Mozart's fame after his death.
It happens that a composer dies, and this death is not the beginning of oblivion, but the beginning of a period of flourishing fame. This is exactly what happened to Mozart after his death: in the years that followed, the first biographies appeared all over Europe, and the composers of the time who looked to him as an example also found words of great admiration for him.

233th anniversary of the death of W.A. Mozart
W.A. Mozart died on 5 December 1791 after a short, severe illness of 15 days. His body was laid out in the house where he died. On the 6th of December it was consecrated in the Crucifix Chapel and then transferred to St Marx Cemetery. Mozart was buried in a shaft grave with up to five others. Today, a monument commemorates the great European composer.
On 10 December, the parts of his last work, the Requiem KV 626, were performed in a service at St Michael's Church. The service was organised by Emanuel Schickaneder, a friend and lodge brother of Wolfgang.

Mozart Village St. Gilgen
There is a wonderful museum in the so-called Mozart House that highlights the links between the Mozart family and St. Gilgen. Mozart's grandfather worked in this building, Mozart's mother was born here and his sister Nannerl lived here with her husband.
A short video, made on the occasion of the 300th birthday of Mozart's mother, shows why St. Gilgen is called Mozartdorf and how the history of this place is inextricably linked to that of Mozart.
