Shativank
Founded in 929, a monastery complex 4-5 km away from the Shatin village in Vayots Dzor. The monastery is abandoned and bats live in the church. A place out of civilization and suits for Hikers and Off Road seekers . The place is dry, hot, but the area arranged for picnic, there are roofed pavilions.

Основанный в 929 году, монастырский комплекс, расположен в 4-5 км от села Шатин, Вайоц Дзорского региона Армении. Монастырь заброшен, в церкви живут летучие мыши. Место вдали от цивилизации и подходит для туристов и любителей бездорожья. Место сухое, жаркое, но площадка для пикника, есть навесы.
ВНИМАНИЕ - дорога средней сложности.

Ցախաց Քար վանական համալիր, կառուցվել է IX-X-րդ դդ․, և ներկայացնում է իրարից ~200 մ հեռավորությամբ կառույցների 2 խումբ՝ 2 առանձին եկեղեցի և իրար կից դասավորված մի շարք հոգևոր կառույցներ։ Հանդիսացել է կրոնական, գիտական ու կրթական խոշոր համալիր։ Ներդաշնակ է շրջապատող բնության հետ, վայր է ուր արժի այցելել։ Ճանապարհը արկածային է, գեղեցիկ բնապատկերներով։ Գլխավոր եկեղեցու մոտ՝ ուռենու տակ կահավորված է սեղան հարմար է պիկնիկի, կա խմելու ջուր։ Ճանապարհը կարելի է գտնել Նավիգատորով։

Tsakhats Kar monastic complex, built in the IX-X centuries, represents two groups of structures, 2 separate churches and a number of adjacent buildings at a distance of 200 m from each other. It was a famous religious, scientific and educational complex. It is in harmony with the surrounding nature, a place should visit. The road is adventurous, with beautiful landscapes. Near the main church, under the willow, a furnished table is for a picnic, exist drinking water. For direction use navigator.

Hnevank VII-XII cc․ Monastic complex located in Dzoraget gorge, on the right bank of the river, on the old and rough road (Н24) from Kurtan to Dzoragyugh village. A pleasant, adventurous, educational place for visiting, with wonderful nature and beautiful landscape. Off-road fans can drive up to Odzun village or by the old road of Dzoragyugh reach to the M3 highway.

Լոռի Բերդ բերդաքաղաք՝ X-րդ դարով թվագրվող ամրոց ՀՀ Լոռու մարզի Ստեփանավան քաղաքի մոտ։ Հեշտ հասանելի, բայց ոչ հաճախ այցելվող վայր։ Հիանալի բնություն, հիշարժան ժամանց, այցելության գերազանց ուղղություն համավարակի ավարտից հետո։

Lori Berd a fortress dating back to the X century near the town of Stepanavan, Lori region, RA. Easily accessible, but not often visited. Wonderful nature, memorable place, excellent direction of visit after the end of the pandemic.

Միստիկ հնավայր Արագածոտնի մարզում "Ամբերդ" հյուրանոցի մոտակա կիրճում։ Հնավայրում պահպանվել են ժայռափոր կառույց ու զոհասեղան։ Թե տեղացիք ու թէ պատմաբանները այն անվանում են ԶԻԶԻ ՔԱՐ (հայտնի ժաղովրդական երգի տեղանվամբ)։

A mystical ancient site in the gorge near the "Amberd" hotel in Aragatsotn province. A rock-cut structure and an sacrifice pedestal have been preserved in the ancient site. Locals and historians call it Z**I KAR (as in popular folk song).

Շուտով համավարակը կնահանջի, ու երկար ժամանակ փակված լինելուց հետո շատերի մոտ ցանկություն կառաջանա ճամփորդել։
Հաճախ հնչում է կարծիք, որ Հայաստանը փոքր է և այստեղ Գառնուց, Գեղարդից ու Խոր Վիրապից բացի այցելության համար այլ հետաքրքիր տեղեր չկան։

There is often an opinion that Armenia is small and there are no interesting places to visit here, except Garni, Geghard and Khor Virap.

