Today, we welcome you to Rincon! 🇧🇶

Rincon is a place situated in the Northern part of the island. It is actually the oldest town of the Dutch Caribbean.

The location for the settlement of Rincon was chosen because it is surrounded by hills, thus unseeable from the ocean. This protected its early settlers from incoming pirates. 🏴‍☠️

Every year, Rincon hosts the biggest party on the island of Bonaire, namely Dia di Rincon. Dia di Rincon is celebrated on the 30th of April and is most definitely worth a visit.

Pelicans are plentiful around our pristine blue waters. The clarity of these waters helps the pelican spot its prey. When it spots a victim, the pelican dives into the water at a rapid pace. 🏎

These are the three best places to spot sea turtles on Bonaire! 🇧🇶🐢 1. 1000 Steps At the northern part of Kralendijk, along the tourist scenic drive, lies this gem of a beach. The name derives from the beautiful stone staircase that leads you to this beautiful piece of the island. 1000 steps is one of the most popular snorkeling and diving spots on Bonaire. Mainly because sea turtle sightings are fairly common in this area! 🪜 2. Andrea 1 & 2 This location is fairly closeby to 1000 steps, but it's totally different. Whereas 1000 steps is a little sandy, Andrea 1 and 2 have the most beautiful coral on the island. If you're lucky, you will be able to relax under one of the two palapas after spotting some beautiful sea turtles. 🪸 3. Salt Pier Sea Turtles really like to visit the pier where ships dock to load with salt! Getting in the water over here is easy, as there aren't many hurdles to overcome. Just seeing the pier while snorkeling is interesting in and of itself. Sometimes you will be able to spot divers while snorkeling, as they tend to dive closely to the poles of the pier. ⚓️ Pro tip: Try to visit one of these places just before sunset, as turtles will be more active then!

We found a Calabash! 🍏 This non-edible is a popular native to the island of Bonaire. The locals traditionally make syrup out of these green beauties. The syrup turns this fruit into a medicine that cures stomach ache. Other options are to make a delicious home-made soup with them, or turn the Calabash into some art work if you dry them out!
