I knew I wouldnโ€™t be home for the elections so I registered to vote in London and today I made my mark ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

Very happy I chose today rather than yesterday as there were no queues when I got there and the whole process took about 5 minutes!!

My favourite thing to do is collect stamps in my passport! Pity that a lot of countries arenโ€™t stamping on entry/exit anymore due to everything being electronic but just means that you donโ€™t have to replace your passport that often anymore ๐Ÿ˜œ

Iโ€™m currently on my 4th passport since I started travelling in 2000! I think itโ€™s time to collect more stampsโ€ฆ.

How many passports have you filled before they have expired? Would love to know!

Today wasnโ€™t an overly exciting day as it was raining so couldnโ€™t do too much outdoors, was hoping just to wander the streets of Christchurchโ€ฆ.

Caught the bus into town and stopped at Quake City - this recounts the 2010-2011 earthquakes that hit the city, destroying most of it. Itโ€™s was very interesting and also sad at the same timeโ€ฆ.

Next I jumped on the city tour hop on hop off tram . It was a quick ride around the city on an old tram with live commentary. City Centre has practically been rebuilt and all the new buildings can withstand and earthquake up to 8.5 magnitude! There are still a lot of empty gravel spaces where buildings used to be which are now being used as car parks so will should never have a problem finding parking here! Some building are yet to be torn down so all boarded up and derelict.

I am definitely not a city girl so I think that, after all the amazing smaller towns I have visited on this trip, the city didnโ€™t wow me - weather played a big part in that too as I didnโ€™t get to visit any of the parks or take a walk along the riverโ€ฆ.. Thereโ€™s always a next time!

What a gorgeous day today!!! Got a coffee and had a nice little walk around the lake front area before hitting the road ๐Ÿš

First stop was Three Creeks on Burkes Pass - such a cute little place! I will let the photos show you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next stop was Fairlie - a girl I had met in Wanaka recommended the Fairlie Bakery, which is famous for their pies and pastries. Of course, when I saw Pork Belly and Apple sauce pie, I knew what I was ordering ๐Ÿ˜œ simply delicious! They even had a piece of crackling on the top!!!

There wasnโ€™t anything else exciting to see after thisโ€ฆ.

Wanted to stop at Lake Ellesmere on the way but, when I got to where my maps were taking me, I realised I was on the wrong side of the lake ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคฃ

Then headed through to Tekapo. Saw the Church of the Good Shepherd and then walked through the little town. Found a lovely restaurant overlooking the lake and stopped in for a beer ๐Ÿบ

Went to Tekapo springs in the evening for what was supposed to be stargazing while floating in the hot pools. Unfortunately it was still raining and cloudy so we did a VR presentation - how have I never tried this before! We all looked like minions though! After that we went for a swim in the hot pools and our guide spoke more about what we should be seeing. There was a clearing and a few stars made an appearance but it wasnโ€™t nearly what I was hoping to see in a Dark Sky Reserve โญ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ซ

Enjoyed a late lie-in in my very comfy hotel bed and didnโ€™t feel the least bit guilty ๐Ÿ˜œ

After check out I took a walk around the village - quite a few accommodation options to choose from but I would think that you would need to book well in advance as I was lucky to get the last room at the hotel for the night, everything thing else was sold out!

Weather was iffy and raining on and off. Wanted to do the Ho**er Valley walk but that was 2-3 hours and didnโ€™t feel like getting caught in the rain half way through so opted for the Tasman Glacier walk - probably wouldโ€™ve opted for the rain if I knew I had to climb 333 steps to get to the top ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Can imagine how stunning the views must be on a clear day here. There were even icebergs floating in the lake that had come off the glacier.

Stops along the way today were:
* ๐™‡๐™–๐™ ๐™š ๐™ƒ๐™–๐™ฎ๐™š๐™จ - Lake Hayes is a beautiful lake located between Queenstown and Arrowtown and known for its perfect reflections. Wind was howling so I took a drive around Lake Wakitipu round to Glenorchy. There is a nice little walk through the lagoon.

The nice thing about the drives here is that they are just as much of an adventure as the final destination with so many places to stop along the way.
After my little roadie I had a walk round Queenstown - love this little town. It has so much to offer for everyone - it really is the adventure capital but there is also a lot to do in town. There is a casino, shopping, ice bars, lots of restaurants and bar, river cruises and the list goes on

I stayed a tonight - this is one camp site I have been looking forward to and it didnโ€™t disappoint! Itโ€™s located in Frankton, just a bit out of town Centre but it right on the lake and, because itโ€™s new, it had the best facilities - highly recommended ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Todays route took me over the Crown Range pass - another very twisty road but with beautiful views over the valley from the top.

