Destination Treasure By The Sea Bonaire
Floating in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela and Columbia, the “ABC Islands” formed the group of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao with the island of Bonaire being the most remote in the region. Having a consistent tropical year round climate, Bonaire being quiet and tranquil is the ideal vacation spot where ever you are coming from. Here, in the Nethe

rlands Antilles, Dutch territory, the people speak “Papiamento” a lilting mixture of Spanish and Portuguese with expressive Dutch, African and English elements. Its culture, natural landscape and limestone formations give it a distinctive air. Just 24 miles long and 3-8 miles wide, it is one of the quietest islands. Noted for the winds which sweep across the island, life is lived on the beach and outdoors under the trees gazing as the crystal clear blue ocean shimmers. The allure and variety of Bonaire inspire the most pleasant form of wonderlust. A dreamy traveler could escape from their hectic life. Here the freedom loving wanderer can find peace, seek adventure, and renew love. Or simply enjoy the beauties of nature and the fresh air, undisturbed. The island offers something for the young and young at heart. The house was built to withstand summer heat and sun by allowing the trade winds flow and keep you comfortable. Vaulted ceilings and tiled floors throughout help keep it cool, airy and bright. Rather than air condition in the living room, it has sliding glass doors, gauze draperies and palm blades ceiling fans that freshen the air. In the bedrooms, the crisp coolness of the Ralph Lauren Reef Blue ceilings and white walls exuberate perfect harmony to inspire relaxation. The gel mattress cools you down and the bed linens invite you in. Local artist watercolor paintings express the love and appreciation of the sea. The bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning if you feel the trade winds aren’t cool enough during the summer nights, however, most people feel that having the natural island breeze gently caressing the skin is more pleasant. A superbly equipped kitchen with all clad cookware allows you to prepare delicious meals and enjoy dining in or al fresco. The patio offers places of shade and respite from the summers glare and provide a vantage point for viewing the sunlight flickering across the sea and the view of Klein. Let the purr of the nearby waves soothe your ears as you relax with a good book on the shaded cabanas and lounge chairs. Watching the seascape lets the imagination soon float away with the time. Days are spent outdoors - sun worshipping, swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, hiking, cave exploring, bird watching, bicycling, boating, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding, shopping and dining - all takes place beyond the residence. Off the road places that serve cold drinks and local food are very popular. Coral reefs are choreographed by psychedelic angelfish, turtles, barracudas, snappers, tarpon, eels, lobsters, crabs and octopus. Lucky spectators see rays, dolphins and whales. Most of the land and sea have been turned into a fiercely guarded nature preserve, and the turtles and flamingos live undisturbed. Throughout the year, visitors bicycle along the roads in nature with the iguanas, donkeys and goats. This is the ideal getaway for singles, couples or travel companions who prefer private and personal accommodations that reflects the Caribbean style over hotels and resorts. The beauties and idiosyncrasies of this island invite longer stays of this glorious simple life. Understandably, friends who fly in never wish to leave as they are just having the time of their lives as you should too! Su from Treasure By The Sea welcomes you to this island paradise.

Daan and Kate have already put many hours into training and have many more to go in the next five weeks. At the end of July, they will swim a full circle around Klein Bonaire (11 kilometers!) to raise $11,000 for two new research nets.

These research nets are key equipment for our ongoing research at the most important foraging area on Bonaire: Lac Bay. With all of its seagrass, Lac Bay is an important area for green sea turtles on Bonaire. Research from the last 20 years has shown that the large availability of food in the bay results in higher growth rates in comparison to the turtles on our west coast.

However, we are noticing a decline in growth rates. This can be caused by a number of factors like poor water quality, invasive seagrass, diseases or factors that we have not discovered yet. To continue to collect data, to monitor the factors of this decline, we need new research nets.

Please support our ‘11K for the turtles in Lac Bay’ by donating and/or by sharing our campaign with all of your family and friends here: https://gofund.me/99a426d9

You can also donate through our Dutch account: NL71 RABO 0313 2425 26. Please add '11K for Lac Bay' as description.

🌴🦜Parrots fly wild and free in Bonaire!🇧🇶 These vibrant beauties come to the mango and almond trees, and even the cactus, to feast on the fruit. 🥭 They are super social, always chatting with each other. Thanks to the strict protections against poaching, we’ve seen their population thrive! 💚💛❤️💙

This week one of our staff members was able to take some good photos of the adult female hawksbill turtle that has been swimming around Klein Bonaire. We were even able to read the tag that she has and found that she was tagged in 2004! She was captured in June of 2004 and June of 2006, both times on Klein Bonaire, and seen two years ago in the exact same spot.

We love to see that this hawskbill has been nesting on Klein Bonaire for the last 20 years and hopefully she will have some successful nests this season!

This morning, we had our first beach monitoring patrol on Klein Bonaire, and we are happy to let you know that we found our first nest! We think that this nest is laid by a hawksbill turtle, but we will only be able to confirm the species once the nest has hatched. We can not wait to see what this season will look like!

This first nest is also adopted by one of our amazing adopters from our Adopt-A-Nest program. Would you like to adopt one of our nests this season? Send an email to [email protected].