Aragats > Apararan reservoir > Astvacnkal > Tsaghkavank

The trip goes along the (M-3, H-20) Yerevan-Aparan highway.
The first stopover is the Iron Age sacrificial pedestal located in a small canyon to the right side of the road taking to Amberd fortress and surrounded by a rock-cut settlement.
Next stopover is the shore of the artificial pond of Aparan, where besides natural beauties one can see 2 early Christian churches - St. Poghos-Petros built in the VII c. and St. Astvatsatsin built in the V c.
From Jrambar Town the off-road starts to the Astvatsenkal Monastery (V-XIII cc.), a unique example of Armenian medieval architecture, consisting of 2 churches built at different periods of Christianity and a narthex (1250 AD). The complex is situated on a hilltop, in a gorge, to the right of the Kasakh River.
The next and the last stopover is a rock-cut St. Varvara Monastery, located in cleft on the southern slope of Mount Ara. This sanctuary is famous for its legends connected with the curative properties of the water streaming through the stones. The area is reachable by SUVs, the off-road goes through a rural settlement, over the slopes of Mount Ara and through its cleft.
Route available from Apr. to Nov. Length ~120 km(75mi), duration ~7 hours. Difficulty level MEDIUM

Путь пролегает по трассе (M-3, H-20) Ереван-Апаран. Первым пунктом маршрута является
жертвенный пьедестал в небольшом ущелье горы Арагац, справа от дороги к крепости Амберд. Жертвенный пьедестал датируется железным веком и находится в окружении скальных жилищ.
Еще одна остановка ожидается на берегу живописного водохранилища Апаран, где возвышаются две церкви раннехристианского периода - Св. Погост-Петрос (VIIв) и Св. Аствацацин(Vв).
Следующий пункт путешествия расположен в живописном ущелье, на возвышенности у левого берега р. Касах. Грунтовая дорога от поселка Джрамбар ведет к уникальному образцу армянской средневековой архитектуры - Монастырю Аствацнкал. Комплекс состоит из двух церквей (V-XIIIвв.) и притвора(1250г.), построенных в разные эпохи. К последней точке поездки можно подъехать только на внедорожниках. По склону горы Ара дорога ведет к высеченной в скале Часовне Св. Варвары. С этим святилищем связаны сказания о лечебных свойствах воды, пробивающейся сквозь камни.

Shativank > Hors > Orbelyan’s Caravanseray

The trip goes along the Yerevan-Yeghegnadzor-Martuni (M-2, H-10, M-10) Route.
The tour adventures start from ~6 km (4mi) off-road to Shativank Monastery Complex, one of the most significant historical monuments of southern Armenia. Road goes through Shatin Village. Established in 929 and rebuilt in the XVII c., the complex is situated high in the mountains. The monastery is surrounded by defensive outer walls with towers. The complex also consists of dwelling rooms, refectory, khachkars and barns. The monastery served as a cultural and educational center.
Second part of the tour is Duke Chesar Orbelyan’s manor, built in the XII c. and situated in the center of Hors Village. The village is situated on the left bank of the eponymous river. The settlement and the monastery are mentioned in chronicles from ancient times.
The third part of the trip is Orbelian's Caravanserai, built in 1332 by Prince Chesar Orbelian to accommodate travelers. Located at the southern side of Vardenyats Mountain Pass at a height of 2410 m. a. s. l., Orbelian's Caravanserai is the best-preserved caravanserai in the entire country.
Tour available in May-Oct. Trips length ~320 km (200mi), duration ~14 hours. Difficulty level MEDIUM

Путь пролегает по трассе (M-2, H-10, M-10) Ереван-Ехегнадзор-Мартуни. Первым пунктом поездки и его приключенческая часть является 6км-ая грунтовая дорога по пересеченной горной местности к монастырю Шатыванк. Дорога проходит через с. Шатын. Основанный в 929 г. и перестроенный в XVII в. монастырь расположен высоко в горах и обведен стеной с башнями В комплекс также входили трапезная, хачкары, амбары. Монастырь являлся крупным культурно-образовательным центром региона. Далее по пути руины поместья герцога Чезара Орбеляна. Построенное в XII в. сооружение расположено в центре села Хорс, упоминавшийся историками ещё с давних пор и построенное на левом берегу одноименной реки.
Заключительная часть путешествия - построенный в 1332 г. принцем Чезаром Орбеляном, Орбеляновский караван-сарай. Расположенный на высоте 2410 м, в южной части Вардениацкого перевала, он служил пристанищем для торговых караванов, странников и путников.