As the sun was out, I decided to take advantage and stop in Arrowtown as rain is predicted for the rest of the week. This is another old gold mining town with a lot of history and walks.

Arrived in Queesntown and checked into the campsite for the night and took a walk into town as it wasnโ€™t far.

I walked pass the famous Fergburger and there wasnโ€™t a long queue at all so took this as a sign to get a burger for dinner ๐Ÿ˜œ (you can sometimes wait up to an hour in peak times)
It was really that good!!!

Made my way back to the camp for an early night as itโ€™s an early start in the morningโ€ฆ..

Woke up to another gorgeous day with blue skies. Packed up my van and headed to Queenstown. The picturesque Cardrona hotel is 20 minutes outside of Wanaka - this is one of NZโ€™s old seat and most iconic hotels. Just before this is โ€˜Bradronaโ€™ - The Cardrona Bra Fence is a controversial tourist attraction in Central Otago, in New Zealand. At some point between 1998 and 1999, passers-by began to attach bras to a rural fence. The fence gradually became a well known site as the number of bras grew to hundreds. I didnโ€™t leave a bra there but I did make a donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation for our amazing warrior, Michelle, and everyone else that has been affected โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

๐™’๐™–๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ ๐™–

Good call on coming through to Wฤnaka yesterday! Was a gorgeous day here (15ยฐC but at least the sun was shining!)

Started the morning with a 5km walk around the lake and visited the famous tree ๐Ÿ˜œ I was warned about all the tourists that would be there (including me) and boy were they right!! Tripods, long lense cameras, walking through the water to be next to the tree, you name it, I saw it all this morning ๐Ÿคฃ

Then I decided to hire a bike and ride to Clutha River - there was a track and it was all pavedโ€ฆ in town only! I am not mountain biking fit ๐Ÿ™ˆ if it was a level track that wouldโ€™ve been ok but it was up and down and my legs felt broken ๐Ÿคฃ Did a 20km round trip as I needed to be back before the bike hire place closed. WOW! What a gorgeous river ๐Ÿ˜ crystal blue waters again so, when I just couldnโ€™t pedal up the hill and someone was coming towards me, I just pretended that I was staring at the scenery and then pushed my bike once they were gone ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

There is a Lavender farm just outside town and, I know that the one I was hoping to visit in Taupo closed last weekend, I thought I would head out there. Unfortunately no lush purple fields, like I was hoping for but still a cool little farm with some Alpacas ๐Ÿฆ™ I can imagine that it must be gorgeous when the lavender is in season as itโ€™s quite a big farm.

Next was Lake Mahinapau. Did a nice 2km round trip walk to โ€˜swimming beachโ€™, which was not what I expected! The walk there was nice through the forest.

Next lake on the way was Lake Ianthe/Matahi and the last one for the day was Lake Wahapo

Been craving meat and salad but my fridge isnโ€™t big enough to go out and buy everything so stopped in at The Landing Bar (by suggestion from the lady at the camp). When the restaurant serves popcorn on arrival then I know I have found a winner ๐Ÿ˜œ
I decided on some ribs and salad ๐Ÿฅ—
There is enough here to feed me for the next 3 days!!! Salad was meh ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Today was all about water! Waterfalls, lakes rivers and gorges. Most of these were along the route so I I decided to stop and check them out.

First stop of the day was Lake Kaniere - so serene and, if you zoom in on the picture below, you will see the dusting of snow on the mountains behind

Just off Lake Kaniere road was Dorothy Falls. A small waterfall cascading from the mountains.

Next stop is one that I have been looking forward to - Hokitika Gorge! It did not disappoint! I thought I had time it right by getting there at midday but the sun doesnโ€™t operate the same way here as it does in SA and it was already starting its descent so there were lots of shadows over the gorge. You still get the picture of how gorgeously blue this water it, same as Huka Falls in Taupo.

Then it was off to get some much needed petrol in Greymouth. While there, I stopped in at the information center to see if there was anything worth seeing as I was initially only going to drive through. The lovely Helen suggested Shantytown and, because I have been doing a lot of walking, she also suggested that I need to stay hydrated and recommended Monteithโ€™s brewery ๐Ÿบ unfortunately their tour was only at 4pm so I settled for a tasting tray (only had 3 so was still under the limit to drive) and some chilli & garlic prawns ๐Ÿค (made a change from the ham & cheese rolls Iโ€™ve been eating ๐Ÿคฃ)

Shantytown was a cute replica of the old gold mining & saw-milling towns that used to be in this area. I arrived just in time to jump on the train for a trip up the hill to see where they used to chop all the trees, then down to the saw mill, on to the gold panning area - you can pay an extra $8 to pan for gold and get to keep it but, when I saw that you only get small flecks, I decided it wasnโ€™t worth it ๐Ÿคฃ

