that match the script's requirements, working closely with the director and production designer to find the perfect settings for each scene.

In South Africa, there is a wide range of locations available, from the rugged landscapes of the Karoo to the beaches of Cape Town. The country's varied climate and geography make it an ideal location for a range of productions, from wildlife documentaries to period dramas.

However, filming on location can also present logistical challenges, particularly in more remote areas. Location managers must work closely with unit managers to ensure that all equipment and supplies can be transported to set, and that cast and crew have access to suitable accommodation and facilities.

In recent years, the South African government has introduced incentives to encourage foreign productions to film in the country. These include a film rebate scheme, which provides financial incentives for productions that spend a certain amount in South Africa. These incentives have helped to boost the local industry and attract more international productions to the country.

In conclusion, unit and location logistics are critical components of the South African television and film industry. Unit managers are responsible for coordinating the logistics of a production, while location managers work to find the perfect settings for each scene. With the country's diverse geography and range of locations, South Africa is an ideal destination for film and television productions. However, filming on location can present logistical challenges, particularly in more remote areas. Nevertheless, the industry is thriving, and with the support of skilled unit and location managers, productions can continue to flourish in this beautiful and diverse country.