Berdkunq > Hayravank > Sn. Khach

The trip goes along the Sevan’s shore (M-10 highway) up to Gavar City. The _rst stopover of the trip is Berdkunq village. The village was a transit point on the road between ancient cities. The medieval fortress was built on an ancient base, nearby by megalithic tombs. The fortress is located along the eastern edge of the village and is known as Ishkhanats Amrots or Berdkunk Fortress. Next stop is a mediavel monastery, Hayravanq, located just northeast of the village of Hayravank along the southwestern shore of Lake Sevan. The main church was built in the IXc. A small chapel was added in the X c., accessed from the southeastern corner of the church. A narthex was added to the older part of the complex between the XII-XIII cc. Complex is surrounded by numerous khachkars and gravestones that are part of a small cemetery. Trip’s third part goes through Gavar. The offroad starts after Gavar 13 km(8mi) up to St. Khach Mount, also known among locals as Eratmber. On the top is situated St. Khach Monastery (XII-XVII cc.), which was restored in1967. Tour available in May-Oct. Trip’s length ~240 km(150mi), duration ~9 hours. Difficulty level MEDIUM

Бердкунк > Айраванк > Св. Хач

Путь пролегает по трассе М-10 вдоль берега озера Севан до г. Гавар. Первым пунктом маршрута является населенный пункт Бердкунк, отмеченный историками как перевалочный пункт на пути между античными городами. Средневековая крепость построена по соседству с древним кладбищем. Крепость находится на краю деревни и у местных известна под именами Ишханац Амроц или Крепость Бердкунка. Далее по пути село Айраванк, где находится одноименный монастырь, расположенный на скалистом холме у южного берега озера. Церковь основана в IX в. постройкой купольной церкви, к которому с юго-востока в Xв. пристроили часовню. Позднее где-то между XII-XIII вв. был построен притвор. Комплекс окружают хачкары и малое кладбище. Третья часть поездки представляет 13км грунтовых дорог по пересеченной местности до пика горы Св. Хач, или как называют местные Ератмбер (Троица Высот). Приключенческая часть начинается с г. Гавар и идет по живописному ландшафту нетронутой природы. Маршрут с мая по октябрь. Расстояние ~240 км, время ~9ч. Уровень сложности СРЕДНИЙ

Aruch – Talin – Dashtadem

The trip goes along the M-1 Route. The first stopover is Aruch village that dates back to the 6th century. It was the winter camp of the royal army and consists of numerous historical monuments and khachkars. There is a medieval caravanserai (XIIIc.) in the proximity of Aruch. The most remarkable construction is St. Gregory Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Armenia, built in 666, situated in the center of village. In the VII c. the settlement used to be the residency of Grigor Mamikonyan, the ruler of Armenia. Not far from the main church is located a fortress (XI-XIIcc.).
The next stopover is the Cathedral at Talin, erected in the VII c. The cathedral is considered an innovative construction of its time. Talin's Katoghike Church sits central to the town cemetery and dominates the surrounding landscape. Near the main cathedral is situated the church of S. Astvatsatsin (IXc).
The last stopover of the tour is Dashtadem, a fortress of VII-XIX cc, which has soaked the cultures of different times, peoples and rulers. It has witnessed numerous battles and many times has changed hands. 2 km from the fortress remains of a caravanserai have preserved.
All seasons suitable journey. Trips length ~190 km (120mi), duration ~ 8 hours. Difficulty level LOW

Аруч – Талин – Даштадем

Путь пролегает по трассе Ереван-Гюмри (М-1). Первой остановкой поездки является с. Аруч., упоминаемое еще с VI в. как зимний лагерь царских войск. По дороге к селу находится каравансарай XIII в. В Аруче расположен один из самых больших соборов Армении - Собор Св. Григория, датируемый 666 г. Рядом расположен комплекс сооружений, который некогда был резиденцией правителя Армении Григора Мамиконяна и в который входят также средневековое кладбище и хачкары. Недалеко от собора находится крепость X-XII вв.
Следующий пункт - Талинский собор, который основан в VII в. и считается новаторским для своего времени. Талинский Кафедральный Собор доминирует на местности и находится в центре городского кладбища. Неподалеку находится церковь Сурб Аствацацин (Св. Богородица) (Х в.).
Последний пункт поездки крепость Даштадем, которая датируется VII-XIX вв. и за тысячелетия впитала культуру разных времен и правителей, была очевидцем многих сражений и многократно
переходила из рук в руки. В 2 км от Крепости находятся руины каравансарая.

