🌾 Beginning its journey in the Khomas Hichland Mountains west of Windhoek with a basin area which covers 21 000 square kilometers, it meanders 500km heading for the coastal Namib desert. It rarely ever has a chance to reach the Atlantic Ocean as it has been barricaded in by mammoth desert dunes. It is only a flowing river for 2/3 weeks per year before being slurped in by the thirsty sand.

✨⭐️ || In the Sossusvlei you’ll not only see the stars at night but when day breaks too. The ‘star dunes’ are what they are called as wind is blown from all directions creating these galactic shapes. These ‘stars’ gleam in the most vivid oranges, pinks, and reds. Among the highest in the world, the dunes reach taller that 200 meters, it truly is a sight to see.

🏜️👻|| A city of wealth to a city of sand.

Built on the foundation of diamonds (literally) is where Kolmaskop gets its other name Diamond Area No. Kolmaskop was built under German colonial rule, where it yielded a million Carats a year, starting between 1908-1912. A few years before the discovery of these diamonds, the Namibian Herero people rebelled against the colonizers which resulted in the killing of over 60 000 Herero. The town’s dark history hid in the shadows cast by the glistening stones. There is nothing left in this ghost town but mere ruins peeking through the sand.

A place once built on physical wealth is now rich in history.

👀 Been around for more than 900 years, witnessed endless tales of the desert the lost Camel Thorn trees rest on the ancient clay bed of the Deadvlei. These clay pans are remnants of what was the refreshing rush of river channels.

As the sun peaks over the mighty sand dunes, it kisses them a warming yellow, saturating these peaks to a burnt orange as midday hits, until waving them goodnight with a flutter of purples and pinks.

What you see in this picture today will not be there tomorrow as the sand is constantly dancing hand in hand with the wind, off to a new dune to rest until the next adventure.

Untouched, untamed and simply amazing, Namibia is all about the landscapes. It's alien-like terrain will make you think of Mars or the moon.
We have fallen in love with this amazing spot in Africa. Swipe to unlock our 2023 bucket list for must see destinations in Namibia.Places on our bucket list for 2023.

🏜️ Dead Vlei || Dead camel thorn trees stand on an ancient clay bed, like sentinels to a forgotten time, their ashen frames casting shadows across the white dust.

💎Kolmanskop || The town of Kolmanskop in Namibia was once one of the wealthiest in the world - its hospital had the first X-ray unit in the southern hemisphere. Now it is buried in the desert.

⭐️Dune 47 || The sand dunes in the Sossusvlei area are known as ‘star dunes’ due to the shape formed when the wind approaches from all directions. As a result, the dunes hardly move.

🌾Kuiseb River View Point || Rising in the Khomas Hochland near Windhoek, the Kuiseb River is a 'linear oasis', an ephemeral river that crosses the Namib Desert.

⚓️ Zeila Shipwreck || Namibia’s infamous ‘Skeleton Coast’, also nicknamed the "The Land God Made in Anger", and "The Gates of Hell" is a desolate stretch of desert running right to the sea. Zeila is a reminder of the power of nature at the ‘End of the Earth’ where lions hunt seals and elephants wade through the surf.

🐘Botswana || Home to the Kalahari Desert, Okavango Delta, and the Saltpans. Need we say more?

🐬Mozambique || The stunning oceans home to dolphins, turtles, whales and more or uncovering beauties of its 12 National Parks and Reserves home to lions and leopards and so much more.

Pizza a la 4X4 🍕🛞🌍

Pizza in the middle of the Africa bush? Definitely not a combo you’d expect. Well, from Africale you can expect the unexpected.

Mike starts off by cutting bread buns in half. From there they cover the base in a rich tomato sauce. After a generous helping of ham and a gentle sprinkle of Italian herbs (bringing a taste of home).
Now this is when it gets interesting. Wrapped up the buns are placed under the tires and driven over. The outcome is a thin pizza base. How do we cook these “pizza’s” you ask? Well, wrapped in tinfoil and placed in the bonnet of the car on top of the engine. While you take in the gorgeous scenery, your pizzas are cooking away. A couple hours later you stop for a break, and you are transported back to Italy with each delicious bite.

Book your next rip with us to experience a taste of Italy the African way – an experience like no other.
