In 2021 we lost a friend and mentor, a festival brother in arms. To the SA music community, Henry was all this and more. For over a decade, he captured moments of pure in-the-present passion in his own larger-than-life way. He created icons of anyone fortunate enough to be in front of his all-seeing lens – our gentle giant in the pit.

Henry may have been taken away from us too soon, but the memories he created are lasting. To that end, we’ve collected his extensive catalogue into a memorial book, which we're pleased to announce is now ready for pre-order via www.giantinthepit.com

This project is our tribute. The proceeds will be utilised to purchase digital and analogue cameras for donation to institutions that teach photography in disadvantaged communities. This is the book 'Big H' always dreamt about, contributed to – and completed by – the people who are forever indebted to him. Rest in peace, dear Henry.

Cannot believe this is true, we have lost one of the greatest people and photographers in the SA music industry.

Always at every event no matter how famous or not a band was, always about the show and the bands he was taking pictures of, never in it for self gain or promotion.

I will miss all the backstage talk, the hours of laughs in the pit barricade as you fought the fans to get the shot.

Your pictures and eye for the industry will be missed.

But most importantly YOU will be missed.

RIP @ Henry.. until the big show...

We are saddend to hear of the passing of LG Petrov, we did two tours with him and he was a truly awesome person.

His music and contribution to metal cannot be measured, the influences he and Entombed had are part of almost every metal band since.

All of us here in South Africa and the rest of the world who saw and met you, will never forget you.

You will be missed and never forgotten the true Chief Rebel Angel \M/
