Day Trip to: the largest ice caves in the world - located in Wefen - accessiable by train or car. 1 hour drive from Zell - then a 30min easy but uphill walk, cable car ride 10mins then another 30min uphill walk to the cave entrance. 1 hour guided tour around the cave with an open flame lantern. Then repeat in reverse to get back down again. Take a ruck sack with a serveral additional layers, walking boots, gloves and a bobble hat - its about -5 degrees inside the cave!!!!! Its best to book online and arrive at 1pm have lunch at the top of the cable car and then head up to the cave as there will be less people around then.

Last night we went to the jausernstation in bad fusch for live music and a bbq! Great evening with excellent food. Every Tuesday until september at 6pm. It takes around 30 mins from zell by car or around an hour on an ebike. Take a jumper or jacket. The hut is also great for lunch and a hike.

www.facebook.com/jausenstationbadfusch - We drove up in the car - the road starts off as tarmac but turns into gravel so go slowly and just keep going (even when you think it doesnt look right), there is a car park at the top just after the little yellow church.

Located in the national park this little gem of a mountain resturant is surrounded by the most amazing scenery - the best part is the Kneipp (several shallow / very cold pools - great for a paddle after a hike or just on a hot day! Jonnie showed us how to do it properly and explained the health benefits. As a menopausal woman I can say it was brilliant!!

Water-stepping
If it is done the right way water-stepping stimulates the circulation and you will be less prone to colds. Walk through the Kneipp pool doing the so called “stork walk”, but no longer than 30-60 seconds.

Arm bath
Put both arms in the cold water for about 15-30 seconds; the arm bath has a refreshing and relaxing effect and is supposed to help with heart diseases.

After all of the water fun we had a brillant lunch all from locally scourced farms - HIGHLY RECCOMENDED DAY OUT

One of the most beautiful castles in Austria, the Hohenwerfen Fortress is more than 900 years old! It is where they filmed "Where Eagles Dare" but don't look for the cable car as that was added in later! It's an awsome half day trip with a fantastic bird of prey show! Sit up high on the grass though as you get a better view. The 3pm bird show is usually better & less crowded. Takes about 45 mins in the car to get there. For info look at
www.salzburg-burgen.at/en/hohenwerfen-castle There is a guided tour though the castle rooms with a phone which has different languages - the kids version is better than the adults one in my opinion. There is a nce resturant inside the building behind the snack bar (which is pretty naff & overpriced) so i'd go to that. Access is via a funicular railway (or you can walk up) there are alot of steps inside & the walk up is pretty steep, so I would ride up & walk down. Some weekends during the summer they do cool medieval displays! The website has lots of useful info & facebook .hohenwerfen

We now have a lovely relaxing area for our guests to sit, eat or have a BBQ! It is at the rear of the house. Please clean the BBQ & terrace area after use for other guests - thanks x
