Goodmorning!

We are often asked how far away we are from the sea!
So, the closest beach is just 500 m away from our hotel! 10 minutes walking will get you to the wonderful beach right in front of the 3 islands (3 ishujt)!

Once you are there, you can also take a boat or a sea bike to visit the island of your preference (fun fact: they are all amazing)! You can even swim towards the one seen on the photo, as it is very close to the beach!

On your way to the sea you pass in front of many stores where you can buy all the necessary equipment, like sunscreen, hats, etc and something to eat or dring! There are also plenty of beach bars and restaurants once you arrive!

Well well, it's time for some history! Who can answer what's in the picture??
Nobody??
Ok, no points taken, I'll give you the answer myself this time!

So, this is the ancient theatre of the Butrint National Park, built in the third century BC and located less than 5 klm away from Ksamil!

If it reminds you of greek antiquities, well, you are right, as the area used to belong to Greece back then and it was being called "Vouthroto".
The theater could accommodate thousands of spectators on its stone seats and it still does every July, when some of the performances of the Butrinti Summer Festival are being hosted there!

So, in case you have plans to visit Ksamil next summer, keep in mind that by choosing to do so in July, you can have some incredible cultural experience too during your vacation!

While in the area, don't miss the opportunity to visit Syri i Kaltër, or the Blue Eye as it is generally known!
It's one of these places you don't believe to be real!

Syri i Kaltër is the initial water source of the 25 km long Bistricë River, which ends at the Ionian Sea.

You van visit it not only by car (or taxi) but also by bus (from Gjirokastër). Don't forget to wear your comfortable shoes, though, as you'll need to walk about two kilometres to reach the actual source! There's also a small fee that you'll need to pay in order to cross the bridge that leads you there.

Well, I can assure you it totally worths it! Don't believe me, just try 😉

Here you can see one of the "Tre Ishujt"! You could go there easily, either by boat or by renting a sea bike or similar (there's plenty of options there)!
Well, in fact, it's in swimming distance, so there is also this possibility (never underestimate the power of the sea, try it only if you are confident that you can do it!)

🇬🇧 Some information about Ksamil - first things to know! (Translation in Italian, Albanian and Greek below)

🗾 Ksamil is a village located at the south part of Albania, at the south of the city of Sarandë, which belongs to Vlorë County, one of the 12 counties of the Republic of Albania. It is built on a narrow strip of land, between the strait of Corfu (Greece) and the lake of Butrint (Albania). It is the most popular destination in the Albania Riviera, a coastal resort included in the Guardian's “20 of the best bargain beach holidays for 2013”.

📸 Its main attractions are the beautiful beaches, the sandy as well as the stoney ones, the three nearby islands (within swimming distance) or “Tre Ishujt” as called in albanian and the Butrint National Park, which is an ancient Greek and later Roman city (known to greeks as “Vouthroto”), nowadays one of the most important archeological sites in Albania, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 and further a National Park in 2000. A site nearby that you should definitely visit during your vacation in Ksamil is the “Blue eye” or “Syri I Kaltër” as its albanian name is, a spring considered to be a natural phenomenon, as no one knows where it starts because nobody has managed to dive and reach its bottom! There will be more information in later posts about these attractions, as well as many more.

👓 Depending on what type of tourist you are, you have to choose carefully the period in which you’ll visit Ksamil. During the beginning and the end of the holiday season, this small paradise is the perfect place to relax, with its sandy beaches, crystal clear water, tasty fresh seafood and lush vegetation! During the months of July and especially August, on the other hand, the town is quite crowded, so this period is mostly recommended to those who enjoy beach bars and intense night entertainment during their vacation.

🗾 Ksamil è un villaggio situato nella parte meridionale dell'Albania, a sud della città di Saranda (Sarandë), che appartiene alla contea di Valona (Vlorë), una delle 12 contee della Repubblica d'Albania. È costruito su una stretta striscia di terra, tra lo stretto di Corfù (Grecia) e il lago di Butrinto (Albania). È la destinazione più popolare della riviera albanese, una località costiera inclusa nelle "20 migliori vacanze al mare economiche per il 2013" del Guardian.

