This season the passage to South Georgia was a little bit more difficult than other season due to icebergs everywhere!
This makes it difficult because our crew needs to be even sharper than the isual but for our passengers it makes it double interesting and amazing.
Tomorrow they will try to land at 4:30 am to catch some good photography opportunities!

There are not enough words in the world to describe the immense beauty of this pristine place. Antarctica, the seventh continent is on the bucket list of many of us but to be able to visit it by sailboat is beyond all expectations.
We would like to start presenting our special guests that will be hosting the trip Beyond the Antarctic Circle from Feb 29th to March 14th 2024 with the @Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute on board the well-appointed Seaventurer.
Today we will be presenting Dafila Scott tt who has been resident artist at the Friends of SPRI.
Dafila is the granddaughter of Captain Robert Falcon Scott who contributed a lot to Antarctic Science and exploration and who’s contributions are still important for today’s work.
Our own Darrel had the privilege to travel with Dafila to Antarctica before and they came up with the concept of the art program on board for everybody to enjoy. Dafila will be joined by her brother Falcon Scott also an acclaimed artist and Antarctic Historian.
It will also be the first time sister and brother travel together to the White Continent.
Let’s hear Dafila’s invite to join this amazing trip.

Flight to Taylor Valley
The bit I like about my job doing the Environmental authorizations and permits is I get to go on the Recon flights . Like this one to McMurdo Dry Valleys
Getting to the Dry valleys
Our Ship Ortelius with very special thanks to everyone on the Bridge, battled our way south in McMurdo Sound to get with in Helicopter range of the Dry Valleys.
3 Weeks earlier we made an attempt and could not get with in 90 Nautical Miles of the coast .
As you can see we still made slow going in the first year sea ice .
Take note of the flag on the bow and the black low sky .
30 knots of wind and a low cloud base not good for helos
