Scuba in the Pub 14 January 2022 at Rob Roy Hotel. Marine Ecologist Janine Baker and citizen scientist SCUBA diver Steve Simmons will present, on recent results in the long-term Dragon Search citizen science program. Since 1996, the program has provided information about seadragon distribution, relative abundance, breeding, and potential threatening processes at various locations in SA. Since 2013, members of the South Australian diving community have been involved with a Dragon Search project to identify seadragons from their facial markings. Thanks to intermittent small community grants, and the long-term efforts of volunteer divers and marine photographers, a project to identify and monitor individual seadragons has been running at Rapid Bay for 9 years, and is now expanding to other parts of the State. This presentation will discuss some of the results since 2019 from a site on Yorke Peninsula. Janine will also discuss the Diving with Dragons Code of Conduct, which was developed by Dragon Search and partner organisations during the late 1990s and has recently been updated by Green Adelaide, in conjunction with the SDFSA and divers in SA. Long term diver and photographer Paul Macdonald will discuss (via video) photography tips, relating to sensitive diving and photography practices in the presence of seadragons. The updated Code of Conduct and photo tips materials produced recently by Green Adelaide recognise the increasing numbers of interactions between divers and these fragile creatures, and seek to promote awareness within the diving community. Great to hear from Reg and Helen Foster at Scuba in the Pub on Friday evening about the support they are providing to out of work dive guides and drivers in Bali - Bali Dive Guide Connect:
https://gofund.me/28f8966a
Reg and Helen have been sending money to out of work Dive Guides and Drivers etc in Bali for over 12 months. They have set up a small private charity called Bali Dive Guide Connect. This charity exists due to the Foster's input and donations from supporters. They have two locations in Bali, one in Denpasar and one in Amed. They are currently sending up to $200 a week and that feeds 14 families. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated by Reg and Helen and the families in Bali.

Thank you to Peter Cetra (Lesty) for his great presentation at Scuba in the Pub on Friday evening. Great work to set up a website so that divers and those interested in the marine environment can find more information and learn about our dive sites and marine creatures. HOW KIDS CAN LEARN ABOUT PROTECTING THE OCEAN...
Elizabeth Solich has published a new children’s book:
Aqua-Clare’s Ocean Adventures -- Cedric Finds Artificial Artifacts.

The world’s growing plastic problem is huge, and the challenge to bring about change is daunting. How can we inspire our children and bring awareness to this subject? With the aid of her friend Aqua-Clare, author, artist and photographer Elizabeth Solich has found a way by making connections with fun and interesting ocean characters. Elizabeth and Aqua-Clare introduce some of South Australia’s most iconic marine species -- all of which have a story to tell of the ocean’s unwanted artifacts.

Who wouldn’t want to help Cedric the Old Wife out and then hang around for more adventures with a sleepy Squid or Cyril the Seahorse? Aqua-Clare takes it all in her stride, as she goes on a scuba diving adventure to help her new-found friends remove rubbish from the ocean.

Through this story and adventure, Elizabeth brings two big worlds together to deliver one simple message about just what you can do to make a difference to the world around you and the often- unseen world of the Ocean.

The book can be purchased from the Oceanic Soiree website, at
