"Mohawk is asking for dental insurance due to regular territorial fights," jokes Newton Mulenga, head guide at Chisa Busanga Camp. 🦁

This image captures a behaviour known as the flehmen grimace. When lions curl back their lips like this, they're actually analysing scents in the air—particularly those left behind by other lions. It’s all part of their strategy to establish dominance and monitor rival movements.

This seasoned warrior still controls the northern territory near Chisa Camp, while the new contender holds his ground in the south. Stay tuned for more updates as the drama unfolds across the plains of Kafue National Park.

There has been a changing of the guard in Busanga Plains 🦁Captured by Newton Mulenga, head guide at Chisa Busanga Camp, this magnificent male lion is the new ruler of South Central Busanga Plains.

Just a month ago, he challenged Mohawk, the dominant male, in a fierce territorial battle. Although he lost the fight, the plains are now split. Mohawk roams north near Chisa Camp and the papyrus areas, while this impressive newcomer holds his ground further south around Acacia Island.

Our Romance with Africa

At Green Safaris we fell deeply in love with Africa and its people a long time ago.

Our love was inspired by our Founder, Vincent Kouwenhoven’s desire to preserve the purity of its people and communities. Thus, began Africa’s greatest romance with an investment and a commitment to do just that, devote true love to Africa, its people, its communities and its environment. In doing so, Green Safaris now shares this love with the world.

In 2015 Ila Safari Lodge was born, the first daughter to the Green Safari’s family. Perched on the banks of the Kafue River just outside the Kafue National Park with private tented chalets, outside baths and 180-degree views - luxury came early to the Green Safaris family. Ila Safari Lodge was the first child born to what is now a family aimed at providing Africa with the most sustainable tourist destinations. To fully blend in with nature, the team used materials from the natural surroundings to build the Boma out of sand bags, they integrated a solar farm, installed a bio gas system, brought in Zambia’s first ever electric boat and land cruiser for silent and sustainable safaris, run the lodge plastic free, support the surrounding communities and are actively involved in conservation. Ila Safari Lodge was the first born to what is now Africa’s most sustainable safari circuit.

Following closely behind the build of Ila Safari Lodge, Green Safaris found a suitor with the same love for Africa in its community, conservation, and environment. In 2016 their romance led to a love like no other and Kaya Mawa very quickly became part of the Green Safaris family - offering a beach to our bush destination on a secluded island in the middle of the clear blue Malawian waters.
