GRIESER PLATZ
Grieser square revitalized
Gries, in German: rough sand - shallow, sandy shore.
The revitalization of Grieser Platz is understood as a spatial-atmospheric as well as temporal carrier for future challenges. Therefore, the complex challenge of a high-quality open space is perceived as a link between historical setting, rural environment, existing built structure, traffic space, movement space as well as ecological responsibility. The revitalization aims to provide a hybrid plaza space sequence with dynamic transitions and switching possibilities.
The classical perception of the square as a string of pedestal boundaries is replaced by inward and outward spatial frames of the first floor zone and extended with a greened threshold to the traffic space.

SLAB+
is an expandable seating design that redefines the traditional dogmas of Bèton Brut. Using new possibilities of advanced digital manufacturing technology slab+ transforms Béton Brut into a gently shaped object.
The defining element of modernist architecture, the "concrete slab", is transformed into a complex 3D shape, which has been made possible by modern 3D printing technology. Two identical slabs, each 55cm wide, 90cm long and 4cm thick - the dimensions of a conventional bench - serve as starting point for the furniture design. While the upper plate adapts to the flexible laissez-faire, the lower one acts as a static support. An act of symbiosis made possible by the interplay of modern fabrication methods. Digital tools meet analogue user behaviour. Sitting, leaning and supporting oneself on the armrest leads to a sequence of differently shaped upper slabs. Repetitive heights meet ergonomic principles and create an inviting seating furniture.
The form of the lower slab follows the lines of forces inside the structure. It is designed so that it optimally uses the physical properties of concrete in order to reduce consumption of material.
Like a "tailor-made suit" that is precisely matched to the dimensions of the body, the seating furniture - both as individual elements or combined to a lively mènage of seating components - demonstratively displays its formal simplicity. The interplay of necessity and comfort leads to this furniture series produced by the renowned Progress 3D Innovation company in Bressanone/ITA.
slab+ pushes the possibilities of Béton Brut further by using advanced digital manufacturing technology. The formal harshness and strict serialism is broken, but the character remains. The mutation to the Concrete Beau, the lovely concrete, is completed.

STRETCHED
A reinterpretation of local “Streckhöfe” typologies in Burgenland for a housing project
Villages and multilocal lifestyles have a friction-related impact on rural areas. Also in Burgenland near Trausdorf, where we are working on a culture-driven housing project. Dealing with what exists in the nearby built environment, helps to understand dynamics and (almost lost) local building cultures. Therefore, we investigated the Streckhöfe typology of the region to find elements, necessities and characteristics which can be translated into a contemporary living context.
The design outline of the row house project follows the stretched living space agglomeration along the as well stretched courtyards. This allows the ground floor area to be open and easily accessible from multiple entrances. A flexibility of space which was always the core of every Streckhof. Therefore, the “stretched court” was also able to occupy less soil, since the extension followed a linear and vertical volumetry. While the ground floor area hosts daily living functions, the upper floor
makes space for private rooms. A simple but convincing agglomeration which was entirely merged in our project. Finally, a stretched but contemporary adaptable living environment.

MAKE 4 ON 1
Terraforming, optimisation of ground floors and stacking of diverse apartment types emerged from the dismantled single-family house. The urban dense attitude of the project meets the current requirements of flexible floor plans, diverse options if individual living and meaningful space use.
