Former president and House senior deputy speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led 18 other lawmakers in filing a resolution which called on the House of Representatives to declare "unequivocal defense" of former president Rodrigo Duterte against the investigation of International Criminal Court (ICC) into his war on drugs.

House Resolution No. 780 emphasized that Duterte's "remarkable accomplishments brought about by his relentless campaign against illegal drugs, insurgency, separatism and terrorism, corruption in government and criminality" made the life of Filipinos "better, comfortable and peaceful".

The measure also quoted Justice secretary Boying Remulla, who called ICC's intent to resume its investigation as "insulting" and "totally unacceptable".

The ICC on January 27 announced that it will resume its pre-trial probe into the previous president's anti-drugs illegal campaign, which left thousands killed.

It was suspended in 2021 on the request of the Duterte administration for a chance to do its own probe, which ICC prosecutor Karm Khan found unsatisfactory.
