Wild Dogs at Shawa Luangwa
Cooperation is key!
Pack structure is crucial for wild dogs to make a successful hunt and these elusive predators are masters of strategy. During a hunt, each dog takes on a critical role, with some leading the chase, others cutting off escape routes, and a few ready for take town. When it comes down to the final moments, each wild dog is prepared to finish.
Our awesome guide at Shawa Luangwa Camp, Jackson (otherwise known as Jack Sparrow), captured this South Luangwa pack in action over the weekend. “In just the blink of an eye, we saw them chase and catch right in front of our vehicle. Such an amazing experience,” he says.

Big Busanga Dynamics
“There’s no friendship when it comes to food with lions,” says head guide at Chisa Busanga Camp, Newton Mulenga.
“This [yesterday] morning, we witnessed Yaya killing a male lechwe and later dragged it to a spot where she left Mohawk and the cubs. In this video, Mohawk is displaying dominance and not willing to share.”
Lion dynamics have been especially tense on the Plains of late, as the battle for dominance between males ensues, and as the desire for rain and sustenance increases.
