This shy and elusive bird is found in the bamboo thickets of southern South America. It is named for its long, thin tail, which can be up to two-thirds of its body length. Des Murs's Wiretails are insectivores, and they forage for food in the dense undergrowth. They are a challenging bird to see, but they are a rewarding find for any birdwatcher.
