A bit of history!!
Constantinople (Istanbul), the great cistern built under Emperor Justinian in the 6th century.
143 meters long and 70 meters wide, the Cistern provided water for the imperial palace and the other premium buildings of the historic center of Istanbul, at the time of Constantinople, with a tank of 80,000 cubic meters powered by an aqueduct that ran for several kilometers.
The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı or Yerebatan Sarayı, literally "submerged palace") is the largest underground cistern still preserved in Istanbul.
