Australian Visa Changes for 2024-2025

Visa Changes effect on 1 July 2024.

1. Starting on 1 July, 2024 nationals from China, Vietnam, and India who wish to undertake in a working holiday visa in Australia will need to first apply for a place through a ballot system, which comes with a fee of AUD$ 25
2. If you are chosen, you can apply for the Work and Holiday visa(subclass 462)

3. Holiday visa has caps: The holiday visa for Vietnam has a limit of 1500 places. The program for India has not started yet, but expected a cap of 1000 and China has 5000 places.

4. A new visa for young Indian professionals: Starting from 1st July 2024, a new temporary visa will be available for young Indian professionals aged 18-30 who hold qualifications in fields such as renewable energy, mining, engineering, information and communication technology, artificial intelligence, financial technology, and agricultural technology. This initiative, known as MATES (Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professional Scheme), will offer up to two years of visa eligibility and will have 3000 spots for primary applicants.

5. After your application is chosen through the ballot process, you may proceed to apply for the visa by paying the application fee of AUD$ 365. Your immediate family members can be included in this visa application and will not be counted towards the cap..

6. Onshore Student Visa Applications: Starting on July 1, 2024, individuals holding the following visas will no longer qualify to apply for student visas while in Australia.

• Temporary Graduate (Sub 485)
• Visitor (Sub 600
• Electronic Travel Authority (Sub 601)
• Medical Treatment (602)
• eVisitor (Sub 651)
• Maritime Crew (Sub 988)

7. Temporary Graduate Visas (TGV): (TGV) are seeing a reduction in the length of stay for holders, as well as the implementation of a new age limit of 35 years. Nevertheless, research students pursuing a master's or PhD degree can still qualify until the age of 50, including those holding Hong Kong and British National Overseas passports.
8. The duration of the TGV program in the Post Vocational Education Stream remains consistent at 18 months. This is in line with the previous duration.

9. The length of stay for Post-Higher Education Work stream changes as follows:
a. Bachelor degree, including honours can stay up to two years.
b. Masters by coursework-2 years stay
c. Masters by research or a PhD- 3 years
10. TGV holders who have graduated from a regional educational institution and have resided in a regional area for a minimum of two years have a different length.

11. TGV subclass 486 is being streamlined from four to 3 and renamed as follows:
a. Graduate Work Stream becomes Post-Vocational Education Work stream
b. Post Study Work Stream becomes the Post Higher education Stream
c. Second Post-study work stream becomes second Post-Higher Education Work stream

Note: The initial stay periods for Indian nationals will remain unchanged.

Designated cities or major regional centers: Including Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, The Sunshine Coast, Newcastle/Lake Macquaire, Wollongong/Illawara, Canberra, Geelong and Hobart.
Regional centers or other regional areas, including all other areas of regional Australia excluding the areas mentioned above and the cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Australia-Perth (WA) and Gold Coast (Queensland) to be added as regional areas for immigration purposes when the new changes come into effect from Nov 16, 2019.

Longer 485 Graduate Visas

International students who study in regional areas will have access to longer visa 485-PSWV. Western Australia and Queensland state governments planning to attract more international students once the Perth and God Coast classified as regional areas.
From 16 November, students who studied in regional areas, including Adelaide, Sunshine Coast, Canberra Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra, Geelong, Hobart, Perth, and the Gold Coast will be able to obtain an additional year on their Graduate visa.

Visa Processing
Immigration department increasing regional visa quota to 25000 out of 160,000 total places and applicants will have priority visa processing under regional visas once the changes implemented from mid-November. Applicants who have relatives settled in Perth and Gold Coast may have new opportunities for visa sponsorship.

Living costs as below + Tuition Fees
• AUD$ 21,041: main applicant
• AUD$$7,362: partner or spouse
• AUD$$3,152: for each dependent child
• AUD$$8,296: schooling costs for dependent children
How to show funds:
Your spouse or your parents can sponsor and provide the supporting documents. Alternatively can show the proof of evidence of their taxable income in the 12 months prior to application and minimum income required is as follows:
• $62,222: single applicant or $72,592: an applicant with dependents
Acceptable Financial Evidence:
• Fixed deposit;
• A student loan or government loan
• Student scholarship

Australian immigration -New Proposed changes 2019/2020; announcement on 2 April
• Visa application fees will increase for all visas except Visitor visas From 1 July 2019.(planned increase for PR skilled over $ 200; graduate visa $80 and Partner visa $ 386)
• Change in skilled migration points test From 1 November 2019
• The number of visas granted cut from 190,000 to 160,000 for 2019/2020
• Closure of 489 and 187 visas from 1st November 2019, replaced by new regional visas ( include anywhere outside of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, so migrants can look at places like Queensland's North coast and Toowoomba, New South Wales' Northern Rivers, Central coast, and Hunter Valley, Geelong and the Grampians region in Victoria, and anywhere in South Australia, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory)
• Proposal to introduce two new skilled regional visas from November 2019 and one new permanent regional visa from November 2022. (Regional visas anywhere outside of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth).These visas will be valid for 5 years and pathway to permanent visa after 3 years of working and living in the regional area.
• From 2021,international students who studying at regional universities, can have access to additional one-year post study work visa and new scholarships will be available for higher education and vocational education qualifications

Mr. Kapoor comes home one night, and his wife throws her arms around his neck: "I have great news… I'm a month overdue. I think we're going to have a baby!

The doctor gave me a test today, but until we find out for sure, we can't tell anybody."

The next day, Mrs. Kapoor receives a telephone call from Reliance Energy because the electricity bill has not been paid.

" Am I speaking to Mrs. Kapoor? "

"Yes… speaking"

Reliance guy, "You're a month overdue, you know!"

"How do YOU know?" stammers the young woman.

"Well, ma'am, it's in our files!" says the Reliance guy.

"What are you saying? It's in your files… HOW ???"

" Yes ….. We have a system of finding out who's overdue "

" GOD !!!… This is too much…"

"Madam, I am sorry… I am just following orders… I have to inform that you are overdue.."

"I know that … let me talk to my husband about this tonight. He will speak to your company tomorrow.. "

That night, she tells her husband about the incident, and he, mad as a bull,rushes to Reliance office the next day morning.

"What's going on? You have it on file that my wife is a month overdue? What business is that of yours?" the husband shouts..

"Just calm down," says the lady at the reception at Reliance, "it's nothing serious. All you have to do is pay us."

"PAY you? And if I refuse?"

"Well, in that case, sir, we'd have no option but to cut yours off.."

"And what would my wife do then?" the husband asks.

"Well… I don't know. I guess she'd have to use a candle !!!
