Imagine a place beautiful like Anguilla but hilly, with a smaller population and not really geared toward tourism, but more so to their residents and to visiting boaters as a destination due to the many nearby islands and for their marina hub for boat maintenance and repairs. That’s #Carriacou in short but there’s more to it. Their culture is rich and apparent; residents take pride in their homes, yards, roads, cemeteries, schools, churches and businesses. The island’s last major hurricane was in 2004, and 20 years later they are suffering more devastation than has been seen since Hurricane Janet in 1955. Now Carriacou is nearly literally flattened as of July 1, 2024. 🇬🇩Have a look at our pictures over of years spent in Carriacou, then aftermath drone photography from the media of places forever gone or changed after the terrifying wrath of Hurricane Beryl. 🇬🇩With the majority homeless, no electric yet, no running water and major cleanup needed, they need as much help as possible. They’re exposed to elements. They need to rebuild almost everything and replace almost everything. Businesses and jobs are gone. 🇬🇩Tradition is grateful to those who have helped/are helping in making things better as quickly as possible for people in Carriacou – THANK YOU. We’ve vowed to continue to raise funds via tradition-sailing.com, make requests and will be doing leg work to get needs met there. We have a trusted network. Please continue to share the story of Hurricane Beryl in Carriacou, where they had the eye of the storm and thought their house made it, only to retreat for the back half which took everything they’ve worked their lives for. These people are loving, caring, hard-working people who do not ask for anything. PLEASE CONTINUE TO HELP US HELP THEM or reach out to any connections you may have to help them. Can Home Depot ship them some building supplies? Let’s do it! We must think outside of the box and not be afraid to ask for the sake
Happy Anguilla Day! 🧡🤍🩵 #TraditionSailingAnguilla #HappyAnguillaDay #Anguilla
Here’s a glimpse into the Friday night’s Saveurs des Caraibes artisinal market that was set up along the harbor in Gustavia, St. Barth where Tradition was anchored alongside her fellow wooden Caribbean sailing vessels for the annual West Indies Regatta, held April 26 - 28. The artisanal market had a circus troupe who were entertaining throughout Friday evening to both adults and children. The tented, open-air market sold goods from around the Caribbean and over last weekend, a table of items from Anguilla. Tradition arrived to the market with chocolate and salt from Anguilla Sands And Salts Oasis, artwork from Lynne Bernbaum Art, hand-sewn totes, wristlets and wine bags by Honey Butter and Cream, flavored rums from Glo’s Rums and books from artist/author Jo-Anne Mason and author Trudy Nixon of TRUE Anguilla. The Anguilla table also sold Tradition Sailing shirts and the Anguilla Tourism Board provided literature, pens, pencils and bags and notepads. In case you’re wondering, the hit seller on Friday night was Anguilla Sands & Salts espresso dark chocolate bars. This is just the first look into the fantastic weekend affair in St. Barth centered around the wooden sailing boats and the preservation of the craft. Check back for scenes from the Saturday and Sunday raft-ups and sailing days with Captain Thomas at the helm, the Saturday and Sunday night market events and some sight-seeing of our neighboring, hospitable and beautiful host island of St. Barth. Thank you to the Anguilla vendors for allowing us to sell their items at the market to represent Anguilla. #TraditionSailingAnguilla #WestIndiesRegatta #StBarth #Anguilla

There are more brown boobies where Tradition and guests are headed today… The destination of Prickly Pear is an uninhabited offshore cay of Anguilla that is classified as wildlands as well as a marine protected area. There are many opportunities for encounters with nature during this full day excursion complete with a lobster lunch, drinks, dessert, snorkeling, and time to enjoy the beach and explore the cay. Taking reservations for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. ❤️⛵️🦞🍹🤿#TraditionSailingAnguilla #adventureawaits #sailing #Anguilla

Welcome aboard the often recommended Tradition Sunset Sail! Each one is different and fabulous. We resume this November on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - advance reservations are a must, especially in the winter months. Our Captains and crew are looking forward to enjoying a peaceful good time with you, sailing on the sea. ❤️⛵️#TraditionSailingAnguilla #adventureawaits#sailing#Anguilla
Here’s more behind-the-scenes and a side of Tradition you won’t see (unless you dive under her when we’re moored or anchored at Little Bay or Prickly Pear)! 😉 But what’s he doing? He’s grinding off the old bottom paint (the blue), as well as grinding the primer off the rudder bracket and propeller. This allows us the see what’s below from the exterior just to have a closer look. It also gets Tradition ready for her new coat of paint.
How about this connection… Tradition was built in Carriacou (home to Kayaks) but lives and works in Anguilla (home to Anguillians). Apropo, the guy here doing this job is both, he’s a Kayak Anguillian. We have many hands working on Tradition at once this trip and the origins of us all go back to places with a heritage of wooden boatbuilding by way of Canada, Anguilla and Carriacou. ❤️⛵️

Sharing in our slooplife adventures… One of our crew members from Tradition’s sailing journey from Anguilla south to Carriacou this August returned home to Anguilla recently via Caribbean Airlines and had the good fortune of flying north over the island of St. Vincent on a day when the volcano called La Soufrière’s typical cloud cover parted for an excellent view of the crater at the top.
La Soufrière is St. Vincent & The Grenadines highest peak and it’s had five explosive eruptions since recording began in 1718. The most recent eruption was April 2021, where the ash plume reached 26,000 feet. Here from 16,000 feet you can see where some green vegetation has returned but also where grey begins toward the north and where lava flows were. When Tradition’s crew motored past to the west of La Soufrière on the way to Carriacou this late August, at night, and with very little wind, some warmer pockets of air and the scent of sulphur could be felt and smelled on deck.
You’re welcome nature lovers! ❤️

Sailing Tradition Sailing Charters and rock jumping at Kittle Bay, Anguilla
He sailed with us during his honeymoon trip, was afraid of heights, had no assistance getting up the rock and splash... 💦 Very little hesitation for a guy afraid of heights! We think maybe he hesitated a little less than @kingjames famous and powerful jump 😂 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DqCRqJxCS5w What do you think?
It’s brave either way and always nice to see people face their fears. ❤️👏