📸 Le sue principali attrazioni sono le bellissime spiagge, sia sabbiose che sassose, le tre isole vicine (raggiungibili a nuoto) o “Tre Ishujt” come chiamato in albanese e il Parco Nazionale di Butrinto, antica città greca e poi romana, oggi uno dei siti archeologici più importanti dell'Albania, dichiarato Patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'UNESCO nel 1992 e inoltre Parco Nazionale nel 2000. 👓 A seconda del tipo di turista che sei, devi scegliere con cura il periodo in cui visiterai Ksamil. Durante l'inizio e la fine dell'estate, questo piccolo paradiso è il luogo perfetto per rilassarsi, con le sue spiagge sabbiose, l'acqua cristallina, il gustoso pesce fresco e la vegetazione lussureggiante! Durante i mesi di Luglio e soprattutto Agosto, invece, il paese è piuttosto affollato, quindi questo periodo è per lo più consigliato a chi durante le vacanze ama i bar sulla spiaggia e l'intenso divertimento notturno.

🗾 Ksamil është një fshat i vendosur në jug të Shqipërisë, në jug të qytetit të Sarandës, i cili i përket qarkut të Vlorës, një nga 12 qarqet e Republikës së Shqipërisë. Është ndërtuar në një rrip të ngushtë t**e, midis ngushticës së Korfuzit (Greqi) dhe liqenit të Butrintit. Është destinacioni më popullor në Rivierën Shqiptare, një vendpushim bregdetar i përfshirë në “20 nga pushimet më të mira të plazhit të volitshëm për 2013” të Guardian.

👓 Në varësi të llojit të turistit që jeni, duhet të zgjidhni me kujdes periudhën në të cilën do të vizitoni Ksamilin. Gjatë fillimit dhe mbarimit të sezonit të festave, kjo parajsë e vogël është vendi i përsosur për t'u çlodhur, me plazhet me rërë, ujin e kristaltë, ushqimet e shijshme të detit të freskëta dhe bimësinë e harlisur! 🗾 Το Εξαμίλι είναι ένα χωριό που βρίσκεται στο νότιο τμήμα της Αλβανίας, στα νότια της πόλης των Σαράντα (Sarandë), η οποία ανήκει στην επαρχία Αυλώνα (Vlorë), μία από τις 12 κομητείες της Δημοκρατίας της Αλβανίας. Είναι χτισμένο σε μια στενή λωρίδα γης, ανάμεσα στο στενό της Κέρκυρας και τη λίμνη του Βουθρωτού (Butrint). Είναι ο πιο δημοφιλής προορισμός στη Ριβιέρα της Αλβανίας, ένα παραθαλάσσιο θέρετρο που έχει συμπεριληφθεί στις «20 από τις καλύτερες ευκαιρίες για διακοπές στην παραλία για το 2013» του Guardian.

📸 Τα κύρια αξιοθέατά του είναι οι όμορφες παραλίες, τόσο με άμμο όσο και με βότσαλο, τα τρία κοντινά νησιά (σε απόσταση κολύμβησης) ή "Tre Ishujt" όπως λέγεται στα αλβανικά και το Εθνικό Πάρκο του Βουθρωτού (Butrint), που είναι μια αρχαία ελληνική και αργότερα ρωμαϊκή πόλη, σήμερα ένας από τους σημαντικότερους αρχαιολογικούς χώρους της Αλβανίας και ανακηρύχθηκε Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO το 1992 και στη συνέχεια Εθνικό Πάρκο το 2000. Ένας κοντινός προορισμός που πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να επισκεφτείτε κατά τις διακοπές σας στο Εξαμίλι είναι το «Μπλε μάτι» (Syri i Kaltër), μια πηγή που θεωρείται φυσικό φαινόμενο, καθώς κανείς δεν ξέρει από πού ξεκινάει διότι κανείς δεν έχει καταφέρει να βουτήξει τόσο βαθιά ώστε να φτάσει στον πάτο της! Θα υπάρξουν περισσότερες πληροφορίες σε επόμενες αναρτήσεις για αυτά τα αξιοθέατα, καθώς και για πολλά άλλα.

👓 Ανάλογα με το τι τύπος τουρίστα είστε, πρέπει να επιλέξετε προσεκτικά την περίοδο που θα επισκεφτείτε το Ksamil. Κατά την έναρξη και το τέλος της περιόδου των διακοπών, αυτός ο μικρός παράδεισος είναι το ιδανικό μέρος για να χαλαρώσετε, με τις αμμώδεις παραλίες, τα κρυστάλλινα νερά, τα πεντανόστιμα και ολόφρεσκα θαλασσινά και την πλούσια βλάστηση! Από τα μέσα Ιουλίου μέχρι και τα τέλη Αυγούστου, από την άλλη, η πόλη έχει αρκετό κόσμο, οπότε αυτή η περίοδος προτείνεται κυρίως σε όσους προτιμούν οργανωμένες παραλίες και έντονη νυχτερινή ζωή.
