Africa Rainbow Tours here we go this summer once more ,

They are animal that are distinctive in nature ,Zebras are such animals with well decorated stimuli response to it's predators and surrounding Environment .

Zebras relative of the horse family (Equidae) the zebra is a gregarious animal moving in herds of 20 to 100 or more. They often move with wildebeest and occasionally hartebeest or roan antelope. This rather casual symbiosis with other species allows them to pool their defensive alertness and they usually have differing food preferences so grazing is not too competitive. Their gestation period is 12 months and in the wild they have a lifespan of about 20 years.

Interestingly, the stripes of a zebra are unique on each animal, like fingerprints. Burchell’s zebra, the subspecies found in Luangwa Valley, has evenly spaced dark and light stripes as compared to those found in the south and east of Africa, which have broad light stripes with faint shadow stripes between the thin dark lines.

Zebras have shiny coats that dissipate over 70 percent of incoming heat and some scientists believe the stripes help the animals withstand intense solar radiation. The black and white stripes are a form of camouflage called disruptive colouration that breaks up the outline of the body. Although the pattern is visible during daytime, at dawn or in the evening when their predators are most active, zebras look indistinct and may confuse predators by distorting true distance (this is also why a group of zebra is called a ‘dazzle’).

It has always been assumed that the zebra’s stripes are for camouflage but even in woodland cover, this is not convincing, besides which, they often spend their time on open grasslands where they are very conspicuous because of their stripes. The theories are that it serves to create an optical illusion of them being larger than they are, to confuse predators of their exact position when striking or to dazzle their enemies.

Family groups are stable members maintaining strong bonds over many years. Mutual grooming, where zebras stand together and nibble the hair on each other’s neck and back, helps develop and preserve these bonds. Family members look out for one another: if one becomes separated from the rest, the others search for it. The group adjusts its travelling pace to accommodate the old and the weak.

Zebras are significant prey for lions and hyenas, and to a lesser extent for wild dogs, leopards and cheetahs.

When a family group is attacked, the members form a semi-circle, face the predator and watch it, ready to bite or kick should the attack continue. If one of the family is injured the rest will often encircle it to protect it from further attack. A kick from a zebra can break a lion’s jaw.

Zebras are found in most of the national parks in Zambia and in abundance in South Luangwa.

25 Things You Might Not Know About Elephants

Africa Rainbow Tours Loves you all !

Elephants can be described as either eating machines or manure manufacturers, depending on their activity at the time.

Elephants may feed for up to 16 hours a day. In the wild one animal can consume as much as 600 pounds of food in a single day, although 250 – 300 pounds is a more typical amount.

Elephants digest their food with less than 50% efficiency. An elephant defecates from 12 to 15 times a day totaling a daily quantity of 220 – 250 pounds.

Properly equipped, a car could travel 20 miles on the amount of methane produced by one elephant in a single day.

Normal daily water consumption is about 25 – 50 gallons per animal, or 100 – 200 liters.

An elephant’s trunk can hold 2.5 gallons of water.

It is estimated that about 50,000 Asian elephants survive today.

Approximately 13,000 of the 50,000 surviving Asian elephants are maintained in human care in Asian elephant range countries.

Elephants have hair all over their bodies.

Elephants have eyelashes.

The African elephant is the largest living land mammal.

The elephant trunk serves as a nose, a hand, an extra foot, a signaling device and a tool for gathering food, siphoning water, dusting, digging and much more.

Only male Asian elephants have large tusks. Female Asian elephants have small tushes that rarely extend beyond their lip line.

The tusks of elephants grow through their life. Tusks can weigh over 200 pounds each.

Elephants don’t drink with their trunks as if it were a straw, but instead use them as a glass holding the water then pouring it into their mouths.

Elephants can swim and they use their trunk to breathe like a snorkel in deep water.

Elephants have a slow pulse of 27 pulses per minute while a canary has 1000!

The elephant is the only mammal that can’t jump.

The elephant is pregnant for an average of 22 months.

On average baby elephants weigh 200 – 300 pounds at birth.

The elephant is the national animal of Thailand.

An elephant’s tooth can weigh as much as three kilograms.

The intestines of an elephant may be 19 meters in length, or more than 60 feet long.

Elephants purr like cats do, as a means of communication.

Elephants have been known to learn more than 60 commands.

Africa Rainbow Tours has variants of many species and the giant looking animal called Hippopotamus are one of the species found in African rainbow tours.

Who is hippopotamus?

