It's not always common seeing a lion up a tree, but it does happen quite a bit and especially with younger lions. This is a young male from the SCZ pride in Kafue National Park. We had a rather hysterical morning with the young lion as he tried his hand at tree climbing. Not the most majestic but does keep him away from biting insects and gives him a great vantage point. An amazing end to a fantastic 12-night safari, and thanks to @classiczambia for allowing me to host my @wild_n_beyond_safaris guests with you through the 12-nights. An amazing feeling to find a very shallow sand bar on the mighty Zambezi and just do something special and unique. Possibly one of the most special sounds to hear in the African wilderness is the call of a lion. A duet of a coalition is even better. The Lumbaya Boys calling to announce territory just after dusk was a sign of their power and authority over Eden lagoon. Sometimes you get the chance to see these giants do incredible things. During the drier months in the Zambezi Valley the elephants can quite often be found standing on their back legs, trying to reach the high branches. As food is getting less so is the bottom of the tall trees or browse line. So the more experienced older bulls now perform 'circus-like' tricks to stand and reach up and feed. A great ending but sad to leave, until next time. @classiczambia and Kutali Camp.

Fantastic sighting of a new pack in the Musekese area in the Kafue National Park in Zambia. The Wild Dogs had an attempt at a puku, (an Antelope species) and then thought a hippo was a good thing to play with. Their inquisitive nature saw them chase the hippo into the pool and then watch it from the side. Great mammal behaviour and interspecies behaviour. @classiczambia Musekese Camp.

We are seeing lions dissappear across Africa through habitat destruction, human wildlife conflict, and poaching but the next generation seems to be still potentially growing. The resident pride at Kutali bushcamp with @classiczambia in the Lower Zambezi National Park are growing. There are 2 new cubs this year, a pregnant female and a few days of mating with this female. The future looks bright, great to see.

Coming home and finding your animals are happy to see you. A special honour when these big bulls allow us into their space. Stopped down our road and this very relaxed bull elephant just wondered past us and off to find more food. We commonly find elephants and other animals using the roads, the path of least resistance, why walk in the bumpy bush when you can use this wonderful flat, maybe a pothole or two, bush path instead.

One of the most beautiful moments in Africa is watching a graceful leopard in the wet season. The colour contrast is always something that encapsulates the splendour of safari. Was lucky enough to have this sighting all to ourselves as I took my wife and daughter out one evening.

The Painted Wolves (African Wild Dog) came out to play. It's amazing to see the Kakumbi pack back in force this year. I am hoping for a successful breeding season for these enigmatic animals. As Africa's second rarest carnivores, sightings are always very special, in Zambia and especially the South Luangwa they are more often seen.
