This won’t affect our kayaking at the Southern entrance, but just a heads up to those of you who walk around the Reservoir regularly ☺️

Public access from the top half of the Shoreline Loop to the northern toilet at Happy Valley Reservoir Reserve will be temporarily closed from Monday 24 February for around three weeks, while SA Water undertakes planned drainage works.

For the safety of our people and members of the public, we ask all visitors to please observe signs while works are underway.

During this time, you can still access the other open access areas of the reserve.

Go to sawater.com.au for details on all reservoir reserves open around the state to enjoy, explore and preserve.

One of my fav places to kayak (when the water is calm) and explore the hidden caves and beaches along the coastline. I still love exploring the rock pools and finding crabs and sea urchins etc (still just a curious big kid!) plus you can camp right on the beach front too and wake up to the sparkling ocean right outside your tent! 😍

It’s looking like the wind may get the better of us today! If you are thinking of heading out for a paddle today we can possibly open between 11am and 1pm, but it’s going to be sitting just under 20km/hr which is out cut off, so it’ll only be suitable for our more experienced kayakers. I’m happy to open up if you give me a call on 0480496401.
Beginners would be best to wait until tomorrow morning when we’ll be open from 9am.

Did you know...? 💡Between 1938 and 1961, Mount Bold Reservoir wasn’t just storing water – it was also supplying its own electricity through a small hydro-electric plant. ⚡

While the plant no longer operates, Mount Bold still plays a vital role in supplying water to South Australians. 💧

26/01/2025

Due to hot, dry winds expected over 20km/hr resulting in a Total Fire Ban at Happy Valley, Wild Pack Kayaks and the Happy Valley Reservoir will be closed on Monday 27th January.

Enjoy your long weekend all! We hope to see you on the water soon!

Total Fire Bans have been declared for Monday 27 January 2025 in the following Fire Ban Districts:

Mid North - Extreme
Mount Lofty Ranges - Extreme
Riverland - Extreme
Murraylands - Extreme
Upper South East - Extreme
Lower South East - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.
In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council.
Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.
Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions.
