A big part of the challenge to try to summit Aconcagua, is acclimatization.
This is achieved with a gradual ascent.
It is convenient to stay the 1st day in Mendoza City (800 meters above sea level), especially when you come from sea level.
2nd day, in the mountain villages near the entrance of the Park: at Uspallata (2039 masl), Penitentes (2580 masl) or Puente del Inca (2700 masl).

If you enter by Horcones Valley
3rd and 4th day at Confluencia (3390 masl) and get to Plaza de Mulas (4370 masl) on the 5th day

If you enter by Valley of Vacas
3rd day at Pampa de Leñas (2950 masl)
4th day at Casa de Piedra (3240 masl) and get to Plaza Argentina (4190 masl) on the 5th day

⚠ Why is it advisable to hire a mule service to take the personal equipment to the base camp?

Because when the trek to the approachal and base camps, is made with all the personal equipment on the back, the weight of the backpack doesn´t allow a good expansion of the rib cage, therefore there is no good breathing.

As height is gained, the air we breathe has lower partial pressure of oxygen and if breathing is not good, difficulty is added to the adaptation of the organism to this height hypoxia.

The consequence of the lack of adaptation to hypoxia, can trigger mountain sickness. That is why it is advisable to make the approaches, with the least possible weight in the backpack.