Well , let's check some of the facts of Hippopotamus.
After elephants and rhinos, the hippopotamus is the next largest land mammal. It is also the largest extant land artiodactyl. Despite their physical resemblance to pigs and other terrestrial even-toed ungulates, the closest living relatives of the hippopotamids are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc.), from which they diverged about 55 million years ago. Hippos are recognisable for their barrel-shaped torsos, wide-opening mouths with large canine tusks, nearly hairless bodies, pillar-like legs, and large size: adults average 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) for bulls (males) and 1,300 kg (2,900 lb) for cows (females). Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it is capable of running 30 km/h (19 mph) over short distances.

Hippos inhabit rivers, lakes, and mangrove swamps. Territorial bulls each preside over a stretch of water and a group of five to thirty cows and calves. Mating and birth both occur in the water. During the day, hippos remain cool by staying in water or mud, emerging at dusk to graze on grasses. While hippos rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos typically do not display territorial behaviour on land. Hippos are among the most dangerous animals in the world due to their aggressive and unpredictable nature. They are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory (canine teeth).

Come to Africa Rainbow tour's so that you have yourself true picture who hippopotamus is and this is will be done in the es**rt of well experienced tour guide.

WARTHOGS

Did you know that Africa Rainbow Tours has plenty of Warthog's ?

Did you also knew that warthog are nicknamed ugliest animal in Africa and because of that are most beloved animals.
Children world wide know of Pumbaa Long before they ever get the chance to see a warthog in real life. This member of the pig family gets its name from immense wart like growths on the side of it's face.

They may be in ugly five, but we can think of anything cuter than a line of little warthog's running after their mother with their tails up in the air. While you won't see a warthog singing with a meerkat. They are still a common sighting at African Rainbow tour's.

Common in the bigger national parks, warthogs are usually seen in family groups or pairs. They feed on roots and grasses throughout the day and can often be seen on their front knees digging with the snout (not the tusks) to get at the roots of grasses and sedges. They farrow from June to October and have litters of about 3 to 5 piglets. They are named for the four large protrusions from the sides of the head, not warts at all, but apparently fat reserves, and used in fighting and defence. Warthogs live in holes in the ground where the young stay until they’re big enough to walk with their parents in the open.

Males weigh up to 22kg / 50lb more than females but both are distinguished by disproportionately large heads and the facial ‘warts’ or thick protective pads. Two large pairs occur below the eyes and, usually only in males, a smaller pair nearer the jaw.

Sparse bristles cover the warthog’s body, although longer bristles form a mane from the top of the head down the spine to the middle of the back. Warthogs are grey or black (or yellowish or reddish, if it has been wallowing in mud). The long tail ends with a tuft of bristles.

Warthogs characteristically carry their tails upright when they run, the tuft waving like a tiny flag. As the young run in single file, the tail position may serve as a signal to keep them all together.

Warthogs trot with a springy gait but they are known to run surprisingly fast. They can escape a lion’s burst at 55 kmph / 35mph!

Did you know that Africa's Africa Rainbow Tours offer's you a chance to view Africa's Savannah Sable Antelope?

The sable is one of Africa’s most handsome antelope and renowned for its combative nature, able even to face down lions. Shy, and restricted in range, sightings of this species are always special.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT SABLE ANTELOPE

Scientific name: Hippotragus niger Habitat: Savannah woodland
IUCN status: Least Concern Adult weight: 220–235kg
The sable belongs to the ‘horse-like’ antelope tribe (Hippotraginae), along with oryx and the slightly larger roan. Scientists recognise four subspecies, among which the giant sable of Angola is Critically Endangered.

Adult males are a striking glossy black, with a white belly and badger-like white face stripes. Their majestic profile is accentuated by a powerful neck and long, backward-arching horns. Females and young are slimmer and chestnut-brown, with shorter horns.

Small herds of females and young, accompanied by a single bull, frequent moist savanna woodland, where they both browse and graze. Males defend the herd against predators, going down on their knees to strike sweeping blows with their horns. They are known to have killed lions.

Did you know that Africa Rainbow Tours
Offer's you booking to view Giraffes at an affordable price?

Giraffes are the tallest animal in the world, with a long neck, long legs and a long sloping back. They are gregarious mammals and move in herds of up to 20.

Ancient cultures in Africa revered the giraffe and commonly depicted it in prehistoric rock and cave paintings. Unknown outside Africa, this animal so excited man’s curiosity that it was sometimes sent as a diplomatic gift to other countries; one of the earliest records tells of a giraffe going from ‘Melinda’ (presumably Malindi) in Kenya to China in 1415.

The giraffe (as well as its short-necked relative the okapi from Central African forests) has a distinctive walking gait, moving both legs on one side forward at the same time. At a gallop, however, the gait changes, and the giraffe simultaneously swings the hind legs ahead of and outside the front legs, reaching speeds of 56kmh/ 35mih. Its heavy head moves forward with each powerful stride, then swings back to stay balanced.

