Welcome to Dark Tourist Trips!

"Dark Tourism (also black tourism or grief tourism) has been defined as tourism involving travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy...The main attraction to Dark locations is their historical value rather than their associations with death and suffering"

Why is Dark Tourism Important?
- Learn about the past and try not to make it our futur

e. This is more important than ever in our particularly divisive political climate.
- A way to understand a culture/time in history and observe it with respect and an open-minded curiosity.
- Remind you of the important aspects of life, an opportunity to open up difficult conversations and to pay respect.
- Takes you out of your comfort zone and at the same time providing education. I want to remove the negative connections with Dark Tourism and focus more on the educational side and make Dark Tourism accessible for all. Dark Tourist Trips

ITINERARY SERVICE
We have our own Itinerary service on our website darktouristtrips.com where you can buy our exclusive Dark Tourist Trips Itineraries. These are designed for the independent traveller and offer ideas for short day trips and weekends if you want to explore the darker side of of cities in the U.K, Europe and U.S.A. About Me
My name is Sian, I'm a Languages and International Tourism Management University graduate from Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Sunderland. This was over 10 years ago so Dark Tourism wasn't as main stream or popular as it is now so I undertook a lot of my own research. I have a great passion for this niche subject. This page allows me to share my knowledge, enthusiasm and to get people to engage in a new or shared interest.

*Please send any events/photos/recommendation from your own Dark Tourist Trips and I can feature them on the page.

EVENT TODAY 18TH NOVEMBER-GLOUCESTER PRISON 👻

Alternative Christmas Market 🎄

"Dark tourism fans can experience all manner of oddities when Gloucester Prison is transformed into a bustling alternative market - with everything from gothic art and literature, crystal healers and taxidermy to new age, fantasy and folklore crafts.

More than 90 alternative traders – offering the best place to pick up a quirky Christmas gift – will take over the historic cells and corridors, creating an atmospheric and inclusive family-friendly spectacle on 18th November"

The event organiser says the 18+ content is in a secure/separate area of the prison so it is indeed a family event too. The event also gives acess to a lot of areas of the Prison so it links in with Dark Tourism and Prison tourism. It's like 2 events in one! Take a look if you are in the area today and send us some photos! 👻👍

🌟A member of our VIP Dark Tourist Trips Group David Scarsebrook recently shared his trip to the U.S. He had a guided tour of Camp Crystal Lake on Friday 13th. Then drove to Hell House LLC, dawn of the dead Mall, Blair Witch and then on to Georgetown for some Exorcist.

Sounds like a great, fun holiday! 👻👻

Not technically Dark Tourism but definitely a great building to check out in Windsor if you are in Windsor or the London area. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Windsor castle is also a must for history lovers and dark toursts. St. George's Chapel is a chapel and royal mausoleum at Windsor Castle that contains the bodies of Henry VI, Edward IV, Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, Charles I, Edward VII, and George V.

The Crooked House of Windsor is the oldest teahouse in England. Originally built in 1687, the building was reconstructed in 1718

'LITTLE EASE' THE TOWER OF LONDON 👻🗝️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

'Little Ease' was the most infamous prison cell, located beneath the White Tower, at The Tower of London.

The dark windowless cell was 3 ft 11"~ meaning that while an adult human could be placed inside, any occupant was prevented from standing, sitting or lying down.

The prisoner was forced to crouch in solitary confinement for days or even a week, before being released for interrogation and torture.

Ashgabat-Turkmenistan 👀

Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan, is drawing in curious tourists from across the globe to explore its hidden charms 👻

Please note: ⚠️ Getting a Visa to Turkmenistan is a bit tricky, but there's a very specific process, and it doesn't always work. In order to get a tourist visa to Turkmenistan you must be booked through a tour company that is registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dark Tourist Trips recommend you do your research before visiting this city.

Ashgabat, often referred to as "the city of the dead," is drawing visitors from across the globe to explore its hidden buildings.
