Mana Pools National Park is a world of heritage, site which is evident in its untouched wilderness and beauty. It is a collection of islands, channels, sandbanks, and oxbow lakes, resulting in a wildlife-rich safari in Zimbabwe. The park is home to the big four ( lion, elephant, Buffalo & Leopard), painted dogs, various types of antelope, and more than three hundred bird species.

Camp by the River Zambezi or enjoy the numerous luxury tented camps within the Park, the alluvial soils in the flood plain are supported by mature riverine woodlands of natal mahogany, rain tree, and apple ring acacia while the areas further from the Zambezi River are covered with Mopane, thick Jesse bush and towering Baobab trees.

The Matobo Hills were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.

The area is characterised by a profusion of distinctive hilly granite rock formations. The hills were formed over 2 billion years ago with granite being forced to the surface through volcanic activity and this has eroded to produce smooth “whaleback dwalas” and broken kopjes, strewn with boulders and interspersed with thickets of vegetation. The highest point in the hills is the promontory named Gulati (1549 m) just outside the north-eastern corner of the park.
The area exhibits a profusion of distinctive rock landforms rising above the granite shield that covers much of Zimbabwe. The large boulders provide abundant natural shelters and have been associated with human occupation from the early Stone Age right through to early historical times, and intermittently since. They also feature an outstanding collection of rock paintings.

Umba Africa Volunteers have green fingers with mudballs, which are baobab seeds wrapped in mud and cow manure and then sun-dried. they threw out into Gonarezhou. All they did was throw the balls in areas where the baobab are not as plentiful as they used to be in the past and await the rains to do their thing!