Hnevank - Tormak - Lori Berd
Tour goes along the Yerevan-Vanadzor-Stepanavan (M3, H33) Route. The first point of the trip is Lori Berd Fortress (XI c.), a significant historical and cultural monument of northern Armenia. It is a huge complex consisting of medieval bath, church, castle ruins and medieval bridge in the Dzorget River canyon. The way to the next stop (Tormak (IV–V cc. AD)) goes through rural rough road up to Dendropark, a beautiful botanic garden, which is a good place for photos, coffee break and rest. The park can be visited depending of the time schedule. Tormak is an Early Christian church built on the foundation of a pagan temple. The last point of the tour is the medieval monastery complex of Hnevank (VII-XII cc). The monastery is situated on a hill within a gorge, at the confluence of the Dzoraget and Gargar Rivers. The monastery has a narthex and various service buildings scattered all over the site. It has been restored many times. Lately the collapsed dome of the main church has been restored. The vast gorge is appropriate for coffee break, photos, hiking and camping. All seasons suitable journey. Trips length~320 km (200mi), duration ~12 hours. Difficulty level LOW

Хневанк - Тормак - Лори Берд

Путь пролегает по трассе (M3, H33) Ереван-Ванадзор-Степанаван. Первым пунктом поездки является крепость XI в. Лори Берд, важнейший культурно-архитектурный памятник севера Армении. Огромный комплекс состоит из средневековой церкви, бани, замка, а в ущелье сохранился средневековый мост через реку Дзорагет. С села Гюлагарак грунтовая дорога ведет к Степанаванскому Дендропарку, отличному месту для фото- и видеосъемок, отдыха и прогулок. На полпути возвышается раннехристианская церковь Тормак (IV-V вв.), построенная на фундаменте языческого храма. Она является уникальным памятником культуры и главной целью поездки. Yerevan - Dilijan - Aghavnavank -Gosh Lake - Jukhtak Monastery-Yerevan

The trip goes along the Yerevan-Dilijan Route. The first stopover of the trip is Aghavnavank, a monastery of the XII c., built in the heart of Dilijan reservation. To the south of the main church have preserved the ruins of the habitable part. A comfortable picnic table is placed by the locals at the riverbank for holiday celebrations, barbeque and visitors. The next stopover is Goshavank Monastery Complex, a masterpiece of the medieval Armenian architecture, constructed in the XII - XIII cc. Not far from Goshavank there is the Lake Gosh situated in the thick oak forests of colorful Dilijan Region. But the main objective here is to enjoy the beauties of the small lake and the surrounding nature during the coffee break, picnic or promenade. The last but not least stopover of the trip is Jukhtak medieval Monastery (XI-XII cc.) situated in the vast forest of Dilijan National Park 3.2 km northwest of the town of Dilijan. The complex is composed of two separate churches. They are located at 50m from each other at different elevations. Medieval cemetery surrounds the church. The complex sits in close proximity to the church of Matosavank. The length of the two-way road makes 270 km, 22 km of which is rather obstructed. The total duration is 8-10 hours. The ultimate change of altitude makes 1020 m. The complication level is medium.

Ереван - Дилижан - Агавнаванк - Озеро Гош - Джухтакский монастырь - Ереван

Поездка проходит по маршруту Ереван-Дилижан-Ахавнаванк. Первая остановка в пути - Агавнаванк, монастырь XII в., построенный в самом центре Дилижанского Нац. Парка. Удобный стол для пикника установлен местными жителями на берегу реки для праздничных торжеств, пикников и посетителей. Следующая остановка - монастырь Гошаванк, шедевр средневековой армянской архитектуры, построенный в XII - XIII вв. Вблизи Гошаванка находится озеро Гош, расположенное в густых дубовых лесах красочной Тавушской области. Красочный вид небольшого озера и окружающая природа делают место идеальным для пикника, прогулок и перерыва на кофе. Последней остановкой поездки является монастырь Джухтак (XI-XII вв.), расположенный в густом лесу Дилижанского Нац. Парка в 3, 2 км от города Дилижан. Комплекс состоит из двух отдельных церквей. Они расположены в 50 м друг от друга на разных высотах. Средневековое кладбище окружает церковь. Комплекс находится в непосредственной близости от церкви Матосаванк. Yerevan - Smbataberd Fortress - Tsaghats Kar Mon - Hostun Medieval Settlement - Yerevan

