Dear Liwa Lovers,

Here we are again closing the season in Liwa and bidding farewell to our camp :)
A big thank you to all our guests, who despite all of Covid restrictions managed to beat all Odds and visit us in Liwa 🙂
The only sad news was the re-location of our operation from the Liwa Hotel during Covid time but hopefully we can re-start in a more positive way in Ocotber this year. Tilal Liwa had approached us as well and we are also looking at strenghning our cooperation for next season. I wish you all the best during summer holidays and have safe trips 🙏🙏🙏

Dear Liwa Lovers,
I hope all of you and your family are well and in good health.
Allow me to update you with the current situation and latest news about Liwa and Rub Alkhali Tourism.
You all remember well that we had our operation based at the Liwa hotel since the last 4-5 years. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the hotel was not in operation for almost one full year, during which time the owners had invested heavily in renovation work with the hope that travel restrictions easing up and allowing tourist to visit Abu Dhabi and Liwa area. However, despite all the efforts undertaken by the UAE and Abu Dhabi in particular, the rule requiring every visitor to undergo a quarantine period had a negative impact and was a real obstacle in promoting and visiting Liwa.
We at Rub Alkhali Tourism, were similarly affected and I was thinking of closing the company last summer especially when I realized that the tourism authorities were not keen on exempting tour companies from licence fees renewals and other related operating costs.
To ad salt to injuries, the new management at Liwa Hotel asked us to move out and relocate elsewhere. This happened recently and you can all imagine the kind of problems I was facing, from finding new location to park our Portable Cabin, hiring transportation, and paying rent for the space. I had released my staff (Badshah & Babu) last February and hope to bring them back once tourism recovers.
So far, I managed to survive by selling some company assets and doing some freelance work in Dubai where I stay with my family.
I am all hope that Expo 2020 will be a savior for all the hospitality industry, and I am looking forward to get involved soon!
As for Liwa, I will still offer the Tag Along tours for owners of 4x4, however I will not be able to offer the full camping package in my camp, due to the absence of staff 😒
Being in Dubai, I have a good team and reliable supplier, who can assist me in organizing camping tours and exclusive dinners within Dubai emirate. Feel free to contact me any time should you have any special request.

Dear Liwa Lovers,
Not only we did survive Covid-19, but we manage to keep Rub Alkhali Desert Tourism alive throughout the toughest of times.
My appreciation and gratitude goes out to my very loyal customers who supported my operation all the way through the pandemic and without which i would have had to make dramatic decision about the continuation of our business in Liwa and Western region.
As you all know, summer is knocking on the doors and i will be settling back in Dubai by end of April.
I will continue to offer the 4x4 training courses during summer (early AM and late PM).
A big thank you again to all my guests/visitors and i look forward to a more positive business by next winter.
I wish all of you a pleasant summer and a safe stay.

To all my buddies/family/friends and people around the globe 🌐
This year's greeting is very special and will be very demanding too, so bear with me until the end 🙏
Normally, this time of the year is a time for contemplation and self-evaluation where we all sit down and go through our lives and see if we have achieved our set targets whether its career related, family matters, health concerns and our overall happiness.
This time and year, something different took priority, namely the Corona Pandemic which
had a tremendous effects on our social, economic, spiritual as well as political lives all over the world.
We sadly realized that a good percentage of our communities were more vulnerable than others especially those elderly and wiser among us. To those who caught Covid-19 and managed to recover, I congratulate them and wish them a continuous and healthy journey. Those who could not make it and left us early, I pray for their souls to also continue their spiritual journey in another dimension and existence (hoping to join them as well in future🙏)
My new year's resolution will be simple and down to earth:

"Let us all stay healthy and safe"
• I just want to breath fresh air
• I just want to eat more healthy food
• I just want to drink unpolluted water
• I just want to see my family/friends/colleagues happy and successful
• I just want to be able to hug/kiss my beloved
• I just want to enjoy group sports again
• I just want to travel without restrictions

As much as I would have liked to welcome you back in our beautiful Liwa, I am obliged to advise you otherwise due to the danger of the Corona virus. However, should you still wish to go out and explore, remember to keep a safe distance from others, take enough sanitizers and avoid eating in restaurants.
I hope this epidemic will make us all come out stronger as well as learn a new lesson in cooperation and preparation for future calamities. 😷🙏🙏🙏

Dear Xpeditioners!

The Gulf News is quite right - the desert is a good place to be at the moment.

Think of it - if you are self driving your own 4x4 in the desert, you are sharing breathing space only with your own family or friends. When you get out of your car you are in the largest wilderness - ie expanse of unpolluted air - in the country!

If you join myself or Marina "Expedtion Arabia" on a tag along offroad tour, there is no need to go on a course first as we already coach first timers in the art of desert driving on our regular trips - and have done for 10 years!.

You can also gather a group of friends together and we will tailor a suitable itinerary - driving level, route, trip duration - for you.

Here are some important hygiene protocols we follow.

1. We have hand sanitiser but highly recommend everyone takes their own too.

2. We provide bbq, campfire, boiling water but we prefer you to take your own food.

3. Under normal circumstances we take every opportunity to reduce plastic waste, however for the time being we will switch to disposable plates, cutlery and cups. You may take your own reusable.

Note - driving in the desert on your own carries multiple risks, especially if you have no mobile phone connection . We recommend you drive with at least two more cars, one of which should be piloted by an experienced driver.

The time has finally come to bid farewell to my beloved, trusted and reliable "Phantom"
My beloved beast accompanied me all over the Empty Quarter Desert for the last 4 years without any sign of tiredness or complaint! Phantom is considered part of my family which means I took excellent care of it’s “health” and well being 😊
The slightest “cough” or “sneeze” were immediately reported to her doctors at ICON Garage who diligently analyzed the symptoms and applied the necessary treatment in the most professional manners.
I bought “Phantom” back in September 2015 from Nissan Agency in Dubai for a total of 136,000 Dhs (incl. bank interest) and drove her for less than 68,000 km (no more than 15,000 km per year).
“Phantom” needed some “makeup” to get her in par with other “desert beast”, so I draw the plan and did all these “plastic surgeries” with a total cost of approx. 35,000 Dhs (excluding labor)

I AM ASKING A PRICE OF 125,000 Dhs and hate to bargain when it comes to "family members" :)

Dear Adventure Lovers,
I hope many of you will be back soon from their summer holidays and looking forward to continue their passion for off-roading in Liwa.
A quick update on the latest developments related to Rub Alkhali Desert Tourism.
As you are all probably aware of, the Liwa Hotel is undergoing a major rennovation and the expected date of re-opening is still unknown as of their latest information and communication with us. Therefore, we will accordingly have different meeting location for the start of our tours (tentatively i chose the only Adnoc petrol station in Mezzaira) this will however be confirmed on all booking replies from our side.
We are presently on the process of finalizing Quad Bike Tours as well for the more adventerous souls out there. We are actually looking to hire marshals for this exciting adventures, so if you know someone who is interested on a seasonal contract basis let us know, and you may send your application by e-mail to [email protected]

To all Liwa Lovers,
A small note to thank you all for participating in our adventure throughout 2018/19.
As you all begin to notice, the mercury is rising and summer is knocking on the doors ☀️🌞☀️ we are also gradually preparing to shut our camp by the end of April. We will still be operating the normal tours until end of May.
For those escaping the summer heat, I wish them and their families enjoyable holidays and hope to see you next winter in Liwa again!