They browse on a great variety of trees using their prehensile upper lip and long tongue to grasp the vegetation. Their average height is over 4.5m / 15ft and they often weigh over 1 200kg / 2 650lb.

They breed at any time but usually at the end of the rains having a gestation period of 15 months and almost always only one offspring per birth.

Giraffes have a highly efficient blood circulation system. Their heart beat is 150 times/minute as compared to an elephant at 25 times/minute. This prevents dizziness when they move their heads up and down on average through 5.5m / 18ft when drinking water.

Bulls fight one another by necking, testing their strength by pushing like human arm wrestlers. In the Luangwa Valley there is an endemic subspecies called Thornicroft’s giraffe with slightly different markings.

Giraffe tails were highly prized by the ancient Egyptians and still are in many African cultures. The desire for good-luck bracelets, fly whisks and thread for sewing or stringing beads has led people to kill giraffes for their tails alone.

Giraffes are easily killed and poaching (now more often for their meat and hide) continues today. They are also highly threatened by habitat loss.

1. Did you know that you have 100 percent chance of sighting African Baffalos at Africa Rainbow Tours in Livingstone of Zambia?

2. Did you Know that almost all Zambia's game management areas has African Baffalos?

Well, Let's check in our discussion documentary below some of the Facts about African Buffalo.

The African buffalo made its way into the Big 5 ranking because of their size, moody behavior and their ability to charge with no warning, the African buffalo has been said to be one of the most dangerous animals to hunt on foot.

It can be easy to see why as these enormous bovid weighs in at 800 kg for a male and 750 kg for a female.

The living African buffalo has evolved from a much smaller ancestor that entered Africa roughly 5-6 million years ago, the status of the buffalo has seen much decline over the years as the battle for land and livestock (cattle) continue.

Buffalo are very easily recognizable on a game drive as they are a large ox like looking animal with very large bossed horns. Buffalo are dimorphic which means there is little difference between the male and the female. Male buffalo are often covered in mud and their bosses met in the middle of their head to form a helmet like structure on the head. Younger bulls often still have hairs on their horns. Female buffalo are more of a red brown in coloration and have more narrow horns. Female buffalo have a gestation period of 11 months and mating takes place during the late summer. Buffalo will try to have their calves in the rainy season when there is plenty of green grass, rich in nutrients, to support lactating cows. Cows normally give birth every two years. A calve can stand within in ten minutes of being born – a typical trait because buffalo are always on the move for food and water.

Buffalo have a lifespan of roughly 23 years; they are ranked in their herds by their fighting capabilities. Buffalo will often have head on clashed to determine rank in the herd. The hide on the buffalo’s neck can be as thick as inches to protect it during battles with other male bulls for dominance. Dominant individuals will feed ahead of the rest of the herd or in the middle and gets the best nutrient rich grass and best access to females in oestrus. Buffalo are subsequently led by “pathfinders” (not necessarily dominant animals). Pathfinders act as a leader to the herd and determine where the herd will move.

As buffalo get older and their reproduction peaks pass males will often be chased from the larger herds and are often found in small groups.

Buffalo are gregarious and live in mixed herds often numbering hundreds of individuals. They are not territorial because they are bulk grazers and need to find suitable grazing and water on an ongoing basis. Buffalo consume very coarse material and therefore require as much as twice a day. A buffalo can consume 35 liters of water at a time in a matter of minutes. Buffalo have excellent sense of smell and can use this sense to find food or detect danger and predators nearby. These incredible animals can also swim, and will cross rivers into areas better suited for grazing.

When a buffalo feels threatened they can alert the entire herd – the calves and cows are sheltered in the center whilst the stronger males put on a united front, this is very intimidating for predators and often work in the buffalos favor. The buffalo will mob or intimidate predators and if necessary stampede. Buffalo try to always stay in the herd and have been very successful in defending the herd like this, even if faced with a pride of lion.

Lion will often prey on the weaker, older individuals.

Buffalo are found in all of Zambia's game reserves and the species as a whole faces no danger of extinction. Buffalo

Come and join us at African Rainbow tours sighting these angry looking animal's with well experienced tour guide,we care for the safety of our clients.

Did you know that Baboons?

Africa Rainbow Tours in Livingstone has most beautiful wildlife Sanctuary and amazingly baboons are one of those animals clients are able to view before on-site before making an actual tourism bookings!

Baboons are social primates who tend to live in groups of around 50 individuals (groups can be up to 300 though!). They will be routinely seen participating in social behaviours such as grooming and food sharing.

Baboons are primarily vegetarian however they will eat insects, and occasionally fish, birds and small mammals.
Baboons have a range of different vocalisations for communicating with each other. Over 30 distinct vocalisations including grunts and screams are used in addition to a plethora of non-vocal gestures such as shrugging and lip smacking.

