CW Abroad is an Argentinean organization founded in 2011 by María Cristina Acuña, who holds a Licentiate degree in Tourism. She is a traveler who is passionate about cultural exchange and international experiences. All of us who are part of CW are travelers and international volunteers who have had the opportunity to experience living abroad and we know how frustrating it may be to organize a prog

ram in Latin America or Asia on one’s own, if one does not have local contacts and is not willing to pay a crazy price. The full name of CW Abroad is Connecting Worlds, and in a way it summarizes what our mission is: to connect people from all over the world with projects that make a difference in their communities. We are the meeting point between peoples from supposedly different worlds who are looking forward to making a positive impact while they travel on the local communities that host them. Here in Connecting Worlds we believe that the best experiences in life are those we can live first-hand, and many of them can be lived in our trips to places with cultures that are very different to ours. Traveling narrows the gap between peoples and helps us to widen our horizons, so that we can become more tolerant and empathetic with the world that surrounds us. Many of our participants are from 18 to 80 years old and come from different parts of the world. Up to now, we have received participants from 32 countries and many of them still stay in touch with the communities where they have completed their programs and they keep on working in volunteering projects

"Yes I have arrived ): I miss it so muchhhhhh already. My trip was so short.

Thanks so much! I will send you a review and a picture of my friend Kyle and I, who I actually became good friends with because of this program!

Connecting Worlds introduced me to the most amazing people and gave me the opportunity to do more than I ever imagined I would. Though my trip was a short 5 weeks, I was able to experience and learn so much in my stay and medical internship in Buenos Aires. Cristina was so friendly and reached out to me whenever I needed her. I can't wait to come back to this beautiful country and experience so much more one day soon. Muchas Gracias CW!! ❤️"

"I can't thank you and CW enough for the amazing situation you set me up with. My internship is very engaging and I am meeting and working with a very genuine and interesting group of co-workers at the office. Lilian has been an amazing host and has not hesitated with helping me figure out my direction around the city. Last weekend, I visited el Tigre with Irene, and it was an incredible experience. Thank you very much for connecting us because it has been very nice having a companion to travel with.  Gracias por todo!

"My time in Buenos Aires was way too short. Cristina was fantastic instantiating me with the programs, keeping me organized, arranging my homestay, making introductions, and she kept me on track. Euge is a good teacher at the VOS language school. She has deep interest in their students. Working with NGO. It was interesting and challenging. The children are precious. Some were quiet and reserved. Others were very active. They were always happy to see us. There were a few who could jump rope eighty times without missing. I would to go back and work with them for a longer period of time if my future schedule will permit me to do it.

I will never forget Georgina. She was a wonderful hostess of my homestay and a great cook. I'm sure that I gained weight while I was there.

Thanks to each of you, my stay in Argentina was fantastic."

Jessica from USA joined our Medical Shadowing program in Buenos Aires and share her experience with us:

"Hello future interns! If you are looking to gain more clinical experience while perfecting your Spanish, than this program is definitely for you! I am a pre-medical student at the University of Pittsburgh who decided to spend two weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina volunteering at a prestigious public Hospital. That decision was one of the best I have ever made. I worked in the departments of pediatrics and gynecology for the majority of my time. I got to shadow a variety of physicians in clinical scenarios, interact with patients, attend medical lectures, tour the medical school, and so much more in my short time abroad.

One of the best parts of my experience was building connections with the medical personnel in Argentina. I truly grew close to the staff and felt very comfortable around them. All of the physicians were very receptive to my questions and were willing to teach me a variety of things. We had discussions ranging from the human anatomy to the Argentinian healthcare system. Conversing with them everyday really improved my Spanish, especially my medical terminology. By the end of my two weeks I was able to better assist physicians by providing medical tools, supplies, and anything else they required.

While I wish that I could have extended my stay, I know I will be back! I am forever grateful to CW Abroad for giving me this invaluable experience! I am happy to recommend this program! Best of luck,"

"The team at CW Argentina were helpful from start to finish with the organisation of my final year medical elective in orthopaedics and plastic surgery. It was a privilege to be welcomed so warmly into the team of medics and health care professionals at the hospital, and an excellent opportunity to experience Argentinian culture and language. Pre-departure, my questions were answered via at least 2 Skype meetings, and I was given detailed information and advice about my upcoming placement. During my stay, CW Argentina regularly checked in via email and message to make sure I was doing okay, and I always felt well looked after. I am grateful for the opportunity to have lived with a host family, as this gave me an immersive experience of Argentinian family life as well as affording me my privacy and independence. My placement in the hospital was informative and eye-opening, and allowed me to cover both private and public hospitals and a range of specialties I'm interested in. During my stay I was able to travel around Argentina and nearby Uruguay, and CW Argentina helped me connect with other international students and volunteers in the city. I loved my experience and only wish I could have stayed longer."

"I wanted to start by apologizing on my delay on this email. Thank you for making my experience in BA a smooth process. Our communication before arriving and after arriving was effective. For example, the package sent via email was helpful. It helped me understand the transportation and culture in Argentina before my arrival.

When arriving my host family was very welcoming. I got to connect with them and build a relationship. If I was to ever travel to Argentina, I would feel comfortable contacting them and staying with the same host family. The orientation that was given to me the day after landing in BA was useful and helpful. They answered any questions I had and I got to meet other interns.

One of the women I met at orientation ended up interning at the same hospital as me. We both interned at  Hospital de clinicas Jose de San Martin. While there I worked with Doctor Javier  Mastropiero. I was able to gain a long-term relationship with Javier, where we still communicate long after I came back to America. We are planning to meet again in the summer when he comes to America for a conference. While being there I was able to watch surgeries, analyze X-rays, learn how to use surgical equipment, and interact with patients.

The best part of it all was that I was able to meet other doctors from other countries that worked at the hospital. For instance, two of the doctors that worked for Javier were from the Dominican Republic and live in the same neighborhood as my relatives. Besides personal interactions,  I got to learn about public health and explore my passion of one day becoming a doctor myself.

This was a life-changing, cultural experience for me. It was everything I have ever dreamt about, to be in a professional setting with professionals that share the same cultural background as me. Since this experience, I have been looking into graduate programs in Argentina to study after I finish my undergrad degree. Once again, thank you for making this happen for me."