Got to Hokitika in time for the (cloudless) sunset and checked into the holiday park for the night ๐Ÿš

Next stop was Pelorus bridge - just did a short walk down to the river. The water was freezing so def no swimming for me but can imagine that itโ€™s a great place to cool off in the summer

Last stop before arriving in Nelson was Cable Bay - the view from here was just gorgeous ๐Ÿ˜

Stop #3 - The Mussel Pot, Havelock

Havelock is the capital of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel so I had to stop at the famous Mussel Pot for lunch and it didnโ€™t disappoint! I opted for the Thai Green curry flavour and it was delicious! Paired with a glass of Four Hawks Above Sav Blanc (really good wine)

Itโ€™s a good idea to call ahead and make a booking as it can get really busy here and, trust me, you donโ€™t want to miss this stop!!

Stop #2 - Cullen Point Track

Havelock is only 30 minutes away from Blenheim so nice quick trip and then did the Cullen Point Track walk. Stunning views of the sounds and Havelock across the bay. Started off well as it was all downhill but that just meant I had to get back up again ๐Ÿ™ˆ At least I worked off my lunch before I ate it ๐Ÿ˜œ

Also very grateful that I decided to invest in some proper walking shoes otherwise Iโ€™m sure I wouldโ€™ve done a lot of sliding along this track!

Left Blenheim today and headed for Nelson. On the way, I decided to stop in at Hunters wine for a quick tasting. After all, I couldnโ€™t leave the Marlborough area without doing a wine tasting, even if it was at 10am ๐Ÿ˜œ enjoyed all the wines I tasted and even bought a couple of bottles for the trip!

Hunterโ€™s Wines is one of Marlboroughโ€™s most highly acclaimed wineries at national and international wine competitions and theyโ€™re still breaking new ground with new varietals, new wine-making techniques and consistently seeking the best for their wines.

The Native Garden at Hunterโ€™s began 20 years ago and now has thousands of native plants, which attract a huge number of native birds and has helped regenerate the area back to its natural habitat

Early start this morning to get the ferry from Wellington to Picton. Was supposed to be at the port at 7:15 but slept through my alarms ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ Big thank you to Michelle for getting me up in time ๐Ÿ’š
Mad rush to get there and arrived at 7:30 - thankfully they still let me on as they hadnโ€™t started letting the cars on yet (campers and trucks get loaded first). Ferry left at 8:15 and it was a 3 hour journey. Itโ€™s started off wet and miserable but the rain stopped by the time we entered the Marlborough sounds. Wow ๐Ÿคฉ even with the low clouds, itโ€™s was still a magnificent sight. Small houses tucked away in some of the coves (looks like you can only get there by boat).

All the vehicles are parked on the lower levels of the ferry and you have to go upstairs to the lounge area for the journey. They have a restaurant on board and coffee station (all at an extra charge). You are allowed to walk around to certain areas and there are also cabins that you can book for the journey if you prefer to have some privacy, or a comfy sleep.

Arrived in Picton and headed straight to Toastie for breakfast (thanks G for the recommendation). I was happy I didnโ€™t eat on the ferry at this toastie was delicious. Itโ€™s a small shop that only serves 7 kinds of sandwiches (no variations) and coffees. It was super busy and I know why.

After that I headed through to Blenheim. Checked into the camp site and then drove around for a bit taking in all the scenery and stopped at the Gin Room for a tasting.

Movie night in my camper and early to bed, ready for the next days adventureโ€ฆ.

As you walk through native bush and clouds of geothermic steam, youโ€™ll discover why this land has inspired myths and legends. Once used by Mฤori warriors to heal their battle-scarred bodies, visitors now use the nutrient-rich waters and mud to ease inflammation and arthritis, as well as rejuvenate the skin. This unique blend of awe-inspiring power and natural healing properties is a thing of cultural legend - having been used for over 800 years.

The bubbling geothermal activity you see is only a small sign of the power existing below. Rลซaumoko is the God of earthquakes, volcanoes and seasons. As the son of the sky father, Ranginui, and the earth mother, Papatลซฤnuku, his legend begins with their separation. Rลซaumoko was taken by his mother to keep her company in a world below our own. The gift bestowed on him was fire, to keep them both warm. It is said that with every movement he makes, Rลซaumokoโ€™s heat boils the earth above.

Unfortunately the van wasnโ€™t ready when I went to collect it so the gave me a courtesy car so that I could start my journey and not waste any time. They delivered my van to me in Rotorua later that evening