There are five species of baboons. The two most common species, olive baboons and yellow baboons, live in East Africa.
The Guinea baboon is the smallest baboon species, while the Chacma baboon is the largest.

Baboons have loose cheeks which allow them to gather food while foraging to eat later once they return to an area of safety.
Baboons’ daily routine is somewhat similar to our own. They tend to wake up around 7.30am. They spend some time in their group before going out to forage for food. They spend the daylight hours foraging, eating, resting and grooming, before heading back to their sleeping areas at night.
Females tend to give birth every other year. They usually have one infant and their gestation period is 6 months.

Share

The bond between mother and infant baboon is very special. The mother will carry the young until he or she is able to ride on her back. They are in constant contact for the first few months, and the mother is very attentive. Only once an infant reaches around 4 months of age will they be allowed to play and interact with other young baboons.
Baboons are very strong animals and have sharp canine teeth similar in length to lions. They will however try to avoid fighting by using intimidating vocalisations and gestures.
The baboon was revered in Ancient Egyptian culture, being admired for its intelligence. The baboon was also the symbol of the god Thoth, and was sometimes depicted as a guardian of the dead in the underworld.

Baboons have co-existed with human ancestors for many millions of years. The oldest baboon fossil is a skull found in South Africa that is thought to be two millions years old.

Come rain ,come Sunshine you find Baboons these at African Rainbow tours 🙂

Zebras are social animals that spend time in herds. They graze together, primarily on grass, and even groom one another.

Plains zebras are the most common species. They live in small family groups consisting of a male (stallion), several females, and their young. These units may combine with others to form awe-inspiring herds thousands of head strong, but family members will remain close within the herd.

Zebras must be constantly wary of lions and hyenas. A herd has many eyes alert to danger. If an animal is attacked, its family will come to its defense, circling the wounded zebra and attempting to drive off predators.

WELCOME TO Africa Rainbow Tours

Your mere adventure at African Rainbow tours is incomplete without the mentioning of ,"Impalas".

These have some features which I'm going to outline in my article.
1. The impala is a gregarious antelope species encountered in large numbers at Africa Rainbow tour, Impalas have developed a number of adaptations that allow them to thrive. The impala is the only hoofed animal that allogrooms - mutual grooming from one animal to another - as well as grooming itself.

2. An herbivorous species, the impala has adapted to graze and browse, thereby maximising the availability of food. Impala will feed on grasses and herbs, as well as the leaves of bushes and shrubs

3. Male impalas are known for their elegant, spiral horns, which they use to challenge each other in tests of strength at mating time. The winning males herd together groups of up to 50 females, with the younger males or losing challengers joining "bachelor" herds.

4. The impala makes guttural grunts which are audible for a great distance. An alert impala will bark out an alarm that puts the entire herd to flight - and a fleeing impala is hard to catch. Impalas are very fast runners able to leap distances of up to 33 feet (10 meters). They use this technique to escape predators and sometimes, it seems, simply to amuse themselves

5. Impala have a 7 month gestation period and synchronize their calving so that they all give birth within a few days of one Another.

Best time to visit the Victoria Falls

The mighty Victoria Falls marks the boundary between Botswana (just), Zambia and Zimbabwe. This is the place where the waters of the Zambezi River cascade over 100 meters into the “boiling pot” below. A visit to the falls is really a fantastic adventure and something really worth making the effort to do. Again, as with many of the more famous sites in Africa, there is a strong argument to say that you should think of staying away from the busiest areas and benefit from the peace and tranquillity of being further upstream. There is no doubt that a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls at any time of the year will blow you away – the noise, the heat, the moisture, the splash and the overall unique display - but it is worth noting the difference in water volume throughout the months so that you can plan your visit based on the experience it offers.

December to March - The summer period and the height of the rainy season. The weather is hot and as the humidity builds up, thunderstorms often arrive in the afternoon. The Victoria Falls water levels are high and slowly increasing, so activities such as white-water rafting and visiting Livingstone Island Devil’s Pool are usually closed due to safety.

April to June - Many would say that the best time to visit the Falls is the period between April and June which is directly after the area’s summer rains. As a result, the falls have the greatest volume at this time so the amount of water flowing down is simply breath-taking! Visibility from some lookouts can be limited by the abundance of spray and mist so the local name ‘The Smoke That Thunders’ is definitely recognised during this time! Because of high water levels, it is worth noting that white water rafting and Livingstone Island/ Devil’s Pool are closed during these months. A visit to the falls during these months will guarantee to get you soaked… so a poncho or waterproof is a must!

There are superb tourism activities, and one of the fantastic tourism sanctuary it's Africa Rainbow Tours !!!
It offer's quality service with well experience tour guide.
Surprisingly, this is where you find all the big five wildlife species 🔴
