Project Blueprint - looking after the Great Barrier Reef
Ocean Rafting is proud to partner to help protect our precious patch of the Great Barrier Reef! 💙
Project Blueprint is collaboration in action, bringing together researchers, tourism operators, Traditional Owners, industry partners and community for improved monitoring and engagement on Reef water quality.
This unique project not only improves our understanding of water quality within our Whitsunday Inshore Marine Zone, it also connects science, community and culture with the sharing of traditional Gia & Ngaro sea country knowledge, and educating Reef visitors about the importance of water quality to the health of the Great Barrier Reef!
Project Blueprint is funded by the Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership in collaboration with BHP Queensland Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation. The project was initially established thanks to funding through the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. Additional project contributors include the Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystems Research (TropWATER) at JCU: James Cook University, Australia, the Whitsunday Charter Boat Industry Association, and Reef Catchments. The project would not be possible without strong support from Ocean Rafting and our fellow tourism operators who provide regular passage to the Whitsundays.

Time to tick the bucket list ☑️
When we talk about the Great Barrier Reef, we’re talking about a Marine Park the size of the UK, Holland and Switzerland combined! While it may be tricky to see it all in a day (or a lifetime), the best way to experience our World Heritage wonder - is to get a little high! 🛩️
With 6 Scenic Flights departing daily, there’s plenty of options for you to soar over #WhitehavenBeach, #HillInlet and the #GreatBarrierReef.

Clean Up Australia Day
This Sunday is Clean Up Australia Day – so we’re heading out to clean up the Whitsundays! Want to join us?
At Ocean Rafting, we’re committed to doing our bit to protect our patch and keep our beaches clean. This Clean Up Australia – Sunday March 2nd – we’re inviting you to jump aboard as we head out to the Whitsunday Islands to remove marine debris and plastic pollution.
Marine debris and plastic pollution can end up on our beaches from local and international sources. It not only looks horrible, but can also have devastating impacts on local ecosystems and the animals which call them home. That’s why it’s up to all of us to each do our bit to help prevent waste ending up on our beaches, and help remove what does end up there.
Still reading? Ready to lend a hand?
Join us this Sunday and help us remove as much marine debris and plastic pollution as we can from our local beaches. Lunch is included (please advise any dietary requirements) and times will be confirmed to successful participants via email. Spots are strictly limited so get in quick!
To join, please email Jess at [email protected]. Successful folk will be notified via email and further details provided. Please note, this trip is subject to weather, and we will be monitoring the current forecasts closely.
This Clean Up Australia Day adventure is funded by our very own Tins 4 Fins initiative. Bottles and cans collected from our tours are recycled via Containers for Change, which helps fund Ocean Rafting’s environmental and stewardship activities.
