🔍 Skills in Demand (SID) Visa: A Game Changer for Skilled Migration
The SID Visa is the Subclass 482 visa’s replacement, designed to create a more flexible and targeted migration framework.
Here's what makes it revolutionary:
1. Enhanced Pathways to Permanent Residency (PR):
• SID visa holders gain access to the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream of the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS 186) visa.
• All periods of sponsored employment count toward meeting PR requirements.
2. Simplified Work Experience Requirements:
• Applicants need only 1 year of relevant full-time work experience (or equivalent) within the past 5 years. This is a significant reduction from the 2-year requirement under the TSS visa.
3. Salary Thresholds That Reflect Market Needs:
• Core Skills Income Threshold: AUD $73,150 (indexed annually).
• Specialist Skills Income Threshold: AUD $135,000 (indexed annually).
4. Two Targeted Streams:
• Core Skills Stream: Covers occupations listed on the CSOL.
• Specialist Skills Stream: Supports high-demand roles requiring advanced skills, with higher salary benchmarks.

📋 Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL): The New Standard
The CSOL replaces outdated and complex occupation lists with a single list of 456 occupations. It was developed based on extensive labor market analysis and industry consultations by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA).
Key Benefits of the CSOL:
• Temporary Migration Access: SID visa applicants can apply for occupations listed.
• Direct Entry PR Pathways: ENS (186) applicants benefit from CSOL-aligned eligibility.
• Employer Convenience: Simplifies the nomination process for businesses needing skilled professionals.

🛠️ Employer Sponsorship Obligations: Keeping it Simple Yet Effective
Employers sponsoring SID Visa holders must comply with the updated regulations, which include:
• Ensuring a genuine need for the nominated position.
• Demonstrating the financial capacity to employ the nominee for the visa duration.
• Meeting the relevant salary thresholds (Core Skills or Specialist Skills).
• Aligning with labor market mobility reforms introduced on 1 July 2024, as per the Migration Amendment (Work-Related Visa Conditions) Regulations 2024.

⚖️ For Current TSS Visa Holders:
If your occupation is not listed on the CSOL, you may:
• Retain PR eligibility via the TRT stream under ENS (186), subject to meeting other criteria.
• Leverage enhanced mobility provisions to secure new employment, apply for alternate visa pathways, or exit Australia if required.
🔹 Applications Submitted Before 7 December 2024:
These will be processed under the existing TSS visa rules.
🔹 Applications Submitted On or After 7 December 2024:
These will follow the new SID Visa regulations.
