MUKUVISI WOODLANDS

Although small, this reserve is well maintained and offers a pleasant few hours in a convenient location. You and your family can walk through the game park because there aren’t any predators in it, and can even take a horseback ride through the woodlands to get much closer to the animals than you would on foot.

Travel and Leisure ranks Hwange national park in top ten coming second after Namibia's Namib-Naukluft National Park one of the largest national parks in the world, at nearly 20,000 square miles, and the largest in Africa.

Hwange National park borders Botswana, and the largest elephant population in the world lives across the two countries, a large portion of them congregating in Hwange.

The best time to catch a glimpse of these "super herds" is the dry season (August to October), when they gather around the water holes. There are also lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and rhinos to see.

One of the best things about Hwange — Zimbabwe's largest game park — is that it's within driving distance of Victoria Falls and its international airport, so you can easily combine a safari with a trip to the famous attraction.

ZIMBABWE A GOOD DESTINATION TO COMBINE GAME-VIEWING, FUN ACTIVITIES, AND NATURAL ATTRACTIONS.

Zimbabwe has a generous sample of the Africa many people hope to see – untamed savannah, mighty rivers, thundering waterfalls, and a good variety of African animals.

The Victoria Falls are the principal attraction, where the Zambezi spills dramatically into the Bakota Gorge, and Hwange, Mana Pools and Gonarezhou are just some of the immensely rewarding parks to see big game.

I particularly love the distinctively Zimbabwean landscapes; balancing boulders, giant baobab trees and ubiquitous beehive hut settlements scattered across the veld.

Probably my favourite highlight of Zimbabwe is the wonderful people, and every time I visit I’m always struck by their warmth and friendliness.

Service is impeccable with well-trained staff, and Zimbabwe is renowned for its professional safari guides who have gone a long way to lifting guiding standards across Africa.

The diverse habitats are home to impressively large populations of elephant and buffalo and usually-rare species like roan antelope and wild dog. Safari options are not confined to the back of a vehicle, and there is also some excellent walking and canoeing too.

The endless list of activities based around Victoria Falls includes bungee-jumping and white-water rafting, while excursions like scenic flights and river cruises offer the chance to see wildlife along the banks of the life-giving Zambezi.

Despite its well-publicized political and economic problems, Zimbabwe’s tourist industry has rarely been affected and it’s always maintained its strong reputation as an attractive safari destination.

It has a good choice of hotels, lodges and camps, Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Authority is pro-active at protecting the wild spaces, and added advantages for visitors include the new international airport opening at Victoria Falls and being able to use US$ (now the de facto currency).

Strategically too, a big advantage is the proximity of Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park in the west to attractions in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

The Save, Runde and Mwenezi rivers flow through the park attracting the numerous species of wildlife especially birdlife, the river teeming with numerous species of fish.

As its name implies, Gonarezhou is famous for its elephants, and many of the largest-tusked elephants in the region maybe are found within the Park.

Bridal Veil Falls, also known as Bridalveil Falls, is a waterfall in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe.

Located within the boundaries of Chimanimani National Park, the waterfall is famed for its natural beauty.

Bridal Veil Falls is located in the mountains above the Zimbabwean town of Chimanimani. They are famed for their beauty and relative remoteness; as such, the site has become a destination for photographers and ecotourists.

In 2019, it was feared that heavy rains brought on by Cyclone Idai had destroyed the falls—reports later confirmed that the waterfall had survived the storm, albeit with much of the surrounding vegetation having been destroyed in the flooding.

The plunge pool formed below the falls is known as Tessa's Pool.

PRACTICAL WAYS TO SAVE FOR YOUR DREAM HOLIDAY PART 1.

Is your family longing for a break? A holiday is the perfect opportunity for you all to take a break from work and school, get away from it all, and spend quality time with each other.

Whether your family craves action and adventure, or takes a more laid-back approach to travel, it’s important to plan well in advance to get the most out of the experience.

Planning the ‘where’ and the ‘when’ of your next getaway is probably the most enjoyable part, but working out how you’re going to pay for it is critical.

After all, you don’t want to go into debt for a holiday. We’ve put together 5 practical tips on how you can plan for and save toward a dream family holiday.

1. Choose a destination in advance

Picking a destination and committing to a time period helps your savings goal become more tangible. The internet really has revolutionised the way people plan their travels, and a little online research will give you a good idea of how much you’ll need to set aside for a stress-free break.

Having trouble picking a destination? The reality is some destinations will be more expensive than others. So, set your maximum budget first by deciding:

• The limit of what you want to spend
• How long you want to be away

Once you know what you want to spend, you can narrow down the list of destinations to those within your budget.
