GRINDING STONE
Food preparations take different forms. Some one uses a sharp instrument to slice the food such as tubers, vegetables, meat before it was be put in a pot . Grain, like rice, wheat, sorghum, millet and maize is a source of food. Maize can be boiled and eaten as snack. But maize, sorghum, millet are usually ground to produce powder, known as mealie meal from which porridge is prepared in form of nshima or soft porridge. The earliest "machine" used to grind grain was a grinding stone. Grinding process involves a combination of a big flat smooth stone known in Tonga as zyiyo was used as a base while a smaller flat smooth stone known as mwanankando was used to crush the grain by gliding over the base. The smaller one glides over the base one loaded with grain crushing the grain the grain into powder.
Human beings have from time immemorial used available materials to manufacture technology to enhance their existence. In Zambia different kinds of stones are available. So it was easy to harness technology to crush large quantity of grain into mealie meal for nshima preparation for the family. Women usually expertly used this technology to prepare nshima. Sometimes fresh maize grains are crushed . The product is bound into fresh green cob covers or makweelele and boiled and eaten like bread. Grain is rich in carbohydrates and therefore is an important part of human diet.

Let's talk about Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe has five UNESCO World heritage sites. There are three cultural sites: the Khami Ruins, Great Zimbabwe National Monument, and Matobo Hills and two natural sites: Victoria Falls and Mana Pools. The Khami Ruins is an extensive complex of stonewalled sites and once was the capital of the Butua State. Khami was developed between 1450 and 1650. The ancestral Shona people built the Great Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 between 1100 and 1450 AD. They are the largest ruins in sub-Saharan Africa. The Matobo Hills have one of the highest concentrations of rock art in Southern Africa. These date back at least 13,000 years. The Mana Pools are home to a wide variety of wild animals, for instance, elephants, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs and Nile crocodiles.

The Freedom Statue is one of the historic attractions in Lusaka built in memory of the freedom fighters that struggled and lost their lives during the war for Independence. The place holds a special significance during the Africa Freedom Day celebrations, remembering all the martyrs from history. The statue is built in the corner of Lusaka National Museum that depicts a man breaking the bo***ge and the chain to set himself free from colonial slavery and dependence. Since 1964 this place is meant to celebrate the independence of Zambia and its people.

Emerging from the heart of Zambia, the Lusaka National Museum stands as a testament to the rich history and vibrant culture of this captivating nation. Located in the bustling city of Lusaka, the museum serves as an enlightening voyage through time, narrating the nation's evolving narrative from its ancient roots to its modern incarnation.

In the making since the 1980s, the museum finally swung open its doors to the public in the October of 1996. Though its original intent was to showcase the history of Zambian independence, by the time it was inaugurated, the museum had expanded its scope to encapsulate a broader spectrum of Zambian cultural history.

Let's visit the museum.
