The Areni-1 shoe is a 5,500-year-old leather shoe that was found in 2008 in excellent condition in the Areni-1 cave located in the Vayots Dzor province of Armenia. It is a one-piece leather-hide shoe, the oldest piece of leather footwear in the world known to contemporary researchers. The discovery was made by an international team led by Boris Gasparyan, an archaeologist from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (co-directors of the project are Ron Pinhasi from University College Cork in Ireland, and Gregory Areshian from UCLA)

Exclusive document signed by the Armenian King of Cilicia
date 10 April 1331 AD
Let us present an exceptional archival document compiled seven centuries ago, it is a decree written in Armenian in 1331, signed by the Armenian King of Cilicia Leon IV (reigned 1320-1341) on the establishment of a free trade zone with Europe.

By this decree, Leo IV granted special economic privileges to the merchants of Sicily ("Sicily") to organize trade on the right of free entry to all ports and cities of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Under the decree is the signature of Leon D in red ink. "King Levon of All Armenians".

The original document is kept in the El Archivo Ducal de Medinaceli in Sicily.

Կիլիկիայի Հայոց թագավորի ստորագրությամբ բացառիկ փաստաթուղթ

Ներկայացնենք յոթ դար առաջ կազմված մի բացառիկ արխիվային փաստաթուղթ՝ դա 1331 թվականին հայերենով գրված և Կիլիկիայի Հայոց թագավոր Լևոն Դ-ի (թագավորել է 1320-1341 թթ.) կողմից ստորագրված հրամանագիրն է՝ Եվրոպայի հետ ազատ առևտրի գոտի ստեղծելու վերաբերյալ:

Այս հրամանագրով Լևոն Դ-ի կողմից առևտուր կազմակերպելու հատուկ տնտեսական արտոնություններ էին տրվում Սիցիլիայի («Սծիլիանք») վաճառականներին՝ Կիլիկիայի Հայոց թագավորության բոլոր նավահանգիստներում ու քաղաքներում ազատ ելումուտի իրավունքով: Հրամանագրի ներքևում՝ կարմիր թանաքով Լևոն Դ-ի ստորագրությունն է. «Լեւոն Թագաւոր Ամենայն Հայոց»:
