Wellbeing Week at Kildare has been filled with a variety of experiences. Students had opportunity to play games, enjoy karaoke, wear their tracksuits, relax with mindful movement, keep active through an oval run competition, and purchase 'Ignite' cookies, organised by our Student Leadership Team supporting Wellsprings for Women.

Held on R U OK? Day, we welcomed special guest speaker, Vicky Welgraven AM, a leader who advocates and empowers people, driving positive change across organisations and community works. Also mother to Khlyeesha, past College Captain, Vicky Welgraven AM spoke about her achievements, challenges, leadership and the importance of taking care of each other and being agents of positive change. We also acknowledged and congratulated our Kildare Mentors who volunteer to support others in the community showcasing gratitude and kind generosity of spirit.

We are reminded to lift each other up, that each one of us is unique and precious and that asking for help can be the bravest thing we can do in times of challenge.

Congratulations to the Kildare College Orchid Club for winning the Best School in the Orchids in Schools Award at the Royal Adelaide Show!

The Royal Adelaide Show competition is a premier event for our students, who have won a variety of awards over the past 10 years, also showcasing their orchid knowledge with live demonstrations of how to care for Orchids. We extend our gratitude to volunteer Les Nesbitt, who gives expert guidance each week in cultivating and managing orchids. Les is well known nationally and internationally for being an expert in the propagation and care of both native and exotic orchids. Well done to everyone!

'Ignite' our Student Leadership Team initiative supporting Wellsprings for Women, came to life in lantern form last week!

Our community created hundreds of lanterns that were turned into a collective artwork, representing the Wellsprings for Women Inc. logo. The lantern is a symbol that often represents light, guidance, and illumination, both literally and metaphorically. It can signify hope, knowledge, wisdom, or ignite a path forward through darkness.

We were delighted that Wellsprings for Women CEO, Dr Dalal Smiley, joined us to celebrate this fantastic initiative and share with us the incredible work this Australian Charity provides to women who are experiencing various challenges.

Our community can support this important cause by making a donation towards ‘Ignite’, helping Wellsprings for Women make a real difference in the lives of many.

Today is Safeguarding Sunday, coinciding with the end of National Child Protection Week, and is a time to reflect on how we can have powerful conversations to keep children and young people safe. "Every Conversation Matters", and recently our students created 'Belonging' mind maps to share what belonging means to them. As educators, we strive to foster this sense of belonging and a place where everyone feels safe and welcome.

Always a highlight of the College year; our annual Brigidine Day!

This special day is full of fun and fostering connections with each other. Beginning with Mass and followed by engaging activities and our very own K-Factor, a tradition enjoyed since 2008!

Our community also created lanterns as part of 'Ignite', a Student Leadership Team initiative supporting Wellsprings for Women, and engaged in a presentation by Dr Dalal Smiley, CEO of Wellsprings for Women. The lanterns created formed a beautiful collective artwork and we look forward to sharing the result with you next week!

More photos will be shared in our College Blog, released next week.

Creative Industries Week saw our students engage in hands-on activities!

Students created their own personalised ceramic magnets (Art), a piece of macrame jewellery (Metal Smithing and Jewellery Design), a propagation station (Woodwork), and experimented with Polaroids (Photography). We also did 'Chalk the Walk', decorating the College pathway, and enjoying a Colouring in Competition.

Congratulations to Franceska (Year 7) who had her beautiful artwork featured on the poster promoting the week.

As our Class of 2024 enter their final weeks of Term 3 and lead up to the end of year celebrations, our Year 7 students hand made affirmation cards with words of encouragement for our Year 12 students.

This beautiful gesture, combined with an inter-house, Year 7 and 12 tunnel ball challenge, and a feast of sweets made it a memorable time of connection for all.

National Science Week was celebrated last week at Kildare, culminating in our Year 12 students, Shamsieh, Pushti and Maddie participating in the South Australian Chemistry Titration Competition!

At Kildare, students engaged in activities that focused on 'Species Survival' including a scavenger hunt and whale snot analysis. At the titration competition, our students had to titrate potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) against sodium hydroxide to determine the number of moles of KHP in an unknown sample. Shamsieh received a gold award with only 0.2% error. Pushti received silver with an error of 1.2% and Maddie also received silver with an error of 1.5%.To receive a gold award students had to get under 1% error which indicates great accuracy in their technique. Congratulations!

A streak of success! Our incredible STEM students were high achievers once again at the STEM Making a Difference (MAD) State Showcase, in fact, they came first place for the second year in a row!

Held by Catholic Education South Australia at University of South Australia for 2024, the STEM MAD Competition is an annual celebration of excellence in STEM at Catholic Schools, empowering students to be critical and creative thinkers. All three Kildare College Year 8 and 9 student teams were successful in receiving a place to showcase their work at the event; with the Year 8 students winning first place and the Year 9 students coming third in the secondary years category; crowning them as South Australian Winners for the second consecutive year.

Year 8 students Amelie, Navya and Rui showcased a high level of innovation; being awarded First Place for their creation of a Micro-Filter Force, a device that successfully filters micro-plastics from water. The 5-month project involved comprehensive scientific research into ferrofluids and microplastics, and 3D modelling and prototype design. The students will soon compete in the national competition in Brisbane.

Congratulations to everyone involved for your incredible achievements! Read more here: https://www.kildare.catholic.edu.au/news-events/news?newsItem=46150
