Did you know that the African wild dog is known by many names, including Cape hunting dog or painted dog? Its scientific name, Lycaon pictus, means “painted wolf,” referring to the animal's irregular, mottled coat, which features patches of red, black, brown, white, and yellow fur. Each animal has its own unique coat pattern, and all have big, rounded ears.

Lower Zambezi happens to be home to one of Africa’s largest and most successful packs of African Painted Dogs.
The Zambezi Pack is regularly above 35 members and last year hit a high of 45! This pack has been documented taking down buffalo by multiple documentary film crews. Their strength, size and ability to work together make them truly unique and an awe-inspiring sighting.

Fun Fact Friday (Giraffe)

Did You know that Giraffes are the tallest mammals on Earth? Their legs alone are taller than many humans about 6 feet and they can run as fast as 35 milers s an hour over short distances, or cruise at 10 mph over longer distances. A giraffe's neck is too short to reach the ground as a result, it has to awkwardly spread its front legs or kneel to reach the ground for a drink of water and they only need to drink once every few days, most of their water comes from all the plants they eat. Giraffes spend most of their lives standing up; they even sleep and give birth standing up.
