Rain or shine, our dedicated team gets out there to do our bit to protect our patch! 🌧🪸
Through the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative, our team are conducting reef protection services at our local reefs, including surveying, stewardship activities, collecting and sharing data and the control of coral eating predators. This data helps the @gbrmarinepark gain a complete picture of what’s happening out on the Reef, and where. 😎
After recent rainfall, this data is critically important to help guide management actions, and act as an early warning call for any impacts which may result from these weather events. To learn more on how heavy rains impact the #GreatBarrierReef, check out @gbrmarinepark’s latest posts.
Thanks to our @Masterreefguides Jess and Scotty, and the team, for getting out there and doing their bit for the Reef! The Tourism Reef Protection Initiative is funded by the Reef Authority as part of the @ausgov’s Reef Protection Package 💙

"Hands down, one of the most epic days of our lives. Never before have we cried on a plane because of the sheer beauty of the world below us, but truly words cannot describe how incredible it is to see the Great Barrier Reef from the sky. From up there, you really get a sense that the reef is actually this wild, vast connected structure - living and growing. We saw sharks & dolphins & turtles from the sky too.
And what an amazing way to see the Whitsunday Islands themselves! While on board our pilot told us all about the history of the area - how it used to be a mountain range connected to the mainland before the sea levels rose, creating the islands we see today. And about how the original custodians of this land was a thriving, vibrant Indigenous community - whose Elders past, present, & emerging that we honor - which dates back to some of the earliest evidence of civilization on Earth. Hands down, this is a must-see-in-your-lifetime kinda place.
And then, after marveling at the reef and the iconic Whitehaven Beach from above, @oceanrafting jets you over there in the most thrilling, wildly fun boat ride of your life! Imagine a jet ski and a speed boat went to a party and had a baby - that’s your ride, and it’s unlike anything we’ve experienced before!
Throughout the day we never felt rushed. We had plenty of time to snorkel each reef, discovering so much colorful life below the surface. And then after a quick lookout hike, we got to explore the beach at a leisurely pace - taking photos, swimming, eating & drinking, jumping off the boat, walking the sandy shores, taking it allll in.
From the bottom of our gay adventurous hearts - we cannot recommend this experience enough! Put it at the top of your bucket list, stat! 💯🛩️🏝️🤿🐠🌊"
Many thanks to our friends at @wanderfulwives for their kind words, and epic video clip! 🤙
