HJ Oil and Food Consulting (Pty) Ltd which is owned by Johan Swart and Hennie du Plessis, commenced operations in 2003. Johan is a qualified mechanical engineer with 20 years’ experience in the edible oil industry whilst his partner Hennie has established himself as a sought after consultant on the process side of edible oil, with experience built up over 25 years. Combined they have more than 40
years’ experience in the production of edible oil and related products. They specialise in efficiency studies, project management and turnkey projects for both the edible oil and food industry. Although based in South Africa, the company designs, manufactures and installs processing plants throughout Africa. Countries where the company is engaged in turnkey projects include Botswana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The company has been consistent in demonstrating extensive knowledge of all facets of plant operation. This includes seed receiving and storage; preparation plant; crushing of seed; solvent extraction; refining of edible oil; hydrogenation; mayonnaise and salad oil; packaging of edible oil; margarine and baking fat manufacturing; peanut butter manufacturing and various sauces such as tomato, barbeque, basting; dog food manufacturing; bio diesel refining; boilers, compressors and refrigeration units and; effluent water treatment plants. Projects successfully concluded are the project management on a 750 ton per day soybean extraction plant in Mokopane South Africa and variously:
200 ton per day (TPD) castor oil plant;
200 TPD copra crushing plant;
150 TPD copra crushing plant;
2000 ton oil storage tanks;
500 TPD soybean extraction plant;
2000 TPD soya and sunflower oil plant; and
100 and 50 TPD bio diesel plants. Current Assignments:
Project management of a turnkey US$82 million project to develop a 11000 hectare coconut palm plantation, construction and civil works of the industrial site, supply and installation of a complete 200 TPD copra drying and processing plant with solvent extraction and refinery. The supply and installation of a 200 TPD palm fruit processing and fractionation plant; a 70 TPD refinery in Botswana; a 750 TPD soya bean plant for Horama Oil and; a 750 TPD soya plant for SA Foods, South Africa.
