Mit den Kindern aus der Nachmittagsbetreuung der VS Zell-Pfarre haben wir in Zell-Pfarre die faszinierende Welt der Geologie erkundet – und was sollen wir sagen? Die Kids waren top motiviert, voller Neugier und hatten riesigen Spaß! 🤩 Für uns war es eine ebenso bereichernde Erfahrung, besonders beim Testen unserer mobilen Kinderausstellung, die wir im Rahmen des Interreg Danube GeoTour Plus entwickeln. 🛠️✨

Ein aufregender Schritt für unser Projekt und ein Erlebnis, das alle begeistert hat! 💡👏

💦 The Waterwise project is officially underway! Last week partners from 7 countries gathered in the breathtaking setting of Poschiavo, Switzerland, to kick off this exciting collaboration. 🌍

The meeting was filled with engaging discussions, valuable exchanges of ideas, and even a hands-on experience near one of the project’s pilot sites, where the team learned water sampling techniques. Exploring the Cambrena glacier and its stunning lake was an unforgettable bonus! ❄️

🌍 Interreg Danube GeoTour Plus– A Successful Project Partner Meeting in Kladovo! 🌊

From November 11. - 15. 2024, stakeholders, project partners, and geopark representatives gathered in the beautiful Danube area in the Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark in Kladovo, Serbia, for the second Project Partner Meeting of the Danube GeoTour Plus project.

✨ Event Highlights:
✅ Workshops on sustainable tourism, visitor management, and geopark development.
✅ Inspiring discussions on transnational storytelling and Geopark Experiences.
✅ A stunning field trip featuring a hike to Ploče and a boat ride along the Danube.
✅ Progress and overview of ongoing work in the project.

A special thanks to the project lead partner Natur- und Geopark Steirische Eisenwurzen for their leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the goals of this project and to our host Djerdap UNESCO Global Geopark for showing us their Serbian hospitality.

INVASIVE ALIEN SPECIES

As part of the EU HUMANITA Project, we gather information on Invasive Alien Species in our Geopark.
However, we need your help as Citizen Scientists to find and tag as many sites as possible. By now, we have successfully located over 4.000 locations in the Geopark Karavanke nature areas. With your help, we want to locate more...

Our main goal is to gather information about all non-native plant species that have invaded the habitats of native plants in our Geopark.

Simple instructions!🌟
All you have to do is send us an email ([email protected]) with the location (GPX location is appreciated), and the name of the species (eventually how big is the infected area or an approximate number of plants (one, ten, 25, 50, more than 50 plants)), photo of the plant if you have it and date of the observation. We thank you in advance.

Please look at the gallery for a description of the names of the plants we are looking for.
Information on other species not indigenous to our area is also desirable.
The project ends in 2026!

Einführungsseminar zum Geopark-Jahresthema „UNESCO Geopark – grünes Klassenzimmer“ 🌍🌿

Gestern haben wir im Koroški Pokrajinski Muzej erfolgreich ein Seminar mit Workshops durchgeführt! Die Teilnehmer lernten das geologische, natürliche und kulturelle Erbe des Karawanken UNESCO Global Geoparks sowie die Bergbaugeschichte ⛏️ kennen. Nach den Vorträgen besichtigten wir die Ausstellung des Geoparks Karawanken, und zum Abschluss nahmen die Teilnehmer an praktischen Bildungsworkshops teil, in denen sie ihre eigenen Souvenirs erstellten und das kulturelle und natürliche Erbe sowie die Welt der Mineralien erkundeten 💎🖌️.

Den Teilnehmern präsentierten wir auch kurz die Online-Plattform iNaturalist. iNaturalist ist eine Online-Plattform und App, die es ermöglicht, Naturbeobachtungen zu erfassen und zu teilen sowie bei der Bestimmung von Arten zu helfen, wodurch sie zur Erforschung der Biodiversität beiträgt.

Uvodni seminar v Geopark letno temo „UNESCO Geopark – zelena učilnica“ 🌍🌿

Včeraj smo v Koroški pokrajinski muzej uspešno izvedli seminar z delavnicami! Udeleženci so spoznavali geološko, naravno in kulturno dediščino Karavanke UNESCO Globalnega Geoparka ter zgodovino rudarjenja ⛏️. Po predavanjih smo si ogledali razstavo Geoparka Karavanke, za zaključek pa so udeleženci na praktičnih izobraževalnih delavnicah ustvarjali svoje spominke in raziskovali kulturno, naravno dediščino in svet mineralov 💎🖌️.
Udeležencem smo pripravili tudi kratko predstavitev spletne platforme iNaturalist. iNaturalist je spletna platforma in aplikacija, ki omogoča beleženje in deljenje opažanj narave ter pomaga pri identifikaciji vrst, s čimer prispeva k raziskovanju biodiverzitete.

4th International HUMANITA Project meeting
in Karawanken-Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark

From September 10th to 12th, 2024, we proudly hosted the fourth project meeting in the Karawanken-Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark (Austria/Slovenia).

The meeting took place at our visitor centre, Geo.Dom, located at the pilot site on Petzen/Peca Mountain. During the meeting, the Humanita project partners discussed and resolved various topics related to human versus nature conflicts, including the impact of tourism on protected areas. The discussions also focused on innovative methods for upcoming activities, progress made so far, and concrete plans and activities for the future to promote visitor-friendly approaches and nature conservation.

During the meeting, we also held a press conference and an introductory workshop to engage the public and stakeholders in observing invasive alien species in the Geopark through citizen science.
On the final day, we embarked on an excursion—a guided tour of Podzemlje Pece, including a bicycle trip through the tourist mine.
