Antigua and Barbuda is gearing up for an exciting period as it prepares to host the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States, , and T20 Cricket World Cup.

With thousands of visitors expected to descend upon our shores, the V.C. Bird International Airport is bracing itself for an unprecedented influx of travelers.

To ensure seamless operations and a world-class experience for all guests, Minister of Tourism and Aviation the Hon. Charles Fernandez, was today led on a tour by top officials of the Airport Authority.

Accompanied by key airport officials, Minister Fernandez received comprehensive updates on all aspects of the preparations, ensuring that every detail is addressed to accommodate the surge in visitor numbers.

Antigua and Barbuda is indeed honoured to welcome the world to our beautiful twin-island paradise.

With our renowned hospitality and the hard work of our dedicated teams, we are confident that both and the T20 Cricket World Cup will be resounding successes.

So today was emotional as we ushered in a new era for the only airline that could truly carry the name, LIAT.
As the two ERJ 145 aircraft descended from the clouds, we are once again assured that regional travel has a bright future and LIAT20 will be a part of it.

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority is pleased to announce the launch of its annual Summer Internship Programme.

This is a unique opportunity for students and recent university graduates to be exposed to the amazing and diverse career opportunities in the aviation industry.

Flight operations at the VC Bird International have fully returned to normal following an incident on the Runway late Sunday afternoon where a portion of the runway was displaced by the exhaust from a departing flight.

The speedy and professional action of a joint response team made up of Airport Authority maintenance and the Ministry of Works ensured that disruption to regular traffic were kept at the absolute minimum.

Hats off to all who went above and beyond in ensuring that our airport operations were not unduly affected by the disruption.

Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Officials now in Berlin, Germany for the tourism trade fair ‘ITB’ are in a celebratory mood as day one of ITB was met with positive news as Condor announced its return to the destination with a weekly service starting November 5, 2024 until May 6, 2025 from Frankfurt.

Colin C. James, Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), during Antigua and Barbuda’s on-stand press conference held for the announcement stated, "We are excited about the resumption of the direct service from Condor next winter season. The German speaking market is our second most important European market, with the flight acting as a major gateway creating access from central Europe to Antigua.”

“We appreciate the efforts of the partners with us at ITB: Elite Island Resorts, Royalton and Caribbean Beach Cottage that as a whole represent 10 properties in Antigua as well as our sailing fraternity KH+P and Sailing Classics. Through a collaborated effort and strong partnerships, we will make the flight a success and increase visitor numbers. Additionally, we are delighted that the service will end after Sailing Week which provides a seamless departure for our European sailors”, added James.

Tourism Officials expect that this new longer flight schedule which now covers Sailing Week will ensure more German participation in the signature yachting event.

The brand new A330-900 aircraft will have a total of 27 rotations tagged with Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The configuration of the aircraft can hold a total of 310 passengers with 30 business class seats and 64 premium economy seats, ideal for Antigua and Barbuda’s target audience.

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority will be planning immediate robust sales and marketing activities to educate the trade and further build awareness of the flight.

A workshop will take place on Tuesday 19 March 2024, for Antigua and Barbuda’s on-island partners to learn more about how they can capitalise on this opportunity to diversify. For more information on the workshop contact the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority on 562-7600.

The Condor Flight to Antigua can be booked from March 7.

𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞!!!

When Antigua and Barbuda took the bold decision to reopen its doors during the pandemic, an Antiguan Pilot was in the flight deck of the American Airlines flight that inspired a nation and the entire Caribbean.

At that time, Brian Bizzle Chase, was a First Officer on the American Airlines flight that landed at the VC Bird International Airpoirt in June 2020, signalling to the region and to the world that we are open for business during a challenging period.

Four years later, and with numerous flights logged, he returned to the land of his birth as the first Antiguan to captain an American Airlines Boeing 737 to land in Antigua and Barbuda.

From all of us here at the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority and throughout the aviation industry, heartiest congratulations Captain Chase on your promotion to the left seat.

A matter of perspective.

We've often admired beautiful Montserrat from the southern coastline of Antigua on the clear days that our tightly knit islands share.

But how many have ever visited and gotten the chance to see our gently rolling landscape from the shoreline of our neighbor island.

LIAT 1974 is no more leaving behind an impressive period of Caribbean aviation. The VC Bird International Airport is indeed proud to be a part of that history and today's farewell.