The trip goes along the Yerevan-Yeghegnadzor-Shatin (M-2, H-10, M-10) Route. The tour starts with a steep climb through the colorful mountains of Vayots Dzor to the Smbataberd fortress, located upon the crest of a hill between the villages of Artabuynk and Yeghegis. Smbataberd was founded during the V c., but was better established and heavily fortiied during the IX-X cc. Smbataberd was built in a very advantageous position on the southern end of a ridge, guarded by steep cliffs on three of its sides. A rough road goes from Smbatabert directly to Tsaghats Kar, the second point of the trip. It is a monastic complex located between the villages of Yeghegis (6 km northeast) and Horbategh, 1 km from Smbataberd on the slop of a mountain range. Built in IX-Xcc., complex consists of two groups which are separated by a distance of 200 meters (656 feet). The western group is half-ruined. Final part of the tour is an abandoned medieval settlement of Hostun IX-XIIIcc., located close Shatin Village. The length of the two-way route makes 320 km, 38 km of which is rather obstructed. The total duration is 7- 8 hours. The ultimate change of altitude makes 850 m. Tour is available from May to October on dry weather. The complication level is high.
Ереван - Крепость Смбатаберд - Мон. Цахац Кар - Средневековое Поселение Хостун – Ереван

Маршрут пролегает по дороге Ереван-Ехегнадзор-Шатин (M-2, H-10, M-10) к провинции Вайоц Дзор. Тур начинается с крутого подъема по красочным горам Вайоц Дзора к крепости Смбатаберд, расположенной на вершине холма между деревнями Артабуйнк и Егегис. Смбатаберд был основан V в. и в течение IX-X вв. был перестроен и укреплен. Смбатаберд был построен в стратегически выгодном положении в южной части горного хребта и был защищённой крутыми скалами с трех сторон. Грунтовая дорога ведет от Смбатаберт прямо ко второму пункту поездки - к монастырю Цахац Кар. Монастырский комплекс расположен между деревнями Ехегис (6 км к северо-востоку) и Хорбатег, в 1 км от Смбатаберда на склоне горного хребта. Построенный в IX-Xcc., комплекс состоит из двух групп, находящихся в 200 метрах друг от друга. Западная группа полуразрушена. Завершающей частью тура является заброшенное средневековое поселение Хостун IX-XIII вв.,асположенное недалеко от деревни Шатин. Маршрут в две стороны составляет 240 км, 38 км из которых труднопроходимые. Продолжительность 7-8 часов. Максимальное изменение высоты составляет 850 м. Уровень сложности - сложный.

Yerevan - Tsaghkavank Chapel - Tegheniats Monastery - Bjni Fortress – Yerevan

The trip’s real adventures start from Nor Yerznka Village. The 􀏐irst stopover of the trip is St. Varvara or Tsaghkavank, a rock-cut chapel or shrine, located in cleft on the southern slope of Mount Ara. This sanctuary is famous for the legends connected with the curative properties of the water streaming through the stones. Sanctuary is on elevation of 2080m (6824ft) and sourrownded by a unique landscape. The next stop is the hard-to-reach ruined Teghenyats Monastery (V-XIV cc.) which is located in a forested part of the Tsaghkunyats mountain range, 2 km from Bujakan Village. Its makes a mixture of Early and Late Medieval architecture. Armenian chroniclers mentioned the complex as a religious and educational center. It consists of main domed church, narthex and refectory. Picturesque area is suitable for picnic, hiking, photo and video. The last stop is Bjni Fortress. The medieval fortress is located on a mesa in the center of Bjni. Battlements remain in relatively poor condition. There is also foundation of a church (V c.), water reservoir, underground gate. The length of the two-way road makes 160 km, 42 km of which is rather obstructed. The total duration is 7-8 hours. The ultimate change of altitude makes 1080 m. The complication level is medium.

Ереван - Часовня Цахкаванк - Монастырь Техеняц - Крепость Бжни - Ереван

Приключения начинаются с деревни Нор Ерзнка. Первая остановка - часовня Св. Варвара (Цахкаванк), высеченная в скале. Святыня расположена в расщелине на южном склоне горы Ара, на высоте 2080 м и окружена уникальным ландшафтом. Святилище славится легендами, связанными с целебными свойствами воды, протекающей через камни. Следующая остановка - труднодоступный разрушенный монастырь Тегеняц (V-XIV вв.), который расположен в лесной части горной цепи Цахкуняц, в 2 км от деревни Бужакан. Это смесь раннего и позднего средневековья. Армянские летописцы назвали комплекс религиозным и образовательным центром. Он состоит из главной купольной церкви, притвора и трапезной. Живописная местность подходит для пикников, походов, фото и видео. Последняя остановка - крепость Бжни. Средневековая крепость расположена на возвышенности в центре Бжни. Крепостные стены местами восстановлены, но в основном полуразрушены. Существует также основание церкви (V в.), водохранилище, подземные ворота. Маршрут в две стороны составляет 160 км, 42 км из которых труднопроходимые. Продолжительность 7-8 часов. Максимальное изменение высоты составляет 850 м. Уровень сложности - Средний
