Our Story

Solway Lass is one of Australia's most famous Tall Ships. Built in Martenshoek, Holland in 1902 and first registered in Hamburg Germany. Solway Lass was based in Sydney from 1985 until 1999, sailing around the Harbour twice a day. In 1999 Solway Lass was purchased by Australian Tall Ship Cruises of Airlie Beach and today Solway Lass is maintained to an excellent standard and provides amazing cruises of the Whitsunday Islands.

The large decks on Solway Lass provide our guests with plenty of room to move about and for those who would like a "Hands on" sailing trip, our guests are invited to join in hoisting the sails and having a turn sailing Solway Lass. Guests who prefer to just find their own deck space to sunbathe or relax in the bow netting and take in the magnificent views of the Whitsunday Islands will surely find some peace and quiet of their own. During down time, there’s stand-up-paddle boards and a rope swing for extra fun entertainment. One thing's for sure, people sailing on other vessels in the Whitsundays will be taking photos of Solway Lass as she sails by with square sails, jibs and mainsails set, with the stunning Whitsunday Islands as her backdrop!

The Whitsunday Islands are located off the coast from Airlie Beach in the centre of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The Whitsundays is blessed with having 74 Islands of which 66 are in their natural state with no buildings or resorts. This helps to make sailing around the Whitsundays on Solway Lass feel like a relative voyage of discovery, as the Whitsunday Islands still look like they did when Captain Cook's Tall Ship the Endeavour sailed by in the 1770's.
