Leopards are very solitary and spend most of their time alone. They each have their own territory, and leave scratches on trees, urine scent marks and p**p to warn other leopards to stay away! Males and females will cross territories, but only to mate.

Herbivores, giraffes only eat plants. Their favourite grub is the acacia tree, and they use their long necks to reach the leaves and buds in the treetops. Their long tongues (which grow to a whopping 53cm!) also help them pull down leaves growing way up high.

Did you know that baby elephants do the same thing with their trunks? These tiny giants don’t just do this to soothe themselves, though. It also helps them strengthen their trunk muscles and gain better control over the appendage.

The Nile monitor (Varanus niloticus) is a hefty reptile, also known as the water monitor, and Africa’s longest lizard, sometimes reaching lengths of over 2 metres – of which more than half is tail.

Seldom wandering far from water, it is a common sight across much of the region, usually seen rummaging around the riverine undergrowth, basking on a rock or swimming through the shallows.

Can spot them? 🦁
Lions are believed to climb trees as a behavioral adaptation to protecting themselves from the constant irritation of insect bites while lazing on the ground under trees. Some animal behaviorists claim that these lions have perfected the art of climbing trees as a way of escaping the sweltering heat on ground level.

🦒 Did you know that giraffes have a unique way of drinking water? 🌊🦒

Unlike most animals, giraffes have to spread their front legs wide apart and bend their long necks down to reach the water source. This is because their necks are too long to simply lower their heads like other animals. It’s truly fascinating to witness!

Giraffes have an incredible ability to drink large amounts of water in a short period of time. They can consume up to 12 gallons (45 liters) of water in just a few minutes! This is essential for their survival, especially during the dry season when water sources may be scarce.
