KAFUE NATIONAL PARK
Kafue National Park is the largest national park in Zambia, covering an area of about 22,400 kmยฒ (similar in size to Wales or Massachusetts). It is the second largest park in Africa and is home to over 55 different species of animals. The park is named for the Kafue River. It stretches over three provinces: North Western, Central and Southern. The main access is via the Great West Road from Lusaka to Mongu which crosses the park north of its centre. Seasonal dirt roads also link from Kalomo and Namwala in the south and south-east, and Kasempa in the north. Kafue National Park was established in 1924 .
The park is currently under comanagement between African Parks and DNPW for a period of 20 years , note that this agreement DO NOT cover the surrounding Game Management Areas , this was signed last year and they on ground to start management of the park with an estimated investment of USD Sixty Million dollars making the first big investment of its kind in Zambia . African Parks have come with vast knowledge of park management , currently in Zambia they are in Liuwa National Park and Bangweulu , they are also managing other parks in African , so with this in place Kafue National Park will improve .
The park has a number of lodges , Mwafushi Safari Lodge , Ila Lodge , Mukambi Safari Lodge ,Musungwa , Mayukuyuku , Kubu Kwena , Kaingu , Mapunga Bush Camp and many others these lodges are of international standards and offer very good rates and nice local meals , with experienced tour guides .

Part 2
Our National Parks
Part 2 -The Luangwa Valley Ecosystem:
Over to the East of the country, we have a dense cluster of national parks. This area is known as the Luangwa Valley Ecosystem.
This collection of national parks is made up of South Luangwa National Park, North Luangwa National Park, Luambe National Park and Lukusuzi National Park.
The South Luangwa National Park, is the second largest national park in Zambia, spanning about 9,000kmยฒ. With its western and northwestern edge bordered by the Muchinga Escarpment, and the southern border lined with the meandering Luangwa River, there is no shortage of breathtaking scenery.
The life blood of the South Luangwa National Park is the Luangwa River. The river provides much needed water for the wildlife and is also home to the largest population of Hippoโs in the world.
The North Luangwa National Park is one of the most remote parks in the country. Visiting the park provides a real opportunity to experience a wild landscape, mostly unchanged by human intervention.
Further to the East is the Lukusuzi National Park, much of the landscape here is plateau, dissected by rocky ridges and wooded valleys.
The Luambe National Park is located on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River, in the heart of the Luangwa valley. The habitat ranges from miombo woodland, floodplain and savanna grassland.
All four national parks in this Eastern cluster are interconnected by various Game Management Areas, providing animal corridors for ease of wildlife migration.
The Luangwa Valley Ecosystem has a great variety and density of wildlife. It is the only part of the country where you can see all of the Big 5; Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino. It is also home to many species of Antelope, Giraffe, Zebra, Painted Dog and Hyena.
Heading south west from South Luangwa National Park, you will find the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Although the Lower Zambezi National Park is connected to the Luangwa Vally Ecosystem, via the Mpanshya Wildlife Corridor, over time the Lower Zambezi National Park has become more and more isolated from the Luangwa Valley Ecosystem.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is 4092kmยฒ in size, essentially located in a valley with a large mountain range to the north and east and then the Zambezi River to the south.
There is a rich concentration of wildlife, with most of the large mammals calling the park home. Lion, Leopard, Painted Dog, Buffalo, Elephant, Zebra and a good number of Antelope species can be sighted in the park.

Our National Parks
Part 1 - The Greater Kafue Ecosystem
We have 20 national parks in Zambia, which are located in different parts of the country. Aside from the land designated as national park, most of the parks are also surrounded by Game Management Areas. These designated Game Management Areas act as buffer zones and migration corridors for the wildlife within the parks.
The Kafue National Park is our largest national park by far. At 22,400kmยฒ and spanning three provinces, North Western, Central and Southern, the Kafue National Park is one of the largest National Parks in Africa. Further east from the Kafue National Park are two smaller parks, the Blue Lagoon National Park and the Lochinvar National Park. Along with the surrounding game management areas, this wildlife area is known as the Greater Kafue Ecosystem.
The Kafue National Park is dissected by the Kafue River. The river runs through the park, providing much needed water to the wildlife inhabitants. As the river turns eastward, after Itezhi Tezhi Dam, it forms the Kafue Flood Plains. The Lochinvar and Blue Lagoon National Parks are part of this flood plain area. Although becoming more and more isolated from the Kafue Natuonal park, there is still some migratory activity between the two smaller parks and the Kafue Ecosystem.
The Greater Kafue Ecosystem is extremely rich in wildlife, specifically within the Kafue National Park. Apart from Rhino and Giraffe, you would expect to see most of the large mammals like Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Painted Dog, Elephant, Buffalo and a good variety of Antelope.
Due to the size of the Greater Kafue Ecosystem, the scenery and terrain varies. The northern part of the park is mainly floodplains, an area called the Busanga Plains. The center and larger part of the park is mainly miombo woodland and grassland savanna. The southern part of the park is quite mountainous, with meandering hills and valleys. Heading westwards towards Blue Lagoon and Lochinvar National Parks, the area opens up to floodplain again, with large open grassland and dambos.
The Blue Lagoon National Park is located on the northern side of the Kafue River and can be described as an open expanse of dry grass that transforms completely into a watery wonderland in the wet season as the Kafue River bursts its banks. The vast floodplain attracts the Kafue Lechwe, Zebra, Sitatunga, Buffalo and numerous Antelope
Lochinvar National Park is located south of the Blue Lagoon National Park, on the other side of the Kafue River. Its northern boundary is marked by the river while the southern boundary is marked by wooded hills. The park is home to mammals like Kafue Lechwe, Bushbuck, Kudu, Baboon, Bushpig and Vervet monkey.
Both Lochinvar and Blue Lagoon National Parks are birders' paradises, with over 400 species recorded.

PROFLIGHT WROTE
PROFLIGHT COMMENCES FLIGHTS TO KASAMA
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing convenience and promoting tourism, Proflight Zambia has recommenced flights to Kasama.
The airline's 29-seat twin-turbo prop Jetstream 41 aircraft landed at Kasama airport on March 19, marking the re-launch of this pivotal route. The last scheduled flight into Kasama was in December 2018 after which the runway closed for refurbishment.
"Proflight is very excited to commence flights to Kasama," remarked Proflight Zambia Director of Flight Operations Captain Josias Walubita. "Our commitment remains steadfast, to provide world-class air services while connecting local cities and inspiring unforgettable journeys. Proflight is not just about flights; it's about fostering connections and opening doors to endless possibilities."
This new service significantly reduces travel time for those heading to Northern Province or vice versa, sparing them from the arduous journeys that could take over 13 hours by road.
Kasama, a vital provincial capital in Northern Zambia, now enjoys scheduled access through Proflight's direct schedules, catering to both business and leisure travelers with a 1-hour 30-minute direct flight and about a 2-hour 30-minute flight via Mansa.
The flight schedule includes direct routes from Lusaka to Kasama on Tuesdays departing at 08:00hrs and arriving in Kasama at 09:30hrs. On Thursdays via Mansa, the flight departs at 08:00hrs and arrives in Kasama at 10:25hhrs. Return flights from Kasama to Lusaka are available on Thursdays departing at 10:50hrs, arriving at 12:10hrs in Lusaka. Tuesday flights from Kasama via Mansa to Lusaka depart at 09:55hrs and arrive at 12:20hrs. Connecting flights to or from Ndola are also offered, providing flexibility for travellers.
