THE ANGUILLA TOURIST BOARD ANNOUNCES TWO NEW APPOINTMENTS TO THEIR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Valley, Anguilla, October 30, 2024: The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) is pleased to announce two new appointments to the organization’s Board of Directors. Mrs. Melisha Maccow-Niles was appointed as the new Chairperson of the Board, and Ms. Calla Gumbs was designated as a new Board Member. Both appointments were made by the Hon. Haydn Hughes, Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Housing, Utilities and Tourism for Anguilla.

Mrs. Maccow-Niles succeeds former Chairman Kenroy Herbert, who completed his term of office September 30, 2024, and returned to the private sector. Chairperson Maccow-Niles will lead the six-member Board in overseeing global operations of the ATB across all source markets.

“Mrs. Melisha Maccow-Niles is the ideal candidate for Chairperson, based on her years of service on the ATB Board of Directors and her extensive private sector tourism experience,” declared Minister Hughes. “She is a proven leader, adept at building consensus, optimizing operational costs, and she has a clear vision for the industry. She will oversee the expansion of our source markets and drive the marketing innovations that will secure the future of our industry. I am also pleased to welcome Ms. Calla Gumbs as the newest member of the ATB Board.”

Mrs. Maccow-Niles is a dynamic and skilled business owner who has served on the ATB’s Board of Directors since June 2020. She is the owner and founder of Exclusive Events Wedding Planning Services and the co-owner and founder of the popular Juice Bar Anguilla in South Hill.

Her extensive tourism experience dates back to 2001, when she assumed her first position in the Accounts Department at the Frangipani Beach Club. She went on to work at the Malliouhana Hotel and Cap Juluca in their Guest Services divisions, followed by a four-year stint in Front Office Management at the Viceroy Hotel. She continued working at the resort for another four years, through its transition to the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla, as Resort Assistant Manager and then Conference Services Manager & Wedding Specialist. She joined the team at the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club as Front of House Manager in January 2021.

Ms. Calla Gumbs is a strategic Human Resource Professional who brings a wealth of experience to her new position. She currently serves as Director of People and Culture at the Four Seasons Resort & Residences Anguilla. As Division Head, she oversees every aspect of the People and Culture function, including benefits administration, employee relations, recruitment and selection, relocation and immigration, employee communications, performance management, talent and career development, workers’ compensation and legal matters related to the Resort’s employees.

The Anguilla Tourist Board of Directors is responsible for strategically managing Anguilla’s promotional, sales and marketing initiatives both on island and overseas, to expand tourism arrivals while optimizing the industry’s benefits for Anguilla’s residents.

ANGUILLA SHOWCASES DESTINATION PRODUCT TO LUXURY TRAVEL PARTNERS AT 2024 ILTM NORTH AMERICA

The Valley, Anguilla, October 18, 2024: Mrs. Chantelle Richardson, Deputy Director of Tourism, Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB), and US Sales Representative, Vivian Chambers of The Muse Collection, represented Anguilla at the prestigious International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) North America from September 23-26, 2024 at the Baha Mar Resort in The Bahamas.

“ILTM North America is a perfect opportunity to position Anguilla as a luxury destination to leading advisors from our key source market, North America,” stated Deputy Director of Tourism, Mrs. Chantelle Richardson. “It has proven to be a successful tradeshow for us, with extensive opportunities for one-on-one meetings with luxury travel professionals, with whom we shared in-depth information and current updates about destination Anguilla. The various networking platforms also allow us to gain first-hand knowledge of upcoming bookings, travel trends and patterns. Our participation this year promises to yield a higher percentage of advance bookings, and new visitors that align with Anguilla’s niche offerings.”

More than 28,000 one-on-one pre-scheduled appointments took place during the three-day event, with dinners and networking events held across Baha Mar throughout the week. A selection of North America’s most influential editors and writers were also in attendance, which provided additional public relations coverage for the destination. The curated events impressed advisors and exhibitors, both those attending an ILTM event for the first time as well as returning delegates.

The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) representatives conducted over 65 meetings with advisors representing Altour, Avenue Two, American Express Travel, Brownwell, Departure Lounge, Direct Travel, Embark Beyond, Gifted Travel Network, Frosch, First In Service, McCabe World Travel, Protravel and Tour Operators including Ultimate Jet Vacations and Classic Vacations. The representatives also engaged with the hosted journalists present over networking lunches and dinners. The Deputy Director and US Sales Representative acknowledged the invaluable support and partnerships of our trade affiliates in selling Anguilla as a premier destination. Information was shared about the many options of getting to Anguilla, as easy access to the destination is an essential driver of the robust demand for Anguilla. Deputy Director Richardson provided highlights on tourism investments, such as the development of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, the flagship Marina, Yacht Club and Luxury Resort at Altamer, Ani Private Resorts, and the Savannah Bay Marina and Resort.

The ATB team was joined by representatives from Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club; Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel; Little Harbour Estates; and Zemi Beach House, LXR Hotels & Resorts. Capitalizing on their presence, the ATB along with their industry partners hosted two dinners for approximately 30 leading travel advisors.

Friday, Oct. 4, 2024 - Toronto, ON - The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) made an exciting return to the Canadian market this week, meeting with travel trade industry representatives and media. Stacey Liburd, Anguilla’s Director of Tourism, and Kohn Richardson, Co-ordinator of International Markets, visited Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City where Director Liburd delivered an informative briefing and update highlighting the incredibly positive momentum Anguilla’s tourism industry is enjoying and announcing several compelling developments for 2025 and beyond.

In her remarks, Mrs. Liburd shared record-breaking arrival numbers, revealing that Anguilla had welcomed 98,052 visitors to the island from January through May 2024, of which 57,165 were stayovers. The increase in visitor arrivals for this period was positively impacted by the arrivals from both types of visitors; stay-overs and day-trippers. The growth in arrivals continues to be led by the island’s two largest source markets, the United States and Canada.

Mrs. Liburd identified increased accessibility and robust airlift as key components of Anguilla’s 2024 success to date, with American Airlines adding a third weekly flight from Miami, expanded private charter options, and increased intra-regional airlift from the likes of Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Barth’s, and Antigua specifically contributing to making Anguilla more accessible than ever.
